Chapter 36

Ma and Pa

After I got the bullet dug out from my shoulder, I sat up in the bed next to Grandma’s again. “You're never here for a good reason,” she laughed. I was just about to say something, but Da Ya, Ma, Pa, Mr. Qiu, and the rest of Ao Quan them, came in. “Gui!” ma exclaimed with teary eyes, “gui! Are you okay…?” I didn’t look up at her as I muttered under my breath, “Why do you care all of a sudden…” “How’d you know…?” I asked. Grandma flicked the TV on, “They’re airing what the surveillance camera caught.” “Gui,” ma went on, “dui bu qi.” She walked over to Grandma, and got on her knees, “dui bu qi…” She began to cry, and so did Grandma and me. Grandma pulled Ma up, and said, “Its okay. Don’t cry. We’re all together now. I forgive you.” Ma smiled, and tears continued to pour down her face. I’ve never seen her cry before…and now that she IS crying…I don’t know how to react to it…I don’t know how to feel… Ma walked over to me, and I looked the opposite direction, away from her… “Gui Gui,” she said, I knew she was still crying… “Gui Gui,” Ma said again, “I know I ruined you're life…I know I killed everyone important to you…I know I forced you to live in pain and misery…I know I was the cause of all your pain…” “If you know so much…” I replied as I began to cry, “why didn’t you help me? Why did you slam so many doors in my face? Why did you leave me alone in the dark…? WHY couldn’t you act like my mom??? You never comforted me when I needed you the most.” Ma shook her head, and began to cry. “The worst part is…” I went on, “when I lost Grandpa, Pa, and Jun Yin…I refused to believe it…I kept telling myself it was a dream. I told myself my mom loves me, and wouldn’t do this to me…Everything that happened…was a nightmare…I thought it was a dream…I kept telling myself ‘GUI! Wake up! STUPID! Don’t cry! It’s just a dream! WAKE UP!’ in the end…I had to face the fact…it was reality…” I wiped away some tears, and pulled my tears back. Ma didn’t say anything, and I continued to go on, “I refused to cry…knowing it was weakness in your eyes…” “Gui Gui,” Pa said as he walked over to Ma and me, “Gui Gui. Please forgive your mom…she broke into tears when she thought she had lost you.” Pa got on his knees, and tears rolled down my face. “Gui, forgive your mom, please. Even if you don’t forgive me…please…I beg you…forgive your mom.” I got up, and tried to pull Pa off his feet. When he refused to get up, I got on my knees with him. “Pa,” I said, “I forgive you, I never had anything against you.” Ma came over to us, and got on her knees. “Ma…” I sobbed, “dui bu qi.” She still cried as she said, “Gui Gui, I really love you. I never do realize anything until the last minute…please forgive me and all that I’ve done.” I hugged her, and said, “Ma, I forgive you. My whole life…I just wanted to know you cared about me…I wanted to mean something to you. I wanted to be SOMEONE in your life…” “Gui Gui,” she laughed as she still cried, “you ARE someone. You’re my daughter, my one and only daughter. I really am sorry for all I’ve done. From now on, I’ll support you in anything you’ve decided. I’ll be a better mom.” Pa smiled, “I’ll be a better step-dad.” I hugged them, as I began to cry tears of joy.”
“Gui Gui,” Ma and Pa began as they got up. “We’re going to leave you with some privacy, while we go wait in the waiting room,” Ma told me. I nodded, “Ok, xie xie ni.” They left, and Wang Zi was the first to speak up, “Well, that was weird…” Mr. Qiu elbowed him, and he laughed. “But seriously,” Wang Zi went on, “congrats on getting your family back.” I smiled, “Xie xie.” “I’ll drive you to school tomorrow,” Mr. Qiu said. “Wo?” me and Wang Zi both asked at the same time. “Both of you,” he answered. “Why?” I asked, “out of curiosity…” “There are a lot of reporters outside the hospital,” he began, “they’re all waiting for just ONE person.” “Ni?” I asked him. “Ni,” he answered. “Wo?” I asked as if I had just heard a joke, “you’re… KIDDING…right?” Wang Zi laughed, “Nope, its real.” “Aiyo…” I mumbled, “why?” Da Ya laughed, “After everything that just happened at the hospital, Gui Gui, you’re a HERO!” Then…I remembered…I shattered the key… “Gui Gui,” Mr. Qiu began, “I understand you shot the key…” “Dui bu qi,” I apologized quickly. “You shattered MY key,” Wang Zi mumbled. “Aiyo,” Mr. Qiu said to Wang Zi, “I already got you a new key.” Then Mr. Qiu held out something shiny in his hands. I looked up at it…a key. “What…? Why…?” I asked. “You're welcomed at my place, whenever you want,” he began, “my place is your place.” I continued to stare at the shiny object… I couldn’t POSSIBLY refuse his gift to me…so I accepted it from him. “Xie xie,” I thanked him. It looked just like the one I had received last time, but this one was shinier, brighter, and in the center, it carved out: Gui Gui.
“Xie xie ni,” I thanked him again. He nodded, “I have to go now. I need to go calm those reporters down, before they break into this hospital.” He laughed, and walked out.

“How’s your shoulder?” Aaron asked me. I smiled, “Oh…its getting better.” “NEVER stand in front of a bullet,” Aaron laughed, “its dangerous.” “I know that,” I answered, “I’m not stupid.” Wang Zi handed me a book. “What’s it for…?” I asked him. Wang Zi laughed, “You just said you weren’t stupid, figure it out.” “Wei!” I exclaimed as I tossed the book back to him, “I don’t need this book.” “Are you sure…?” Wang Zi asked, “we have that HUGE science test tomorrow, I think you should study. After all…you haven’t studied all evening.” I thought back…
*Flashback*
I walked over to the couch, and I was about to sit and study, but Wang Zi pulled me by my elbow. I fell on top of him, just as the curtains came crashing on where I WOULD'VE sat, if Wang Zi hadn't pulled me. “Wow,” I laughed, “that would've hurt.” I looked down, and my nose touched Wang Zi’s. He smiled at me, and I smiled back, just as the door swung opened.
*End of Flashback*
“Aiyo…” I muttered, and Wang Zi set the book next to me, on the bed. “I’ll be leaving now,” Wang Zi laughed, and Aaron and Ao Quan them got up, too. “Yea,” Aaron added, “its getting dark.” “Oh…” I began, “bye.” I waved them off as they left. “Are you okay!?” Tong Tong asked just as they left. “Is your shoulder getting better?!” Mei Mei questioned. “Yea,” I answered, “Yes. Everything’s okay.” “Gui Gui,” Da Ya began, “your shoulder better heal soon! The dance is coming up! Its on august 11th!” “Ooh!” Xiao Xun exclaimed, “Gui Gui! Who are you going to take with you?!” “Yea,” Apple laughed, “Wang Zi…or Aaron?” “Wo-“ I began, “Wei!” Da Ya! When are you going to tell Ao Quan you like him?” “Tomorrow,” Da Ya answered nervously. “Wei!” Xiao Jie cut in, “don’t try to change the subject!” “Wo…” I muttered, “…aiyo… OH! how are you guys going to get home!? Aaron and everyone else left!” “Oh!” ya tou exclaimed, and they ran out the door. Grandma laughed, “So…Gui Gui…tell me…who do you plan on taking to the dance with you…?” “I…” I began, “I’m going to study, ok? Ok!” I opened the book, just as Ma and Pa walked in. “Gui Gui,” Pa began, “its getting dark. We need to go home.” I nodded, “ok.” Ma and Pa were just about to leave, but I exclaimed, “OH! Ma, Pa, wait!” They turned back around, and looked at me, “Yea?” “Can-can,” I stuttered, “can i…get a hug…? I'm going to miss you guys overnight.” Ma and Pa both laughed, “Sure.” They came over to me, and I hugged them. “Oh,” Pa began as he pulled away, “someone paid for the hospital bills already.” “Oh…” I laughed, “Yea…Wang Zi paid for it the other day.” “He’s a nice guy,” Ma said, “its no wonder you like him.” “Yea…” I laughed, “OH! wait! How do you know?” “Pa laughed, “Gui Gui, you don’t even need to have a brain to see that you’re obviously in love with Wang Zi. You took a bullet for him, too.” “Not to mention,” Ma laughed, “you WERE his bodyguard.” “We knew all along,” Pa added, “but we didn’t want to tell you to quit. It seemed you were SO happy with him.” I smiled, “xie xie.”
