Chapter 5
Meeting the other five
I didn’t even to bother to see who it was that had grabbed my arm. I swung my free hand at the person. “Wei,” the person said. I turned around, and saw Wang Zi. One of his hands held onto my arm, the other held onto my wrist that I swung. “Why are you so violent?” he asked as he left go of my arm, and my wrist. Instead of answering, I glared at him (actually, I STARED at him...because he looked SO hot...). Then I pointed to his car and said, “YOU tried to RUN me over?! Who’s the violent one here!?” He laughed, and looked around; then he took me by my arm again, and dragged me off the street and onto the sidewalk. His car was still out in the middle of the street, and he STILL held onto my arm. “Uh...” I started, “you DO know that your car is STILL in the middle of the street...right?” “I have my advantages,” he replied. “Whatever,” I remarked, “I don’t really care, it IS your car...” Wang Zi ignored me and went on, “I just want my book. Is that too much to ask?” He finally let go of my arm. “Your book...?” I uttered. Wang Zi sighed, “I gave you the wrong book yesterday.” “So...” I began, “you have MY book...? And I have...YOURS?” “It doesn’t take all day to figure that out,” he remarked. I stuck my tongue out at him (in a mocking way), and reached into my bag and took out his book. As we switched books, his hands brushed against mine. My face turned all hot and red (but you wouldn’t notice, because it was SO cold), and my heart began to thump REAL fast. After we traded books, Wang Zi walked back to his car, and was about to open it, but I called out, “Wei! I'm going to be late for school! Can...you...take me to school...?” Wang Zi smiled, and then shook his head. He opened the car door, and tried to start his car engine...but it wouldn’t start. I grinned at his misery then I yelled out, “Sometimes you have our DISADVANTAGES too!” I walked off, and looked back at Wang Zi to see what he was doing. He got off the phone, and began to walk. I guess he had to walk to school too, so I waited for him to catch up. “Stupid car,” he swore under his breath. I laughed and pointed a finger at him (it was about ONE centimeter away from his nose). He pushed my finger away from him (sending static down to my toes), and he pulled out his sunglasses, and put them on. I STARED at him like he was crazy...because THERE he was...in his school uniform, his backpack, and sunglasses...not to mention he STILL looked hot! “What,” he asked as he leaned down SO close to me...he talked into my face, “never seen someone in sunglasses before?” I was PARALYZED...gosh...i didn’t want to move. I wanted him THIS close to me...but, I fought back against those urges, and pushed him away from my face. Then I shook my head, no. “Nope,” I answered, “not when its only 37 degrees outside.” He glared at me in his sunglasses. “If you’re going to glare at me,” I began, “you should take off your sunglasses next time. So I would actually KNOW that you’re GLARING at me.” “If you’re going to talk,” Wang Zi replied, “you should talk about something INTERESTING next time, so I don’t fall asleep in my sunglasses.” “Ok then,” I started, “alright...What's going on in YOUR life...?” Wang Zi and I continued to walk...but he didn’t answer me. “Haha,” I laughed in his face, “see? No one wants to talk about the past.” Wang Zi smiled at me in his sunglasses, “So you understand...?” I nodded and remarked, “Who wouldn’t...?” “EVERYONE,” he answered quickly, “all they talk about is the PAST or the FUTURE...” “That’s because the past...is what haunts the future. It makes the future. What it is...what it will become...all depends on the past.” Wang Zi turned to look at me. I went on, “its okay, I understand how you feel. I, too, don’t want to face the past. But...I believe that one of these days...you’ll have to talk about the past. Eventually, you’ll have to go back to the past. One of these days...” Wang Zi grabbed my wrist. “Zhi dao,” he uttered. I smiled at him, “No one can escape the past.”
We walked into the class, late. The whole class gasped when we walked in. The teacher merely glanced up at us, and smiled. Then she went back to her books. I walked to my seat as some of the girls gave me the ‘bitchy’ glare. Tong Tong them smiled at me. I got to my seat and sat down, and then Da Ya whispered, “Gui Gui... what happened...?” “Yea,” Xiao Man began, “what happened...?” I smiled, “I’ll tell you guys after class.” Xiao Xun them nodded, “Better not leave out anything.”
* * *
Ya Tou: HE got YOUR book...?
Tong Tong: you two walked to school-
Xiao Xun: TOGETHER!?
Da Ya: He...actually TALKED to you!?
Me: Yea.
Mei Mei: WOW.
Apple: Yea...wow...
Ya Tou: What’d you two talk about...?
Me: The past...the future...
Mei Mei: How awkward...
Xiao Jie: I know...
I opened my mouth to say something, but I got interrupted.
Guy 1: Hello...
Da Ya: hello...!
Guy 1: I'm Ao Quan.
Guy 2: I'm Ah Wei.
Guy 3: I'm Wei Lian.
Guy 4: Xiao Yu.
Guy 5: Xiao Jie.
Xiao Jie (Girl): Wei! How could you copy my name?!
Xiao Jie (Boy): Actually...YOU copied MY name.
Xiao Jie (G): Nuh uh.
Xiao Jie (B): Think about it...who’s older...?
Xiao Jie (G) got quiet, and Xiao Jie (B) laughed.
Ah Wei: [He pulled Xiao Jie (B)] stop being so mean.
Ya Tou: Yea, it’s only the first time we met.
Xiao Jie (G): I know. And I have a feeling I'm not going to like them...
Xiao Jie (B): No one said you HAD to like us.
Ao Quan: Aiyo, Xiao Jie!
Xiao Jie (BOTH): WHAT!?
Ao Quan: *points to Xiao Jie (B)* i...meant...THAT one.
Xiao Jie (B): Yea?
Ao Quan: If you don’t stop being so annoying, we’re leaving.
Xiao Jie (B): Ok, ok. I’ll be nice. (He turned to Xiao Jie) Dui bu qi.
Xiao Jie (G): You’re a REALLY bad liar.
Xiao Jie (B): *Sigh* (he turned back around to face Ao Quan them) I can't do it, its hard to be nice to someone you don’t like.
Xiao Jie (G) punched him from behind. “AH!” Xiao Jie (B) yelled, “OW! What was THAT for!?” “Aiyo,” I finally said, “PLEASE get to the point already.” “Yea,” Da Ya added, “Why’d you guys come here?” “Us?” Wei Lian asked. “We just wanted to introduce ourselves, and warn Gui Gui.”
