Chapter 2

Chapter 2

17 Years Later

The young seven year old Bosco had grown to become a well mannered mature young man. After experiencing the horrible nightmare of his past, he was never able to hear his own voice, even a squeak was hard to utter. But due to the advancements of technology, it was possible for Bosco to earn his voice back with effort, taking one step at a time. But for now Bosco was able to communicate with his hands, using the beautiful language of signing. After the long disappearance of Charmaine, he resides with Kenix and Leila. To him they are the closest thing to a family. Even after the brutal mistreatments received from Charmaine, Bosco still yearns to see her, believing that it must’ve all been a mistake that she regretted fully.

(Take note that during the parts of Bosco’s dialogue he is actually signing with his hands.)

The sharp blasts of a whistle were heard approaching closer and closer as it reached an old barber shop. A man in his mid forties was sitting by the counter mumbling his distaste of what happened in the news. He looked up as the young man entered the shop in his white tee and baggy jeans. A smile spread across the old man’s face.

“Good morning Bosco. Mmm the breakfast sure smells good this morning. Hope you left some for me.” His eyes twinkled with amusement.

“Of course Frankie sook, I get you breakfast everyday.” He signed quickly with his hands putting the steaming food on the table. “Where’s Kenix yee?” His eyes darted back and forth between the little shop, his eyes resting back at Frankie’s.

“Oh she’s probably buying groceries, you know women and their groceries, I don’t see the point of going to get them every single day, and I mean you three can’t even eat that much food for god’s sake. Also her horrendous shopping habits you know, it’s better to stay out of her way…” Before Frankie was able to finish his sentence he was cut off by a feminine voice.

“FRANKIE LAM you get over here right now and help me with the groceries!” She took a ear in her thumb and fore finger giving his ear a good twist. “And what did you say about my shopping habits? Well if it isn’t for all these fresh groceries do you think you’d be as fat as you are now?” He nodded his head in agreement to everything she said afraid that if he didn’t he would yet receive another punishment a painful one. Frankie and Kenix grabbed the groceries and headed up the stairs. “Oh yea Bosco, Leila’s classes are going to end soon, if you’re not busy make sure to pick her up alright? Frankie move faster! I knew I shouldn’t have let you stay over for dinner every night.”

Exiting the barber shop quickly, Bosco hopped on his bike and quickly rode to the university hoping that he hadn’t made Leila wait for too long. When he reached the entrance he was glad to see that she was only filing out of the building along with her group of friends. University of Hong Kong, he longed to attend University but because of his muteness he wasn’t able to carry out this plan. He is however content with working at the barber shop with Frankie. He looked up to see a familiar figure run towards him.

“Bosco gor gor, what took you so long?” She groaned as she fiddled to get her butt some space on the small seat of the bike.

“What do you mean, what took me so long? Sor mui you only exited the school like a minute ago.” He patted her head teasing her short height.

Leila pouted, her arms lightly crossed against her chest. “Just wait until I tell mom how you’re mistreating me.” She stuck her tongue out at him.

“Oh yea if you do that then I’m just not going to give you a lift home.” Not surrendering he stuck his tongue out at her as well.

After a few more minutes of bickering Leila had finally decided to give up, admitting defeat, she climbed onto the back of the bike, wrapping her arms around his waist for security.

Her face was along his broad back. She heard him blow a few sharp blasts on his whistle. Her nose flared as she soon realized what he had meant.

“No Bosco I’m not fat! You just suck at biking. Also its proven in medical records that for my height, my weight is perfectly normal!” He chuckled in silence.

“Leila you’re so heavy that you might break the bike since it won’t be able to hold up both of us!” He signed with his free hand.

She leaned in closer to him. “Well you know what Bosco? Too bad then, you’re stuck with me forever. You’ll have to take care of this fat Leila forever Bosco Wong.”

He just shook his head in amusement.
