Chapter 1

The Vulnerable

Charmaine was a very strong little girl that always believed on her own ability. She was very compassionate and sociable. A dream of Charmaine ever since she was a little girl was to become a doctor and save as many people as she could. During high-school, she was the most admired girl of her year level, not just because she was really pretty and most guys were after her, but also it was because she was smart and friendly. Everyone was her friend, and she never had an enemy before.
She would always work hard to achieve her goal and will never let anything stand in her way. Her parents had passed away during her important times of life, when she was taking her last exams in year 12. Not only did that discourage her for a long period of time, but it made her life more complex, because other than just focusing on her exams, she now has to worry about many more other things.

Charmaine not only had to take care of her 8 year old sister, Tavia, she also had to start earning money to pay off her first year of university bills, lets not forget about the water, electricity bills etc.). To solve these problems, Charmaine had both after-school jobs and weekend jobs which would keep her busy until she finished her doctor’s course in university.

During these difficult years, there was no-one to support her except for Tavia, who was already having difficulty going through her life. There were no relatives or close friends to help them out either, so they were on their own.
Now that she had finished school (at the age of 24) and had achieved the hard-earned doctor’s certificate, Charmaine was now able to apply for training at a hospital.
Kowloon hospital, one of the busiest hospitals in Hong Kong, was the hospital Charmaine chose to train in, as she liked to have challenges every now and then to keep up her knowledge.
