While Charmaine was standing in front of her room mirror applying cosmetics, Tavia came rushing into Charmaine’s room.
“What’s up with you?”
“Oh, phew, your still here,” Tavia paused to catch her breathe back again and continued talking, ”It’s nothing, I just wanted to say ‘GOOD LUCK’ on today’s first training class, and I will always be encouraging you forever!”
“Thanks Tavia…… I think you need a glass of water to help you catch your breathe.”
“Maybe I do.” Tavia walks towards the door of Charmaine’s room and turns back to Charmaine.
”Just wanted to repeat myself again, GOOD LUCK,” and she left walking towards the kitchen to fetch herself a glass of water.
Charmaine smiled blissfully, as she forever knew that she had a very supporting little sister always behind her cheerfully encouraging her.

At the entrance of the Kowloon Hospital, there were many doctors and nurses rushing from the hospital to the emergency ambulance, and the emergency ambulance to the hospital carrying an injured person on a stretcher. As Charmaine walked towards the reception to ask for directions to the training centre, she also tried to avoid getting in the way of the doctors. But that didn’t work at all. She got bumped onto the ground by 2 men with stretchers, who didn’t help her up. Instead there was another man who helped her up.
“Are you ok?” Charmaine did not pay much attention to the man and was paying more attention to whether her clothes had any dust or dirty objects on it. But when she looked at the man, she quickly replied,
“Oh, yes, thank you so much.”
“That’s ok, my name is Ron Ng, I’m one of the surgery doctors here, you can just call me Ron.”
“Nice to meet you Ron, my name is Charmaine Sheh, you can just call me Charmaine or Ah Sheh, I don’t really mind, I’m not really part of the hospital YET, but I’m attending training today though.”
“Really, I’m one of the trainers during the course and I’ll be teaching you about surgery, do you know how to get to the training centre?”
“Um… no, I was going to ask the reception ladies, but I got pushed over.”
“Well I’m not going yet, but I’ll give you directions.”
“Great, thanks heaps!”
“Firstly, you walk straight towards that corridor there and walk straight to the end,” while he was saying the directions for Charmaine he was also pointing out with hand movements so that Charmaine knew where he was talking about,
“And then you turn left, and when you have walked past the pathology, you make a right turn and it will be the first door on your left, it has a sign there saying, ‘Training Centre’
“Ok, thanks for your help.”
“I have an appointment with my patient, so I’ll see you at training, bye.”
“Ok, see you then, bye.” Ron ran off through the main entrance and towards the parking lot.
Charmaine went by Ron’s directions and when she reached the end of the corridor, she saw a man and a lady arguing.
“Give it back to me!” the lady yelped.
“It’s for your own good!” the man cried.
“I earned that, and that has my sweat and blood all over it!”
“Yes, that’s why you end up here!”
The lady was trying to seize the object in the man’s hand but he held it high above his head where the lady couldn’t reach it. But suddenly the man got really irritated and pushed the lady to the ground.
Charmaine quickly ran towards the lady and helped her to her feet, and turned towards the man, “What’s wrong with you, are you mentally disabled or WHAT?!”
“Excuse me miss, I don’t know who you are, but this is none of your business, so may you keep out of it!”
“I will not just stand there and watch you abuse this lady here!”
“Maybe if you knew the whole story, you will agree with what I’m doing and know that I’m not abusing but actually helping her!” He then turned around and walked off, where as the lady did not say a word and also strolled away.
Charmaine glanced at her watch and realized that she only had a few minutes till the training started, so she quickly went by Ron’s directions and made her way to the training centre. She immediately opened the door and there were already a group of people who had already found their spots and made friends. Charmaine quickly made her way onto a seat in the front row next to a girl that looked like a similar age to Charmaine.
“Hi my name is Charmaine.”
“Oh, hi, my name is Gigi.”
“Nice to meet you Gigi, when did you get here?”
“I got here 15 minutes ago, but when I got here, the group of people was already here.”
“Really, so are you confident about the training?”
“Yep, it shouldn’t be that hard, because we also have the help of the trainers.” The door swung open and people started to come into the room. There were 3 trainers all together, Ron and two other men. But there was one thing that caught Charmaine’s eye. There was something familiar about one of the 2 trainers. CLICK!! She remembered now, he was the man that she had a fight with before the training she was trying to protect the girl from getting abused. Charmaine suddenly had a rush of panic going through her body. He then stepped forward towards the microphone, “Hi everyone, welcome to the doctor’s training course, this course is supposed to prepare and teach you how to be a doctor and what is required of you, but firstly I’ll introduce myself, I’m Doctor Lam, but you can just call me Raymond, I’m one of emergency doctors.” Another man stepped up,”Hi, I’m Bosco Wong, you don’t have to call me Doctor Wong, it makes me feel old, just call me Bosco, and I’m like Ray, one of the emergency doctors too!” And then Ron stepped up to introduce himself, ”Hello, I’m Ron Ng, you can just call me Ron, It’s ok anyway you call me, and I’m different to Ray and Bosco, I’m a surgery doctor, I’m in charge with the surgeries.”
Raymond started to talk into the microphone again, “Ok, today is the first day, so we won’t do anything complicated; we’ll just start with a tour around the hospital!” As everyone was walking out the room, Charmaine got pushed to the back in front of Raymond.
“Hey I know you, you that nosey girl that thought she knew everything!”
“Firstly, no I’m not nosey I’m just helpful to ones who are in need and secondly, I don’t talk to men who abuse women!”
“Firstly, I want to untie this knot between us, I didn’t abuse her, do you even know what I was keeping off her?”
“No, probably money, she said it had earned it and had her sweat and blood over it?”
“Of course not, if it was money why would I keep it off her, I’m doctor I can just earn it myself,” he rolled his eyes,” She was about to take drugs, the type she had was ecstasy, she is now really addicted to it now, she was sent her because her neighbour found her on her porch vomiting and when she was sent to the hospital, we realized she had rapid heartbeat, muscle tension and confusion.”
“If we do not stop her now she may result in heart disorders with high blood pressure or blood clots.”
Charmaine was in shock and felt terrible that she misunderstood, and thought Ray was trying to take her money.
“Are you serious?”
“Nah, I’m just joking, of course I’m serious, this is no kids game woman!”
“I’m very sorry I misunderstood you.”
“You better be sorry!” Ray flashed a disgusted look at Charmaine and walked out towards the other group members.
