“And so, the boy caught her attention…she told the boy to come to her house…she asked the boy to make her doll…a doll who is like her…represent her…the boy said he cannot do it…he was no good in crafting a thing that he can’t imagined…and the girl laughed…she said the boy was lying…who couldn’t imagined a beautiful girl like her??? “But their love met many obstacles…it was painful to see them fighting with the fate that kept separating them…but their love was strong…and they made a vow…to be together forever…even if they were apart…they will met again, be together again, even when hundreds years passed, they will recognized each others again…for death also cannot set them apart…their vows was sealed with a pair of rings made by the boy himself…but, sometime even when you tried to run away from your fate, what was destined for you will never leave you…soon after they vowed, the girl fall ill…in fact, very ill, she was dying from days to days…” said Mr Inoue…he had walked up to the door now, looking far for something Mao and Jun couldn’t see…but inside their head, they could see the couple vowing, the rings hidden in a chest, the small cottage and the dying girl…
“The girl moved to stay with the boy in his small cottage…she decided to leave her house when her parents arranged her wedding with another boy…she could no longer able to stand a minute away from her man…and so they lived together…they hid their rings well inside a chest…the chest then was buried…no one knew where it was…the girl was dying and each days passed as a slow motion for them…counting the days, hours for them to be together…the boy decided to marry her…but her parents disapproved it…and so, he gave her his mother ring…as an engagement ring…she was very happy with it…the girl who was so arrogant once had became a very lovely lady when she fall in love with the carpenter boy…” Mao’s grandpa let out a laugh…he sat back at his chair…Jun and Mao held their breath…it suited with their dreams well…
“But everything changed after that…the girl died…a day after she had her wedding ring…the boy didn’t cried at all…he just wanted to remember the good things he had shared with her…” the old man ended his stories…then, he sighed, smiling at Jun and Mao…
“What happened to the boy???” asked Jun when he knew what the answered might be…
“Nobody know…only heaven know…some said, he killed himself…some said, he died some months later after the girl…” he answered him and Jun nodded…the same ending in his dreams…
“I wondered grandpa…how did you knew about this stories??? It can’t be the story happened during your time right???” asked Mao…she glanced at Jun and he stared back at her…she got a point there…
“Oh, no…you see the stories happened in this village itself…like some kind of our village’s legends…the cottage where the couple lived was said to be on the hill behind our house…in that small village up there…and the doll…was said to be still inside the house…” the old man said…this time, he glanced at Jun…he stared at him like he had just saw him and remembered something about him…
“What did you say your name just now boy???” suddenly he asked Jun in a serious tone…Jun gulped…had this had anything to do with the stories???
“Matsumoto Jun…” Jun replied back in a small voice, looking at Mao who had now raised one of her eyebrows in confusion…
“Hmm…one thing I had remembered now, the boy in that stories was rumored to be called Junpei…and your name is Jun…how close your name to him,” the old man said and he started humming a song…Jun looked at Mao…on her face, he caught the same shocked expressions that had struck on his face too…it can’t be??? Was Jun somehow related to Junpei???
“Em, grandpa…Mr Inoue??? Do you know the girl name??? The one in the stories???” Jun asked, his voice shook a little…Mao looked at her grandfather in an eager expression…
“Ah…well that is the matter…nobody know what is her name…only her family name was known…and that was Oikawa…” said the old man…Mao pulled Jun up from the floor…they had to discuss this matter…this shocking news they had heard…
“Grandpa, I think that’s all for today…we are kind of tired so, can we just leave??? You needed some rest too,” said Mao in a very fast way…any delaying on talking with Jun will kill her immediately…her grandpa nodded…and so Jun and Mao walked out from his house, straight to the beach…
“Do you believe that the stories really happened here??? Does it really exist???” asked Mao to Jun when they had sat on the beachside…Jun pulled out his shoes and started playing his feet with the sand, clearly deep in thought…Mao watched him while waiting for him to answer…
“I don’t know…but I guess, Oikawa…hmm…that name clicked some buttons in my head…” Jun answered her after some time…Mao looked at him in surprise…
“You know…Oikawa is really just a surname…it can be anyone name…like Sakurai…like Izawa…just an ordinary surname…” Mao told him…she can’t find anything special about this name that could possibly related to her like Jun related to Junpei…
“Hmm…I guess we need their help now…my Arashi boys…” said Jun, still deep in thought…Mao nodded…
“What do we do now???” Mao asked him…they were walking to Mao’s house…they planned to go back straight to Tokyo…they needed to talk with Arashi…needed them to help them…
“We talk to them first about the stories…then, we will try to find out about this Oikawa family…” Jun told Mao his plan…Mao nodded a bit…then, she looked at Jun with big wide eyes…
“What now???” asked Jun, alerted when he saw Mao’s action…
“There must be hundreds of names…hundreds of families…” Mao said, sighing…Jun realized this matter too…he grabbed Mao’s shoulder and hold her closer to him…Mao looked up at him…
“I know…but this is the only plan I could think of now…maybe the others had a better idea then…” said Jun, looking back into her eyes…Mao smiled a bit…somehow, she felt safe in Jun’s arms…and they walked back in silent after that…
“Why did you two have to be so hurry in going back to Tokyo???” asked Mao’s father, feeling unhappy when Jun told him they had to go back to Tokyo immediately…Mao had gone upstairs to pack her things and Jun’s…her mother was busying herself with some foods she wanted Jun and Mao to bring back to Tokyo…
“I’m so sorry uncle…but I got an urgent call telling me I needed to go to some interviews tomorrow morning…so, I need to go back now,” Jun replied him…he had just got used to this two lovely parents of Mao and now, he too feeling a bit reluctant to go back…
“Will you drop back again some day???” asked Mr Inoue…he liked Jun…this boy was so polite to him…he had a mental nagging feeling inside him telling him that Jun is a suitable guy to be with his daughter…even though he likes Mao’s steady boyfriend too, that is Oguri Shun…
“I will…I like to be here…the beach looks so welcoming and I hadn’t got a chance to even put a toe inside the sea…” Jun joked…Mr Inoue laughed out loud…Jun laughed along with him…
“What is the thing that is so funny that you two laughing about???” asked Mao, appearing with her mother…her mother shook her head and made her way to her husband…he whispered something to her and the two of them laughed…
“Now that is annoying…am I the only one who is not allowed to know what is going on here???” asked Mao again, annoyed with Jun and her parents…Jun grinned…
“Nothing, my dear…don’t be pathetic…” answered her mother…Mao groaned and moved to the door, getting to the car…Jun got up and followed her…so do her parents…
“Good day to you, drive carefully okay???” said Mrs Inoue to Jun while kissing Mao goodbye on the cheeks...Mao nodded, still annoyed with her parents…Jun smiled and they took off…
“What???” asked Jun innocently when Mao gave him a sharp look…
“What had you done with my parents??? Why are they so attached to you???” asked Mao in an annoyed tone…Jun grinned evilly…
“I told you…I’m irresistible…” Jun answered her, grinning more widely…Mao rolled her eyes and said something like ‘mental’…Jun laughed…
“How do you feel???” Jun asked her after he had managed to stop laughing…
“Irritated,” Mao replied him and she smacked Jun’s arms…he laughed…Mao had turned sulky and she stayed quiet while Jun drove all the way to Tokyo…
