===============================================================
The wind blew a little harder on this cloudy late afternoon. The sky was looking ominously purple as if it seemed heaven also grieving with a young lady who stood expressionlessly in front of a wet burial ground as she was only at her early twenties. Her thin figure was wearing a simple black knee-length dress and a black veil was almost covered her beautiful pale face.
She felt numb. Her tears had vanished just like the smoke in the thin air. She could not cry hard enough. She had lost everything in her life. The cruel fate had taken both of her parents at the same time. Now she was all alone. At such young age, her world was crashing down and she had to face it solitary.
Slowly she was down kneeling and placing a flower on the ground. Her parents’ names were written on the simple epitaph. IN LOVING MEMORY JANE AND KEVIN YANG. Her parents were buried in the same place. It was her request as she knew that would be what they wished. They were always together. They shared their laughter and love even death. Sometimes she was jealous of her own parents and thought how selfish they were leaving her behind. But it was what had happened.
She still remembered clearly what had happened on that faithful morning. Two elderly policemen had knocked on their house door. Reluctantly she had opened the door and faced the mourning expression of them. The world had seemed to move very slowly. It had been as if the clock had been manipulated and it had not ticked the way its supposed to move. Her feet had glued to the ground and she could not have moved one muscle as she had heard the news. Her parents had an accident. Both of them just had stepped out from the bus they had ridden on the way back home when suddenly an unexpectedly car had appeared out of nowhere, speeding fast towards them. The car had collided with their bodies. Her father had been almost smashed by the car and laid lifelessly on the ground while her mother had been in the critical condition. She had passed away on the way to the hospital.
One of the policemen had asked her whether she had relatives that she could have consoled and accompanied her. Mutely she had shaken her head. She had nobody in this world besides her parents. True she had Shancai, her only best friend that she could have relied on. But besides three of them she had no one.
She had not known when and how those two policemen had driven her to hospital and led her to the mortuary to identify both of them.
Horror had engulfed her as she had entered and seen her parents. Their pale faces had been already cleaned and their eyes had been shut. There had been no sign of blood or anything. Her parents just had lain covered with white cloth until their chests and somehow had looked so peaceful as they had been contented with whenever they had been now on the cold steel divans in the cold temperature room. And as it had been the pinpoint to bring her to reality, tears had begun to flow on her face for the first time. Her grieving had affected few people in that room. She had knelt down besides her parents’ forms as if she could have not carried the sadness. She had held her mother icy cold hand and started to cry uncontrollably calling out her name.
“Ma… Please wake up…” She had sobbed bitterly but her mother body still had remained. Dissatisfied, she had moved her hand to her father. “Dad… Please wake up… How could you leave me alone…” Her voice had started to squeak and she had started to beg to them to open their eyes. But their eyes had remained sealed and heaven remained unmoved. The angels had claimed them altogether leaving her behind.
“This can’t be happening…” She had softly muttered, the tears had kept rolling on her cheeks and one by one had felt on her father white hands. “Please dad…” She had started to beg again, “Please tell me that you are only joking… Please…”
One of the forensic doctors had helped her to stand as she had been staggered and slowly walked her out from the room. He had placed her on the white wooden hospital bench. He had been the same age as her father, maybe slightly older when he had consoled her tenderly.
“I am so sorry, child.” He had whispered sympathetically to her.
She didn’t say anything. She had only felt the hot tears felt on her face.
He had held her both of her cold hands as he had informed her that the police had caught the man who had been responsible for this accident. That man just had finished his party and drove under the situation when he had been drunk. But she had not said anything. She had not cared if the police had caught the man who took her parents’ life away. It had not mattered anymore. The police could not have brought her parents back to life. The drunken man could not have regretted what had happened and definitely no one could have turned back the time.
He had also offered her to call someone or her relatives and made sure that she had not been alone at this moment. But again she had shaken her head. She could not have thought whom she had supposed to call. Her parents’ had no family. Both of them had been the only child just like her. She had not known her distant relatives also since they had not been close. She and her family had not been rich. But they had been happy. She still had managed to go to school although most of the time she had it from her scholarship until she had attended at her third years in University of Taipei now.
The gentleman had squeezed her hands tightly as if saying that everything would have been alright. But no! Everything would not have been alright, ever! She had lost her parents. They had gone and they would never return.
“Would you like someone to take you somewhere?” He had asked again softly. It had seemed that it had been part of his job to make sure that the family left behind had been taken care.
She had just about to say that she had nowhere to go when vaguely she had heard a familiar female voice called out her name.
Shancai, her best friend had whispered as she had approached the bench. Slowly she had looked up to her and saw the tears had threatened to fall. “I’m sorry… I just heard the news…” she had muttered and without waiting another minutes, she had hauled her. Shancai, her best friend had hugged her and shared her pain. They had sobbed in each other arms, not knowing that the nice man who had accompanied her had left them behind quietly.
And yes Shancai still had stood by her all this heartache moment, because for her everything seemed had been blurry. It had been just like a fast forward movie. She had not known who had handled all the preparations, met the pastors, arrangements of the car and the funeral. She only had known Shancai had been one of those who had helped her. She had been there besides her from the moment she had brought her home and accompanied her all night through the time when they had been in the church.
She had sat by the front pew alone and just stared at two coffins. She had stopped crying, not only her grief had been already beyond tears but also she had not had tears left to shed.
She had not known how many people had attended the funeral since no one had come to approach her yet. She had not known that the pastor had made his speech and asked her to pay her last respect to her parents before they had closed the coffins. She had done what she had been asked.
After that, they had proceeded to the burial ground where her parents’ coffins had been lowered at the same place. Even when they had died, they had been together into the depth of the earth.
Shancai had been also the one who thanked the pastor and helpers before they had gone but not her. She still let herself sunk into the soft grass. She only felt a cold breeze hovered swirled around her.
From the corner of her eyes she saw Shancai lowered herself to her level. She tapped her shoulder.
“It’s time to go now.” She said softly and placed a bouquet of white lilies next to her single flower she just had put a minute earlier on her parents’ tomb.
Slowly she turned her gaze to Shancai and nodded meekly. Her exquisite black dress was little bit dirty as she helped her to stand with her heavy heart but she didn’t care.
It was then she realized that she saw the first man stood in front of her, he was Dao Ming Si. He was Shancai’s fiancé. He was the leader of the famous F4. His five-nine feet and well-built frame was standing by her. Clad in the dark suit. His handsome feature which most of the time showed the air of autocracy had changed into a deep sympathy.
He took another step closer before he closed the gap by hugging her. “I’m so sorry.” He whispered and gave her his deepest condolence.
“Thank you, Dao Ming Si.” She released the hug and forced herself a smile.
He caressed her hair as if she was a child. “Everything will be alright, maybe not too soon. But it will be alright.” He promised before slide away from her.
Second she saw her friend Ching He and his girlfriend, Mimi Lee or she used to call her short name Mimi. If she saw them in a different situation, she would laugh her heart out. Two of them wore the same clothes. Black pants with black shirt. Instead of being a couple, they looked like twin. But she was not in the different situation. The reality was she stood in front of her parents’ grave and accepted their condolences mutely.
Behind them stood closely Mei Zhuo Ling and his fiancé Xiao Qiao Ming. They hauled her without uttering a single word. She felt a fresh of tears dampened her clothes. She knew Xiao Qiao; her new friend had shared the pain with her also. But she could not cry any longer.
“Thank you so much.” That was all she could say after she drew herself out from them.
Xiao Qiao Ming just smiled sadly. But her sadness could not hide her beautiful appearance today, wore only a simple long black dress. Her muscular built companion had leveled her look by wearing a dark grey suit. Today his jovial dark and sharp eyes were brimming. Mei Zhuo Ling almost cried.
The next person approached her was Hua Ze Lei. The most reserved and remote member of F4 had hugged her tight. He was the same height as Mei Zhuo Ling and Dao Ming Si. She could see that his boyish handsome face was unreadable and she always thought that he was the person who didn’t care about other people business, but now it showed differently. He cared for her. He cared for his friends.
He kissed her pale cold cheeks before he shoveled both of his hands inside the dark blue elegant jacket and gave his long-term girlfriend the opportunity to show the condolence to her.
Teng Tang Jing was the most beautiful creature she had ever met. Even though she was one of the richest daughter in Taiwan but her personality were humble and kind. She had shown few times of her kindness in the past to her and today was not exception. Her perfect graceful body that wore a black turtle neck shirt with a black trouser embraced her. Her beautiful face was flooded with tears.
“Are you okay?” She asked softly and looked at her face intently.
She wanted to say something but her voice was cracking out. She only could close her eyes and nodded.
“Are you sure?” She asked again and drew her embrace.
Still with her eyes shut she nodded and managed to show a weak smile.
When she opened her eyes, she found him.
He appeared behind all of them. His feature was handsome. Everything about him was perfection. His dark thick dark springy hair now was a neck-length short cropped against a well-shaped head. He had a cleanly chiseled face with an austerity, along, high straight nose. His jaw was long. He had firm finely molded sensuous lips.
His power had hit her just like a rush of electricity as she felt his impact surged over her. Yes he had his power over her for almost three years in her life. He was a wall of power and wall of authority especially with a black roll-neck sweater, well-cut wool pants and black shiny pantaloon. His long cashmere jacket had enhanced his tall, leaned, well-built figure.
But it was his eyes that had captured her as she saw him at first look two years and eleven months ago, although that time, it was framed with clear spectacles. It was dark and fathomless with a glint that came and went like a shooting star in the sky. Their midnight quality reeled her in.
He had said nothing as he moved towards her. He never took his eyes off of her pale face.
Finally they stood face to face and an intangible commando had ordered the rest of her friends to leave them alone behind gave them some privacy.
“I’m so sorry.” He finally said, his voice as she knew very well was rich and deep containing so many influences.
Her lips curved slightly forced her again to show a smile. “Thank you for coming and paying the respect for my parents”
“I found out this morning.” He informed and continued, “I just arrived from business trip.”
“That’s okay, I understand.” She managed to sound steady.
“Are you alright?” He asked. His gazed didn’t leave her face. As matter of fact he moved a step closer. He had stood too near.
She blinked slowly as something lurched inside her. His resonant had threatened her eyes to cry for the first time since this morning. How could just one that question from him affect her so deeply? But she knew because it was of his presence.
The heat came off him in waves despite of a cold breeze. Her mouth was desert dried. Finally she nodded in answer to his question, incapable of forming the words.
There was a long paused between them. He didn’t say anything. His eyes continued to scrutinize her face as if drinking in every detail, to confirm her silence answer.
She entwined her fingers together clasped it tight as it was the core of her energy. She still focused on her threaten tears and now her focus was divided on steadying the rhythm of her breathing.
Their eyes collided and he could see her vulnerability and how she was fighting it. Hell, he knew that she had been fighting her vulnerability in front of him long ago. He could sense her fear also. She grew more beautiful every time he saw her, but she looked so fragile now with a tell-tale smudged of tiredness around her eyes. Her dark-brown hair was now long, just slightly beyond the waist as it showed under the black veil enticingly.
He could smell her feminine scent and he let himself be enveloped by it. How he wished to hug her just like the rest of his friends. How he wished that he could simply hold her tight giving her the consolation and comfort she really needed now. But he knew, once he did the impulse action, everything he had built would easily break apart.
He had to gather up his senses, trying so hard to push aside his yearning of hers as he extended a bouquet of white roses to her that he had been carrying it. Her sorrow eyes locked at him.
“It’s for my deepest condolence.” He said as he kept his face straightened.
Reluctantly she received the flowers as if she was afraid to have a physical contact with him. His heart was bleeding. Well, he could blame no one but him, he was the one who made her like this towards him and he had to take the consequences.
She bent to put the bouquet on her parents’ burial ground before she faced him again. The black see-through veil was so contrasted with her beautiful white face. It didn’t hide her grace of beauty at all.
The air of silence ascended them. It was only few of sparrows on the trees twittered and sang a sweet beautiful song yet immensely sad that the heaven would weep filled the awkward silences. Fortunately Shancai called from the distance and asked her to return back to the car. She nodded after that she bowed her head down, gave her silence pray to her parents for a moment.
He accompanied her praying, at least he could do that. He stood there waiting for her to retreat back to where all their friends had waited for them. He walked behind her, he yearned to put his arms around her but all he could do was staring blankly at her thin figure.
