“2 minutes everybody and were good to go, Places, places. This is it, break a leg everyone! Rainie, Anne, knock them dead!” cried the dance director. “This is it Rainie!” Anne said, with a wink. “ Ya this is it!” I replied.
The moment I heard the music, it’s like my body had a life of its own that was totally separated from my entire being, I drowned out all other sound and concentrated on the dance that has made me forget everything, every sorrow and sadness there is, I let it fill my mind and my soul with the intensity that would give me the satisfaction of feeling alive and whole. I then let it carry me to different heights that I otherwise would not have reached.
The people that saw me that night were all full of awe as they regarded all the moves I made. Totally unaware of the effect my dancing had on them, I continued to move with grace and fluidity that had many profess—it looked like I was floating. It was not my intention to impress them I just did what I loved doing, unconscious of the effect it brought not only to the people watching but also to those I dance with. It has always been that way, I dance with my heart and soul, for it is only while dancing that I feel totally FREE and LOVED.
My heart was pounding and I feel really exhilarated after the last turn I did. At the corner of my eye I saw the crowd clap and seemingly in slow-motion, one by one stand from their seats. It was an overwhelming feeling that even after 3 years of performing in front of large crowds, I still get nervous on the outcome of every show I do.
That was the longest and the best 2 hours of my life, we received a standing ovation for our performance, and everybody was congratulating me, telling me that I was really awesome.
“Great performance Rainie, we’ll see you in 30 minutes at the reception, ok? Some people are really excited to meet you.” said the company director.
“Oh boy, this is it!” I said to myself, its either they offer us the Asian tour or not. I found Anne at the dressing room talking to my mom, she’s probably telling her about the offer, with the way my mom was really beaming.
“ Rainie, you were really great, Me your Pa and your brother are really so proud of you”, cried my mom, with tears in her eyes, “thanks mom”, I replied while hugging her really tight, for I have really missed her.
We were interrupted with Zach knocking and poking his head through the door, “Hey Rainie, Anne we have to go to the reception”.
“Hello Auntie, did you see how exceptional Rainie was?”, said the smiling Zach. “ and of course I’m sure nobody missed how great Anne was too, I’m really proud of you two, you girls just make me so proud!” and with that he gave Anne a kiss, which Anne enthusiastically reciprocated.
“ Ok guys, that enough, my mom is here, aren’t you even ashamed! Showing her how corny you two can be, stop it already” I exclaimed but was really happy for the two of them.
“It’s ok”, my mom said, “I just wish Rainie has someone as adorable as you Zach”,
“Mom, please…Zach isn’t that great” I joked.
“ Anyway, I think you guys should go now, I’ll just see you there at the reception” said my mom, as she leaves the room.
“ You guys ready?” asked Zach.
“Ready as we’ll ever be. ASIA here we come!” cried Anne, and we walked out of the room hand in hand.

(Taiwan - After 1 month or so)
VS, at the private room reserved only for Taiwan’s most Elite group, the F4.
Meizhou and Xiao Qiao were the first to arrive for their weekly Friday meet.
“here comes, Azi and Sancai”, said Meizhou, “hey guys, where are lei and Ximen?” asked DMS.
“ Lei is on his way, while Mr. Workaholic will be late, he’s still finishing up something in his office”, replied MZ.
“ that pighead, always working late, when will he listen, I always tell him to take it easy, but he never listens”, vehement statement from Sancai.
“take it easy Sancai, that’s not good for the baby”, said XQ.
“ if anything happen to our baby, I’ll break that Ximen’s face” said Daomingsi, Meizhou and Xiao Qiao just looked at each other helplessly.
“hey what’s with the faces?”
“Lei! Do you really have to sneak up like that!” Sancai, reprimanded lei,
“I didn’t sneak up, it’s just you guys were too busy, hollering about Ximen” lei said with a laugh. “ and speaking of that playboy, here he comes”.
“ hey guys, sorry I’m late”, said the man of the hour.
“Ya, so whats new about that, man, you should really try to have fun sometimes!” said MZ.
“ hey, I still have fun you know, I go out, you just don’t know about it, cause I don’t tell you guys”, Ximen defended.
“ya right, whatever Ximen”, this from lei who was somberly examining the other.
“hey Sancai, have you heard that the famous ballet company from New york is coming to Taipei for a 2 night performance? I will reserve tickets for us on the opening night, for it is said that their 2 principal dancers are really good, and one of them is Asian, isn’t that exciting, so we should not really miss it, and that goes for everybody!” said XQ, trust XQ to break the tension of the group.
“that’s really exciting” said Sancai, but suddenly Sancai, remembered Xiao You, that brought a frown on her face.
“what is it honey? Are you not feeling well? This is all your fault Ximen” said Azi,
“what did I do?” cried Ximen,
“it’s not him Azi, just stop it, I just remembered Xiao You” replied Sancai,
“why, what about Xiao You?” asked XQ,
“ its just that I remember that XY really loved ballet, I remember, that she worked in Italian Tomato, so that she could pay for half of her tuition in ballet school, ‘cause her pa really didn’t want XY to waste her time in ballet, but instead to finish her management course so that she could help out in their business when she graduates, If you guys think I’m hard working then, well, you were all wrong for Xiao You really surpassed even me, I really admired XY’s perseverance, she really wanted to finish management school so as not to disappoint her pa, but she still managed to squeeze ballet school, with her job in the bakeshop” reminisced Sancai.
“I didn’t know that Xiao You was into ballet” this came from Meizhou,
“well, that was really her first love, since grade school, she has dreamed of being a ballerina, and you should see her dance, the stage just come alive whenever she dances, it’s as if she was really born to be a ballerina, but I’m just sad that her pa was not really supportive of her dreams”, said sancai.
“ but why? If Xiao You was really a great dancer, why is her dad not supportive?” asked XQ. “ it’s just that her pa believes that his children should be the one to continue on their business, and a diploma in management should be what XY should aim for. But her mom, is really trying to convince Xiao You’s Pa to let her fulfill her dreams, but up to the time that XY left, it seems that her pa never relented” sadly recounted by Sancai.
“Ximen, did you know that Xiao You wanted to be a ballerina?” asked lei,
“No”, was the very monosyllabic reply of Ximen, without anyone noticing, Ximen was really absorbing everything Sancai was saying, for it was another insight on XY that he never knew, God this is getting old, thought Ximen while rubbing the bridge of his nose, what with tension filling up his body on the thoughts of Xiao You.

It’s already 4 am but sleep still seem to elude Ximen, thoughts of what Sancai has said about Xiao You kept him awake, It made him realize that he never really knew Xiao You, he never had the chance, because he pushed her away, its at time like this that it seems that he longs more for her, and he never fail to try to convince himself that what he did was the right thing, for he never wanted to hurt her.
In his mind he quickly reviewed the past 5 years, looking for answers. What, he wondered made him flee like a frightened rabbit from Xiao You after she showed him the billboard. He remembered hugging her as if his life depended on her, for that was the first time he let anybody see what he was feeling.
He saw her reaching for his hand, gently and silently lending what ever strength she had, and he remembered the way she’d watched their hands joining---as if the moment was profoundly meaningful to her. Her fingers trembled when he touched them.
He saw her smiling up at him with those somber eyes of hers – “ I love you Ximen”, were the words she uttered.
