They were all at Hankyung’s apartment, hours after Tiffany’s funeral. They were still wearing their funeral clothes. Little Eunmi was on the sofa, soundly sleeping.
“NO, Shindong, whatever happens. I don’t know what he can do to Eunmi.” He said.
“But oppa, u-unnie already said it.” Yuri had difficulty saying the term that referred to her deceased bestfriend. “She said she doesn’t want you to keep the baby away from him.”
“But I don’t know, we don’t know what kind of man that Siwon is.
“Hyung, I saw him featured in one of those magazines, you know, for the ladies.” Ryeowook said from the corner. “One of Seoul’s top 10 hottest bachelors.”
“See! I know he’s another one of those lot that gets drunk every night and makes out with some ran-“ Hankyung stopped. He didn’t think before he talked.
“Unnie’s not just a random girl.” Yuri said, evidently angry.
“Sorry, I didn’t think before I talked.” Hankyung said.
“I agree with Hankyung. He should not give the baby.”
Eunhyuk said, drinking some coffee. “We don’t know.”
“But think, that man’s rich, he could give Eunmi a great life!” Shindong said.
“I don’t care. I’m gonna give Eunmi the best life I could give anyone.” Hankyung said. He caressed the baby’s cheeks, admiring it’s innocence and unawareness of the problems surrounding her.
“But in the end, you’ll have to give her to him. There’s such things as law, oppa.” Yuri said.
“I don’t care. She’s mine. I don’t want that Siwon man anywhere near Eunmi.”
“But oppa! That could be kidnapping! And you’ll have to go to work!” She was right. He doesn’t have any blood relationship to the baby beside him, and he could be arrested. And he had work, he was PE teacher at the high school near his apartment.
“I’ll quit if I have to. I’ll do everything in my power to keep her away from that man.” Hankyung said. His friends all gave up, and one by one, left the apartment, leaving him with Eunmi alone. But truthfully, he couldn’t quit his job, he loved teaching so much, and if he did, he won’t have any money to buy Eunmi milk.
Just four days after Eunmi was given to him, he had already learned to love her. He would let her drink milk, change her diapers, and rock her to sleep. He enjoyed it, he always wanted to be a dad. But that is, with a mom. That should have been Tiffany, but everything came down to ashes when she confessed that she was pregnant with another man’s child. Since then, they never saw each other again.
Eunmi’s eyes opened, and an ear-piercing cry was heard from the baby. Hankyung instantly picked the baby up and put it in his arms, rocking her while walking around.
“Shhh…shhh…shhh…little Eunmi’s a good girl, she won’t cry..shh…” Hankyung kind of chanted. Only a week and he already had lullaby and silencing songs for Eunmi. He admits himself; he has no right over this baby. But he’s just genuinely afraid of how the Siwon guy will treat Eunmi.
