“Wow, what a surprise.” Eunhyuk said, handing the lunchlady money. It was lunch time in Neol Paran High, and everyone was starving. “I told you, you shouldn’t have even attempted to do it.” He was commenting on what happened on Hankyung’s little visit to Siwon’s.
“Hyuk, I really don’t know what to do.” Hankyung said, misery on his face as he and his Math teacher friend sat down.
“Bring her to the orphanage.” Eunhyuk started devouring his kimchi rice.
“No…I mean. I just don’t want her to experience what I experienced.” Hankyung said. He was an orphan himself, and no one wanted to adopt him. He was forever confined in that miserable orphanage in a dirty suburb of Seoul. His elementary and highschool education was paid for by the orphanage, but he had to work hard for his college. He applied for odd jobs after his school, only to go home to Eunhyuk’s apartment dead tired.
He owed Eunhyuk a lot. He was the one who asked Hankyung to live with him, as he was homeless. They met in highschool, they were best friends. When Hankyung earned enough money to buy an apartment of his own, he moved out of Eunhyuk’s and in to his new apartment. They were also co workers, Hankyung the PE teacher, while Eunhyuk taught Math. They also met Yuri, the pretty librarian, Ryeowook, the sweet music teacher, and Shindong, the computer teacher. But the most significant one that Hankyung met was Tiffany.
Tiffany was the clerk. Hankyung would remember that she would place some papers for the teachers from the principal on their tables in the staff room. He liked her the first time he saw her, and he instantly started making a move. He started with bringing her coffee, and helping sometimes with her load. Then the rest was history.
They were in a relationship for almost a year, but then they fought for the first time when Tiffany said that her parents are asking her to go back to the States, and she consented. Hankyung got very angry, which made Tiffany walk out of his apartment, only to end up getting laid with Siwon after going to a club. Tiffany then found out that she was pregnant.
Everything went back to normal for Tiffany and Hankyung after reconciling, but no secret will be forever hidden. When Tiffany was four months pregnant, she confessed to Hankyung, as her belly started to grow. Hankyung was more than angry, and he broke up with Tiffany. That was the last time they saw and spoke to each other in five months.
Then one Saturday, as Hankyung was finishing his lesson plan, Yuri called him up and said that Tiffany was about to give birth to a baby girl. He rushed to the hospital, only to find out that Tiffany’s life is in danger as she had cervical cancer. Hankyung felt immensely guilty, and sat with Tiffany until she died. Her last wish was to let the father of her baby see their child.
“Mr. Han, Mrs Kim asked me to give you this note.” A thin boy with red shoulder length hair came to the two who were eating lunch.
“Thanks Taemin.” Hankyung said to the boy.
“What’s it say?” Eunhyuk said.
“Nah, she just wanted to see the lesson plan for next semester.”
“God, that hag. It’s way too early.”
“Hyuk, watch it, the next thing you know you might be out there selling rice cakes.”
“Don’t be that bad Hannie.” Eunhyuk said with a chuckle. “Anyway, where did you leave Eunmi?”
“Ahh, I left her to Hyoyeon, you know, that tough girl living beside Mrs Jung’s unit.”
“That? Oh goodness. You should be careful. You know that girl, beats anything she hates to pulp.”
“Nah, she just pretends to be tough. Deep inside she loves bunnies just as Sungmin does.”
Yuri and Ryeowook joined Hankyung and Eunhyuk in the table. Yuri looked like she could burst laughing any moment while Ryeowook looked pissed.
“What the dang hell happened?” Eunhyuk said. “Why must everyone be so sad? Don’t you think that Hankyung’s enough?” Hankyung glared at him.
“The hag said that I was too feminine. She said that I was promoting the wrong image for the school.”
Just then Yuri burst out laughing.
“WHAT?!” Ryeowook glared. She just shook her head profusely. Now Eunhyuk and Hankyung joined the laughter.
“We-well, Wookie, what the ha-hag said was true...And you just look so cute ang-angry” Yuri said, laughing hardly in on their faces.
“So-sorry…But see, you made Hankyung laugh for the first time in months.” Eunhyuk said.
“Yeah, it’s nice to see you laughing again. We only see you happy when you’re with Eunmi.” Yuri said, earning a smile from Hankyung.
“Speaking of Eunmi.” Ryeowook said heavily. He was still pissed. “What happened to your little visit to Siwon?”
“Ooh, you’re in a first name basis with him I see…” Eunhyuk teased, Ryeowook glared at him again.
Just then Hankyung’s smile disappeared. “He said he can’t take her. He didn’t want her.”
“What? Where does he live? I swear I am going to kill him.” Eunhyuk said.
“No. I mean…He was kinda afraid when I told him Eunmi was his. Then he became angry, offering me money.”
“Now really. Eunmi’s so unlucky having him as a biological father. But oppa, you still need to find a way, Eunmi’s medicine and milk is so expensive, even with all of our money combined.”
“I know. I’ll find a way” Hankyung said sadly.
