Miyeon didn’t take notice of her tone and said back, “No, Heewon left me somewhere. I’m with Jaejoong and his two friends. But don’t worry okay? I’ll be home soon.”
Dawn sighed. And smiled into the phone, “At least you’re with Jaejoong. I’ll see you later then. Bye.” Dawn hung up the phone and finally slid comfortably under the covers. Now I can finally get some sleep. Jaejoong, I leave my sister in your hands, Dawn thought calmly closing her eyes to a well-deserved sleep.
Miyeon put the phone down from her ear and looked at it. I’ve been such a horrible sister lately, I’m sorry Dawn, Miyeon thought. She headed back to where Junsu and Yoochun were, kicking some dirt into a small pile of snow nearby. Once Junsu and Yoochun saw Miyeon coming back, they flickered their attention back up to the sky. They didn’t want to be caught staring again. The stars were starting to fade now since the sun was going to rise soon. But still, a less-starry sky was better than being caught staring.
Miyeon sat a reasonable distance away from Yoochun and Junsu. She handed back the phone without even looking at them and looked at her shoes. Yoochun nudged Junsu in the ribs to tell him to make the atmosphere better. Junsu cringed at the hit and eyed Yoochun. Yoochun’s made it clear what he wanted Junsu to do. Junsu rolled his eyes and got up to sit beside Miyeon. He sat down with a groan and slapped his hands on his knees, shocking Miyeon.
“Ah, it’s been a beautiful night. Don’t you agree Miyeon?” Junsu said looking into Miyeon’s eyes. Miyeon looked at him curiously and nodded slowly. She turned her head front again, deciding it was better not to look him straight in the eye. Junsu felt Yoochun’s eyes beaming into the back of his head. He waved Yoochun to leave so he could think. Yoochun got up and started to take a little walk. Leaving the two of them alone, Junsu was finally able to think. What can I do, what can I say, Junsu questioned in his head. Not wanting to beat around the bush any longer, he just went straight into the question, “Miyeon, do you have any feelings for Jaejoong, whatsoever?”
Miyeon stiffened and stared at Junsu, “Why would you say that?” she replied. She knew she didn’t have feelings for him. In this type of experiment, you couldn’t get attached. If there were any feelings, she would have to throw them away immediately.
Junsu sighed, “Can’t you see that he likes you though?” Junsu felt anxious for Jaejoong for a moment. What if his feelings were not appreciated at all? He would be so hurt, and it just wouldn’t be right. Junsu waited for her reply restlessly.
“I know he does. But, I can’t like him right now. Not in the situation I’m in,” she said seriously. Jusnu felt something building within him, then he let it all out.
“Why can’t your feelings just be there? Is the situation you are in so bad that you can’t have any feelings?” Junsu stood up, feeling the emotion in his rant, “feelings are there no matter what. No matter what kind of problem you’re in, they're are there! You can’t stop feelings, it’s not right. You have to let yourself be free. Don’t use that as an excuse. You can’t just ignore Jaejoong either. He likes you so much, and you can’t even take that to heart! I saw how cold you were towards him; don’t think I didn’t notice. Do you even have a heart? How could you—,” Miyeon cut him off suddenly and stood up too.
“Don’t say that I don’t have a heart. I care for people too much. I’m only doing this experiment because I care too much, okay! So don’t even go there Junsu!" Miyeon said sternly. Junsu went wide-eyed.
“Ex- Ex-Experiment? What do you mean experiment?” Junsu stuttered. Miyeon’s jaw dropped. Did I just say that, she screamed in her head. At that moment, she felt like she broke something. In her mind, a sound of breaking glass was heard. Miyeon fell to the ground and put her head in her hands. Junsu squatted beside her and patted her on the back.
“I just ruined the whole thing now,” Miyeon mumbled in her hands. Junsu waited for her to speak, not wanting to be pushy. “I just ruined this whole thing by telling you I’m doing an experiment. This sucks,” Miyeon mumbled again.
“What’s this experiment about exactly?” Junsu finally asked. Miyeon lifted her face from her hands and smirked.
“I might as well tell you now. So I’ll start from the beginning,” Miyeon sighed. Miyeon just gave the facts about it so far. How she picked Jaejoong, how she tried to come up with schemes, how she tried to become cold, etc. Junsu was attentive, even though it was a bit confusing for him. He couldn’t believe that she would make this kind of bet though. She was actually a good person, not a cold-hearted girl at all. At the end of it, Junsu shook his head.
“Why should you have this kind of experiment? I mean, not being hated, is something that people want. You shouldn’t continue this Miyeon. Honestly, your best bet it to drop it now,” Junsu said, “drop it now, before someone gets hurt.” Miyeon considered this for a moment. If she dropped the experiment, what would happen? Would she really be impacted? She bit her lip thinking about it intensely. Just as Junsu was about to say something, Yoochun and Jaejoong appeared together. Jaejoong was holding a warm blanket and Yoochun was looking tired as heck.
Junsu and Miyeon peered up at them. Immediately, Jaejoong wrapped the blanket around Miyeon without hesitation. Miyeon tensed up and glanced at Junsu, who winked at her to stay calm. Miyeon relaxed and let Jaejoong wrap her warmly. “You were cold earlier and you didn’t tell me. You just got over your fever and I don’t want you to be sick again,” Jaejoong explained finishing up and making Junsu move over so he could sit by Miyeon.
“Hey guys, the sun’s about to rise, can we watch it in silence?” Yoochun piped in. The three agreed and faced front awaiting the rising sun. Miyeon felt the fabric that Jaejoong had wrapped around her. He had gone to the trouble to find it for her. She glanced at him. Light was now spreading and the sun was rising before them. Is it really worth it to hurt someone who cares for me, she wondered. The light over-whelmed them and Jaejoong’s image looked heavenly. Miyeon smiled peacefully to herself while looking at the shining, smiling Jaejoong. I’m not the type of person who hurts people, Miyeon finally thought before turning her head to take in the full blown image of the sunrise.
