Chapter 14

- - indescribable

Miyeon could hear the clocks ticking inside her house. Everything was so quiet at five in the morning. Miyeon glanced around the house seeing that everything was in order. She went from room to room just to check. The last thing she wanted was to go to bed and everything was a mess. Seeing that all was good, she headed upstairs to her bedroom and felt the tug on her eye-lids for sleep. In Miyeon’s bedroom, the sun was shining brightly from her window. The warmth washed her face as she prepared to sleep. Even though she came home so late, she kind of appreciated it. If she didn’t go with Jaejoong and the other two, she would have probably kept doing her experiment. Once done preparing, she laid on her bed and closed her eyes peacefully.

But, even though she closed her eyes and was extremely tired, she couldn’t fall asleep. All the events that had happened that night, or morning, were in her head: the bond between Junsu and her, Jaejoong’s generosity and caring self, and even Yoochun’s sleepiness. Then she remembered what happened before that: the club, Jun, Heewon leaving her there alone and helpless. It was in her head too. Miyeon sat up in her bed and felt a shiver down her back. The good things did over-power the bad things but, it still itched at her that those things happened. Looking at the clock, Miyeon decided that it would be useless to sleep. She had to wake up Dawn soon and also get to her own classes. In total, she had really only had an hour and forty-five minutes of real rest.

Miyeon huffed and sighed. “I need one day just to relax soon.” Miyeon jumped out of bed and headed to the bathroom to shower. She could feel that her mind wanted to sleep and just skip one day of classes, but she just couldn’t do that. I can’t miss any classes, Miyeon thought in the bathroom.

As she stepped into the shower, the hot water hit her skin painfully, yet soothingly. Miyeon could feel all the bad things washing off her, leaving only the good things in her. She left the shower and dried herself off. She felt refreshed now, everything would be anew. She changed quickly and went downstairs to make breakfast. Eating a little bit of it once it was finished she decided it was time to wake up Dawn. Miyeon walked up the stairs towards Dawn’s bedroom and opened the door to see Dawn all scrunched up in her blanket.

Dawn was fast asleep, a little bit of drool coming out the side of mouth. Miyeon grinned at the cute image of her sister. If only she was this innocent all the time, Miyeon giggled in her head. She tiptoed towards Dawn and lifted the covers off her swiftly. “This is your wakeup call! You must now get up and move your butt!”

Dawn tried to reach for the blanket that was no longer on her with her eyes closed and then whined when she realized that she actually had to leave dreamland. “Why must you wake me up like this? Why can’t you just buy me an alarm clock?” Dawn whined sitting up.

Miyeon placed the blanket back on the bed and then pulled Dawn forward so that her feet were going to the direction of the washroom. “If I bought you an alarm clock, then you wouldn’t hear my lovely wakeup voice everyday!” Miyeon finally pushed Dawn into the hallway and grinned. Dawn wobbled towards the bathroom mumbling about how life would be way easier with an alarm clock and nonsense.

Miyeon raised her cellphone to her face and looked at the time. Her eyes widened, she was going to be late if she didn’t leave soon! Miyeon fast-walked to her bedroom and grabbed her bag. She checked if she had everything quickly and then raced off into the hallway, almost crashing into Dawn. Dawn stuck herself to the wall as Miyeon rushed past her. “Did you eat?” Dawn yelled after her.

“Yeah, I left some for you too. And get to school on time okay, I don’t want the teacher to call saying you were late! Be good and I’ll see you later,” Miyeon replied while getting on her shoes and running out the door. Dawn waved bye silently as the door closed and sighed. Miyeon-unnie, why must you stress yourself, Dawn sighed. As Dawn walked into her bedroom, she glanced at the clock and saw that Miyeon was indeed right to be rushing. Dawn looked away from the clock and then sighed. Then she looked at it again.

“I’m going to be late too!”

Miyeon wasn’t late for class at all. Instead, when she got to the classroom, the door said that the class would be starting an hour later due to a problem with the teacher. Also, the class was going to be transferred into another room, joining two different classes. Miyeon sighed and started to head towards the opposite side of the campus where the classroom was. The thing was Miyeon didn’t exactly know where that building was, so she was almost late for that class. She stumbled into the class seeing that there were double the students there should have been. Miyeon grabbed a seat in the middle next to a sleeping guy. His face was impossible to see because he was wearing sunglasses and a hood was over his head covering half his face. Miyeon tried to get a glimpse at his face, but there wasn’t anything really that showed.

The teacher walked into the room and all the students found an available desk. The guy beside her stayed asleep through the whole lesson. Miyeon had such an urge to poke him with a pencil to wake him up. To her, it seemed rude to sleep during class. If you wanted to sleep, just sleep at home. But at the same time, Miyeon felt like she wanted to put a blanket over him so that he would feel more comfortable. Miyeon figured the guy had a rough morning or something, so she tried not to stare at him or anything. But still, Miyeon felt distracted during the class because of him. As soon as the class ended and all the students stood and left, Miyeon stayed behind wanting to have the pleasure to wake him up. Once the coast was clear, Miyeon compiled her books in her bag and looked at the guy.

“Excuse me. Class is over now,” Miyeon tried whispering. The only sign of life from this guy was the fact that his chest was moving up and down slightly. Otherwise, it would seem like he was dead, he was not moving at all. Miyeon tapped him on the shoulder; still no sign. She then tried to look at the papers in front of him. Maybe calling his name would help. She turned and tried flipping through the papers. She then found a piece of writing. She tried to scan through it for a name of any sort and then she saw her name on there. Immediately she brought it to her face. She read it aloud.

“Something’s are just indescribable. Words cannot be formed. There are no words to describe the topic. For me, I am wordless about someone: Miyeon. She has taken my words away. I know that I have no known her for so long, but she has already made my heart beat faster than it ever has. I know it may sound silly, but everything she does is special to me. From the first day I met her, I knew she was something special. The way Miyeon makes me feel is just indescribable.”

Wow, Miyeon thought. Who wrote this?

“Do you like reading other people’s things?”

Miyeon turned and suddenly, she was face-to- face with the sleepy guy. Obviously, not sleepy anymore. Miyeon quickly placed the paper on his desk again and tried to slowly back away from him. “Uh, I’m so sorry. I was trying to find your name so I could wake you up… and…,” Miyeon stuttered, starting to regret ever trying to wake him up.

The guy looked away from her and grinned. He placed all his books in his bag and held out the paper. “What did you think of this?” he mumbled.

Miyeon bit her lip. She didn’t know if there was a right answer to this. Who was this guy anyways? “It was… uh.., can I ask who wrote it?”

The guy shook his head and folded the paper so it fit into his pocket. “How about we go to brunch first? I’m starving,” he suggested, still mumbling. Miyeon shrugged. She didn’t want to go anywhere with a total stranger again.

“I don’t know…,” Miyeon hesitated trying to refuse the offer in a polite way. The guy smiled reassuringly.

“You read something that was private. In order to make it up to me, you should treat me to brunch. You can even pick the place,” he said trying to persuade her. He really wanted to see what the girl thought of this paper. He knew that her trust wouldn’t be given easily after what happened. “I am a completely trust-worthy guy.”

Miyeon rocked on the balls of her feet and bit her lip. Classes were over for her now and if she took him to her café, Heewon would watch over her. Plus, she really wanted to know who this guy was and why he wrote what he did. Miyeon gave up, her curiosity won over her. “Okay, just follow me then. But, you have to promise to tell me everything, alright?”

The guy nodded and stuck out his pinkie. Miyeon took out her pinkie as well and they promised. They walked out of the classroom together to head to the café. But the fact that she didn’t know who he was still bothered Miyeon as they walked. Also, that one sentence he wrote was sort of haunting her mind; ‘The way Miyeon makes me feel is just indescribable.’
