Chapter 15

- - scary voice

It was good that the café was nearby Miyeon’s university. Even though she knew she could call for help at any moment, it was still unsettling to her that she was walking with a total stranger. A stranger whose appearance was not visible due to his clothing and shades. A stranger whose name she didn’t know. A stranger who wrote about her being ‘indescribable’.

Miyeon peeked at him while they turned a corner, now almost at the café. The guy was way taller than she was and had good style. But that’s all that Miyeon was able to see. Won’t this guy ever take off his sunglasses, Miyeon questioned. Miyeon stopped looking at him and looked forward seeing that the café was now in sight.

The guy looked down at Miyeon unnoticeably. She looked distracted and a bit worried. He thought one word, indescribable. He started to question this word. Was she really indescribable? How could she make ‘his’ heart beat? Whatever the reason was, it was ‘his’ feelings, and he couldn’t do anything about them. He saw that they were not at their destination as Miyeon opened the door at a small café. The door rang signalling customers entered and he stepped inside the warm shop. He immediately heard a voice coming from the back, “Hello, I’ll be right there.” Miyeon motioned him to sit down at a nearby table and then went towards the counter.

Miyeon leaned forward on the table trying to pinpoint exactly where Heewon was in the back. “Heewon-ah, it’s me! Where are you?”

Some shuffling was heard and immediately Heewon appeared looking all dolled up, but tired. Heewon put both hands on both sides of Miyeon’s cheeks and pinched her cheeks. “How did it go with Jaejoong yesterday? Did you make any process? Did—,”

Miyeon quickly released from Heewon’s dangerous cheek pinches and backed away a bit from the counter. She rubbed her cheeks and spoke, feeling the ache in her cheeks. “First off, that hurt just a bit. Second, we’ll talk about that stuff later. I really have something to tell you. Lastly, I have someone I’m having brunch with.”

Heewon tilted to the side and saw that indeed, Miyeon came with someone else. The guy was staring off into space. Heewon couldn’t tell anything about this guy, but she knew he spaced a lot. Heewon looked back at Miyeon and nodded. Heewon walked out from behind the counter and towards the mystery man, Miyeon following closely behind.

The guy looked up at Heewon, but his expression was not shown. Heewon didn’t like it when she couldn’t see what guys expressions were when she walked up to them. She loved to see guys look at her happily and think greatly of her, so this bothered her. She eyed him trying to look for something, but being unsuccessful, she gave up and decided to take his order. “What would you like sir?”

“Can I have coffee please?” he mumbled. Heewon nodded and as she turned back, she felt annoyed. Usually, she could find about people through their voices too. But this guy mumbled and she couldn’t tell anything! She glared at nothing and walked back to the counter to make his coffee.

As she turned on the machine, she heard Miyeon call out too. “I don’t want anything Heewon-ah. Just focus on the one coffee, you seem really tired. I won’t make you work so much today!” Heewon flinched at Miyeon’s sudden call and accidently spilled some coffee on the floor and her hand. Heewon sneered and cursed in her head. She wiped the burning coffee off her hand and went to get a mop, feeling like today was just a bad day.

As Heewon went to get a mop, Miyeon felt determined to start questioning the guy. “Now, can you tell me who wrote this?” Miyeon paused, “actually, can you first tell me your name?” she finally realized that she didn’t even know his name and he knew hers.

“Okay, first off how could you not recognize me? I saw you just mere hours ago,” he started. Miyeon squinted her eyes a bit and shook her head in confusion. He rolled his eyes, took off his shades and pulled his hoodie down a bit, revealing his hair and the other half of his face. “It’s me, Yoochun.”

Miyeon snapped her finger and suddenly felt dumb. “I’m so sorry Yoochun. I guess I really need sleep or something. But also, I couldn’t see more than half or your face,” Miyeon apologized. No wonder he seemed tired. He mustn’t have had much sleep either, Miyeon concluded.

“Anyways, now that we got names settled, can you tell me about that piece of writing?” Miyeon asked quietly.
Yoochun took the paper out of his pocket and unfolded it so it was flat on the table. He leaned back and pointed at it. “First off, what did you think of this?”

Miyeon sighed. She really wanted to know why he wrote it. “I was shocked that’s for sure. But, I didn’t really get it. Why did you write this? I mean, I just met you yesterday. It just doesn’t make sense to me,” she stuttered.

Yoochun chuckled and smiled at her, “You think I wrote this?”

Miyeon nodded her head, “Who else would write it? I mean, it was in your pile of papers and stuff. Like I didn’t see a name on there or anything. I’m assuming it’s yours.”

“Miyeon, sorry to break it to you, but I’m not into you like that. I mean, sure you’re a great girl and all, but I didn’t write it. Jaejoong did.”

Miyeon blinked her eyes a few times. “What? Then why did you have it?”

Yoochun leaned forward and shrugged. He picked up the paper and examined it. “When I saw how Jaejoong cared for you yesterday I was curious. I wondered how he really felt about you. So, when he dropped me off this morning, I asked him to write about his feelings for you. I thought it would be totally cheesy, but it wasn’t. I’m really surprised at what he wrote.”

Miyeon nodded her eyes and grinned a bit. Jaejoong thought of her as indescribable. It made her feel giddy inside which made her grin wider. He really liked her. Miyeon bit her lip and tried to look away so that her grin wouldn’t be exposed. Miyeon finally calmed down and turned back to see a smiling Yoochun. Just as she was about to say something, Heewon slammed down coffee on their table.

“Here’s your coffee sir. I hope you find it very pleasant,” Heewon said in a cold and sarcastic tone. She walked away from the table, her steps loud and angry. Miyeon stared at her best friend. What was wrong, she thought worried. Miyeon glanced at Yoochun who was now sipping his coffee.

He pointed the bottom of the cup at Heewon, “What’s her problem?”

“Heewon is sometimes like that. But, she means good. She is most likely tired and such, so don’t worry if she is acting crabby. Heewon is my best friend and she really is a great person,” Miyeon said trying to defend her friend. Yoochun nodded finishing the rest of his coffee in two big gulps.

“Whatever you say Miyeon. But, I have a class to get to now. I’ll talk to you another time. Now that I know that you attend the same university as me, it’ll be easier to see you around,” Yoochun stood up and started to take out his wallet.

Miyeon waved her hand, “I’ll pay for it. That was our deal remember? You go to class; I’ll take care of this.”

Yoochun stuffed it back in his pocket and smiled. “Thanks,” he headed towards the door, waved bye and was out the door. As he was about a block away, he shook his head. That Heewon doesn’t seem like the type of person Miyeon should be around. I’m getting good vibes from her, Yoochun thought continuing to walk.

Back in the café, Miyeon brought the coffee cup into the back for washing. She put the money for the coffee into the cash box and went to the back to get her apron. It was going to be time to work soon anyways, might as well get a head start. Once she had her apron on and tied, she found Heewon leaning with her elbows on the counter. Miyeon skidded up to her and stood beside her feeling concerned. “Are you okay Heewon-ah?”

Heewon moved her head towards Miyeon. She was so annoyed at the moment that the only thing that she wanted to know was the progress that Miyeon made with Jaejoong. She didn’t want to hear any of Miyeon’s little concerned questions or anything. If one thing was sure to make her feel better, it was that experiment. “Tell me about the experiment. How’s it coming along?”

Heewon expected the answer to be good. Because Heewon saw Miyeon slapping Jaejoong before she left. She tapped her fingers waiting. Miyeon bit her lip now worrying about what to say. She had to word it wisely so that Heewon wouldn’t explode at her.

“Uh…, it’s you know..,” Miyeon stuttered. She was stuck, she couldn’t say it. Heewon lifted an eyebrow. “I… uh..., how do I say this…,”

Heewon pounded her fist on the counter and snapped. “Just spit it out! I don’t want to hear your stuttering! Tell me if Jaejoong is going to hate you yet or not!” she yelled angrily. She came closer to Miyeon looking deadly. Heewon was taller than Miyeon, so she towered over her too. Miyeon started to back away feeling panicked.

“I dropped the experiment!” she yelled out. Miyeon’s back was to Heewon and she covered her face with her hands. Heewon stopped dead in her tracks.

“What did you just say?”

Miyeon peeked through one of her fingers and saw that Heewon was just floored. She turned so she was a bit closer to Heewon. Miyeon inched closer and closer being really careful. “Heewon-ah, are you okay? Heewon --,”

“Why did you drop the experiment?” Heewon roared, making Miyeon jump all the way to the wall feeling like Heewon was about to eat her. I have a bad feeling about this, Miyeon thought as Heewon walked towards her looking gravely dangerous.
