Chapter 23

- - a mistake

Jaejoong felt pumped the day before while talking to the Dawn’s. As he told them his realization, their faces glowed with happiness and their smiles widened. They both felt relaxed and relieved that they had decided not to follow Jaejoong at all today. Dawn-M was going to hang out with her friends from school that day, but Dawn-J didn’t have a fun agenda. She was going somewhere private and was secretive about it.

Looking into the mirror, Jaejoong groomed his hair a bit. It was a bit messy, but neat enough at the same time; perfect. He grabbed his car keys and headed out to get to the park. He felt his heart beating greatly as he drove down the road. That morning when he woke up he decided something. Jaejoong decided that there would be no more of Heewon’s plans in his life, there would be no more hiding feelings, none of that anymore. Today, he was going to show his feelings for her fully and do things his own way.

Arriving at the park, Jaejoong walked out of his car with a huge grin on his face. He tried to calm himself before seeing Miyeon, but it just wasn’t working. He felt happy, but nervous and there was nothing that would calm his emotions. He bit his lip as he looked around the park for Miyeon. Not seeing her immediately, he checked his watch if it was the right time; it was.

Jaejoong started to rub his arm worried that Miyeon decided not to show up at all. “Where are you Miyeon, I need to see you,” he mumbled to himself. He decided to walk a little further into the park just in case. After circling once around, he felt his heart sink. She really didn’t come, he sighed. He looked at his feet and rubbed the back of his head. Although it was such a disappointment that she wasn’t here, he would still show his feelings for her somehow. Jaejoong decided that today was the day that he would show his heart, so no matter how long it took, he was going to find her somewhere in the city and show it.

He lowered his arm and then looked up. All of a sudden, he caught sight of a familiar person. His heart instantly skipped a beat and then it sped up incredibly. She came, she actually came, he exclaimed in his head. Jaejoong knew it was time to show his heart and fast walked to her. Her back was turned but he knew it was her, he just knew it.
Jaejoong sped up a bit in his walk and then held onto her shoulders. He felt her tense up and knew it was Miyeon. “Miyeon-ah,” he said happily. Jaejoong felt her relax her shoulders and then smiled. Now was the time.

His heart beating wildly, he closed his eyes and then turned her around. He softly kissed her lips and felt her kiss back. Jaejoong felt his insides fly and he broke the kiss. As he opened his eyes, he saw Heewon smirking evilly. Jaejoong widened his eyes and felt like he was just poisoned by the devil.

“Jaejoong-ah, you’re a good kisser. But I was a little insulted that you said Miyeon’s name and not mine. Don’t you think that’s weird Miyeon-ah?”Heewon smirked and then leaned a bit to the side looking behind Jaejoong. Jaejoong gasped and then hesitantly turned around. Instantly, his heart sank and he wished he could take back the last two minutes.

Miyeon couldn’t even see anything more. Everything was a blur to the excessive tears flowing out of her eyes at the moment. What she had just seen… she couldn’t even describe how much it hurt. She came today expecting to make some kind of peace with Jaejoong about the whole situation. But, after seeing the two kissing, she felt her heart being ripped to pieces. Not wanting to be a part of the scene, she turned around and started to run out of the park. While running, she tried to wipe the tears, but they just kept coming out. Miyeon thought she had gotten all the tears out the day before, she was obviously wrong.

Finally out of the park, Miyeon hid behind a tree and plopped herself onto the grass. She was out of sight of all other people thankfully, so she cried a bit more and then stared into the blue sky. She sniffled and then sighed. “What’s the use of such a pretty sky when life is being so dull?” she sighed once more and then just tried to breathe.

Inside right after Miyeon had started to run off, Jaejoong was going to go after her. Starting to run, Heewon held Jaejoong back firmly. Jaejoong tried to shake her off lightly, but Heewon wouldn’t budge. Feeling a bit annoyed by her, he turned around to face her. “I need to go after her Heewon.”

Heewon let go of Jaejoong and then patted his head like he was a pet. “Oh Jaejoong, you just don’t get it. She doesn’t want to see you anymore after what she just witnessed.” Jaejoong bit his lip knowing it was true. Heewon continued, “I can’t believe you can’t tell the difference between the backs of Miyeon and mine yet. I know that the last time we were in the park, you got confused, but getting it mixed up twice is just ridiculous. I thought since you basically loved her, you would be able to tell the difference; guess I was wrong.”

Walking past Jaejoong, Heewon patted Jaejoong’s head once more. “You poor thing, I’ll try and talk to Miyeon.” Suddenly, Jaejoong grabbed her by the wrist that she patted him with.

Holding a serious gaze he said, “I don’t need your help anymore Heewon. I can deal with this on my own. I don’t need your plans or crazy ideas. I can do this on my own. I can get her to love me, on my own.” With that, Heewon released her wrist and glared at him. She turned her back and then went to find Miyeon on her own.

I don’t care about you anymore Jaejoong, she thought. You were just a pawn in my scheme. I can continue to make Miyeon feel hated without your help. Heewon grinned evilly and then finally spotted Miyeon behind a tree looking at the sky. As Heewon approached, she could see that Miyeon’s eyes were puffy and her nose was red from crying. Heewon smirked as she mentally check-marked in her head that something was accomplished today. Casting a shadow above Miyeon, Heewon spoke, “Get up Miyeon.”

Miyeon glanced up at Heewon and obeyed Heewon by standing up. She had more than a few words to say to Heewon. Staring at Heewon, Miyeon started to think about totally bashing on her. But then shook those thoughts out of her head. She wasn’t the type of person to just totally explode in someone’s face. She decided she had to do things calmly so that she wouldn’t lose a friend today.

“Heewon, what’s happening?” she asked quietly.

“What do you mean what’s happening Miyeon-ah? Are you talking about what you just saw?”

“No, not that. But I mean… Heewon, are you… Heewon do you not consider me as a friend anymore? Everything is a blur right now and I just don’t get it. It feels like, we aren’t friends at the moment.”

Miyeon saw tears at the rims of Heewon’s eyes. Instantly, she felt a pang of regret that she even brought this entire thing up. Heewon wiped her eye and then said in a shaky voice, “Miyeon-ah, what are you talking about? I didn’t mean to. I mean…,” Heewon looked straight at Miyeon with watery eyes, “I just don’t want to lose a friend.”

Hearing that, Miyeon bit her lip and hugged Heewon. “Can we just straighten this out then? I’m so confused at the moment, and I don’t know what’s happening anymore. I am your friend Heewon; your best friend. But, I don’t get why all these things are happening with Jaejoong. Why are all these complications with him coming up?”

Heewon pushed Miyeon off her and Miyeon almost lost her balance but steadied herself. Miyeon looked at Heewon in shock. Amazingly, Heewon wasn’t teary-eyed or sad at all anymore. She was glaring at Miyeon.

“Why are all these complications coming up? Are you kidding me? Are you saying you aren’t happy that Jaejoong and I are together?” Heewon said coldly.

Miyeon shook her head. “Heewon, that’s not it. It was just so unexpected. I didn’t expect that to happen. Everything hurts right now and it’s just confusing.”

Heewon glared at Miyeon. “So unexpected? What, you think just because Jaejoong liked you first, you think you have dibs on him or something? Are you jealous? Are you jealous that he kissed me? Did you want to be me at that moment?”

Miyeon put her hands on Heewon’s shoulders and shook her head. “That’s not it Heewon!” Miyeon took her hands off Heewon’s shoulders and then put it to her forehead. “I’m just confused. I don’t even know what I’m saying anymore. This is so confusing.”

Heewon rolled her eyes, “Ugh, are you serious? The only reason you are like this is because of Jaejoong. Recently, it has been all about Jaejoong. Now that you lost him, you are feeling regretful, is that right?” Heewon approached Miyeon and then poked her finger at her. “Well guess what, you don’t deserve him. You tried to make him hate you in the beginning. You were the one who made up the experiment and continued on with it. I didn’t force you at all; it was all you. What kind of love is that? Let me tell you again: you don’t deserve him.”
