Chapter 5

“We will find her, I promise.” Jaejoong said seriously at Miyeon. Miyeon nodded her head and tried to look a bit happier. Truly though, she was still very worried about her sister.
“Don’t frown. We can do this.” Jaejoong said lifting up her chin with his finger. Miyeon looked at Jaejoong’s face. His perfect features made it pleasurable. When she focused on his eyes, she felt a sense of security in them. There was something there that was different. Then, a warm feeling in her hand broke her concentration on his eyes. Miyeon looked down and saw Jaejoong’s hand comfortably holding her hand. His touch felt warm. Miyeon looked up at Jaejoong trying to conceal her shy expression.
“Let’s go.”He said with a grin. With Jaejoong’s hand in Miyeon’s, they started to walk up the park hoping to find something. Behind them though, was an angry person whose ears were exploding of steam.
Heewon crossed her arms across her chest and bit her lip strongly. As she watched them walk away from her, she felt like she would scream. How could they not even notice her standing her? It wasn’t completely cold, but the snow everywhere did give her a bit of a chill. Once they were out of sight, Heewon kicked the snow pile in front of her. “What is wrong with them?!” She shrieked. When she tried to kick the snow pile again, she just missed. Heewon’s leg went up too far and she started to lose her balance. She steadied herself then smoothed out her jacket. That was close. Don’t want to embarrass myself, Heewon thought.
“Mommy, mommy! Watch this!” Heewon heard a little boy that was a few meters away from her say. Heewon looked around her surroundings wondering what she was to do now on her day-off. She her eyes landed on the little boy and the next thing she knew, there was snow in her mouth and all over her face.
“Mommy, save me!” She heard the little boy run away. Heewon spat the snow out of her mouth angrily.
“What the heck?!” Heewon roared. She wiped the snow off her face furiously and opened her eyes even though there was a ton of snow piled on top of her eyelashes. I can’t believe my day, today. This is just horrible, I’m going home, Heewon complained in her head. She pivoted her foot and headed out of the park. I’ll just think of schemes at home, Heewon thought. While walking out of the park, she kept on thinking the same thing, life sucks, how could Miyeon not hate at all?

“Dawn! Dawn, where are you?” Jaejoong and Miyeon called out on both sides of the side walk. It had been nearly twenty minutes and Miyeon felt like she was on the brink of tears. She had the image of Dawn rocking back and forth on the ground crying out for Miyeon. Miyeon blinked her eyes and suddenly ran in a circle.
“We have to find her! Dawn I’m here, please wait for me!” Miyeon screamed while running in her circle. Jaejoong stared at her sympathetically.
Miyeon must be really upset. If I lost Dawn, I would start crying and go insane, Jaejoong thought. He stopped her mid-step and placed his hand on her shoulder. “Miyeon, we will find her. I will look all day and night if I have to.” Jaejoong really wanted to make her feel reassured. He could make her trust him and help find her sister; he was hitting one bird with two stones right now.
Miyeon felt his warm touch on her shoulder. She was about to smile when she remembered her experiment. I can’t let him into my comfort zone, Miyeon stated in her head. She put a blank expression on her face and moved her shoulder so that Jaejoong’s hand fell off. “I don’t need you to help me. She is my sister and my responsibility. You can go home Jaejoong.” She said coldly. Miyeon really didn’t want to be harsh, she truly valued his help, but she couldn’t fail her experiment. She put her hands in her pockets and started to walk away from him. As she walked further, she could feel the coldness of her voice biting at her through the winter wind. Miyeon really disliked when she had to be nasty, it didn’t make her feel good at all.
Jaejoong was shocked at Miyeon’s harsh tone. Was he bothersome to her? Had he done or said something to upset her? Jaejoong watched as she walked away with the wind blowing in her hair. Miyeon had seemed grateful for Jaejoong’s help, so why was she saying her thoughts now? She hadn’t mentioned anything about that before and she didn’t seem like the type to be cold.
Jaejoong looked up into the pale sky. Why was she so cold to him just now? He looked back down the sidewalk and saw Miyeon still shouting out for Dawn. She must really care for her sister, I can’t just let her mind be worried, Jaejoong thought. Unconsciously, he started to look around for Dawn. Miyeon had showed him a picture earlier so he had an idea of what she looked like. Jaejoong suddenly really wanted to find Dawn. Even if Miyeon wanted him to go home, he wanted to continue looking for her. “Dawn, are you here?”
*******Miyeon was exhausted. She had been running around the park for about another fifteen minutes since she left Jaejoong. How could she not have spotted her sister in that time frame? Was she just over-looking on where she would be, or did someone take her sister? Miyeon hit her head, she couldn’t have those thoughts. The wind suddenly picked up and Miyeon grabbed her bare ears. She should have come more dressed up for the weather. Miyeon sniffled and continued to search.
When Miyeon had gone around the park once more and didn’t spot her sister at all, she knew that looking around the park would be useless. She sighed and walked towards a bench. She wiped off the snow and sat back defeated. She put her elbows on her knees and put her head in her hands. How could she lose her sister? How could she live with the guilt of never finding her? Miyeon felt like tears were about to escape. Miyeon had no way of finding Dawn. Dawn didn’t have a cell phone and she knew that Dawn wouldn’t go home without her. Miyeon groaned into her palm. When they find Dawn, the first thing they would do is buy her a cell phone. But that wasn’t the important issue at the moment, she had to find Dawn.
Miyeon jumped up and rubbed her bare hands together blowing into them to warm them up. She felt her nose running a bit but ignored it. Miyeon started to walk outside the park to check just in case. If Dawn wasn’t in the park, she had to be somewhere near the entrance of the park.
While walking out of the entrance, Miyeon’s head started to get a little fuzzy. I have been working too much, Miyeon thought. She shook her head and continued to search thoroughly through the crowd. Miyeon’s steps were getting heavier every time. She felt like she was getting no progress at all. Miyeon sighed and looked around for a place to sit. I have to rest for a bit, she thought. When she spotted a bench only ten metres away, she heard a familiar voice behind her. She halted and waited for it again. When the voice came again, Miyeon sighed. It’s only Jaejoong. But why is he still here? Miyeon started to drag her feet again but then heard a familiar laugh. Miyeon spun around which made her head hurt and tried to find the source of her sisters laugh.
Miyeon scanned the crowd and finally spotted Dawn sitting on the edge of a skating rink board eating ice cream. Miyeon smiled brightly. Thank you, she exclaimed in her head. Then she saw who was beside her. Jaejoong was grinning at Dawn with an ice cream in his hand as well. Miyeon stomped towards them a bit concerned.
Dawn spotted her sister and stopped mid-sentence. “Unnie, where have you been?” She said confused. Miyeon looked back and forth between Jaejoong and Dawn her vision getting a bit blurry. Miyeon pointed back and forth as well.
“Miyeon-ah, you see what happened is-” Jaejoong started but Miyeon cut him off.
“What are you doing with my sister? Dawn, don't eat that ice cream, it could be poisonous. Where have you been all this time?” She scolded looking at them both. All of a sudden Miyeon felt her body going a bit weak, but held it in.
“Do you know how worried I was? I was about go ballistic! Let’s go home.” Miyeon said boldly and grabbed Dawn’s hand. Dawn jumped off the side of the skating rink and turned around to look at Jaejoong. Jaejoong got off too and tried following them.
“Unnie, you have to thank him for finding me!” Dawn said trying to shake off Miyeon’s hand. Miyeon turned around dizzily and let go of Dawn’s hand. She huffed and tried to look mad even though she was truly happy that Jaejoong found Dawn.
“Look Jaejoong, I am – ” Miyeon started to say and then suddenly, Miyeon felt her knees go weak and she started to fall to the side. Miyeon’s eyes closed as she was falling and she felt light. She felt that someone was holding her but didn’t care as to who it was. As her eyes were closed, she could hear people calling out to her, but she tried not to listen, for once, she wanted to just sleep and have a relaxed mind.
