Chapter 35

Kiki

Breezes of chilly wind brushed pass them as they stood gaping at the empty entrance to the city. Leila and the rest had arrived outside .Leung Chow・ expecting to see lots of night lights and people having a late night dinner, but they didn't. Instead, the city was abnormally quiet and unusually dark. When they were about to take a closer look, imperial guards stopped them.

"I'm sorry my lady, but there has been some problems here. You mustn't stay, it's too dangerous." The leading imperial guard said.

"What's wrong?" Michelle asked for everyone.

Even though he needn't to obey her, he could tell the princess wanted to know the answer as much as her loyal friends did.

"Something terrible has happened. We were in front of you, making way. When we arrived here, the place was on fire. After clearing it out, we realised that there were no survivors. But the worst thing was, they were all dead before this placed was set on fire. In other words, someone had wiped out the city and set fire to it..."

But before he could finish, Sammuel had already ran into the city gates. Michelle and Leila followed, knowing what he had thought of. Although Ron and Bosco were confused from Sammuel's reaction, they both followed them in.

They froze at the spine-chilling scene. Burnt bodies laid lifeless all over the place. You couldn't even tell what one looked like before their tragic death. They slowly paced the corpse covered grounds of .Leung Chow・, each were shocked at the sight in front of them.

"What happened here?" Ron asked nobody in particular.

But one answered. "The same thing that happened to my city." Sammuel said.

Before Bosco or Ron could ask anything else, a small sound of whimper echoed in the air. Their heads turned to search for the crying survivor. Leila called out a command to the guards and they started searching for the cry's Belonger.

After a while, the leading guard who talked to them earlier, walked out with a petite girl by his side, crying. Leila walked towards them and bent down to the little girl・s height.

"Hey little girl. Don't cry. What's your name?" Leila's voice was soft and gentle as she wiped the tears off the girl's face with her delicate fingers.

The girl continued crying, but under Leila's encouragement, she stuttered out words that meant a lot to her.

"Granny...Fire...Snake...Kiki scared." Kiki said.

Leila stopped asking as Kiki bursted into more tears at the mention of her granny. She pulled the innocent girl into her embrace, comforting her. The others watched and felt Kiki・s miserable memories flooding into their minds.

As the sun rose in the horizon, the five and their new companion, Kiki, stepped out of .Leung Chow・. The bodies had all been buried now, after a nights work.

They had managed to get the story from Kiki finally. Once again, a group of soldiers dressed in grey and red with a silver snake badge on had came one night and killed everyone in the city.

As they was about to leave the city grounds, horse neighing could be heard in the distance. They turned to see who it was.

Their shadows loomed over them as one looked like they where going to pounce on Leila. The man turned out to be Raymond, who pulled Leila into his arms as soon as he was on the ground.

Raymond lifted Leila's head and found her crying for the dead.

"What's happening? Why are you here?" Michelle asked, half bowing.

"We received news from Kevin, so we came as soon as possible. Did you get hurt?" Raymond asked Leila.

"Who's Kevin?" Michelle asked.

"The leader of the group of imperial guards i sent to keep an eye on you." Raymond said.

"Oh."

Raymond turned back to Leila and asked if she was alright again.

"I'm fine. But apart from Kiki, everyone is...is dead." She said and cried, soaking Raymond's clothes. Raymond patted Leila gently on the back of her head and turned to look at the little girl Leila was holding onto.

Kiki shuffled uncomfortably under Raymond's stare, and ran to hide behind Michelle. Raymond let go of Leila and kneeled down to look at the girl.

:There's no need to be scared. I'm a good person. I won't hurt you. I promise.; Raymond held out his little finger, knowing Kiki was still young.

Kiki hooked her little finger with Raymond's and cuddled him. The others watched as Kiki started to cry again. They now know how good Raymond and Leila were with kids and were surprised that they were even royalties.Ron shifted next to Leila and wrapped his arms around her as she continued to cry.
