Chapter 39

Joe Ma

It was the day before the prince¡¦s wedding. Red wedding decorations could be seen round every corner of the palace. Raymond could always be seen with a wide smile on his face. According to traditions, Tavia was not allowed to see her soon to be husband till the night of the wedding. Leila, Michelle and Nancy gave her company during the past days, either by getting ready for the wedding or exchanging stories of their past.

Ron, Bosco and Sammuel took up the job of being Raymond's company. Sometimes, they would join the king in meetings to discuss the problems that are occurring in the east. It wasn¡¦t until their third meeting, did they meet the suspect of their eliminations- Raymond's sixth Wong sok, Joe Ma.

They were in the middle of discussing if they should hold a war.

¡§But if we do, our cities in the Far East aren't powerful enough to maintain their stance till our army arrives-¡¨ Before Raymond could finish off what he was saying, an eunuch announced the arrival of Sixth Wong ye.

¡§Greetings your majesty. I hope I'm not too late. I had some business to take care of.¡¨ His face gave a challenging expression.

It was as if he knew the king wouldn't punish him, he made his way to an empty seat next to Raymond.

¡§So, who may I ask are these three unfamiliar faces?¡¨ Joe asked with no respect at all.

¡§If, my sixth brother, you have attended our last two meetings, then surely you would've known my guests. But since you didn't, these three are Ron and Bosco from Wah San Pai, and Sammuel, my soon to be daughter in law's brother.¡¨ The king introduced.

¡§Yes yes. I've heard of our prince's sudden marriage. I also believe I heard the girl tried to kill our prince.¡¨ Joe emphases the word ¡¥kill¡¦, wanting to know the king¡¦s reaction.

The news was a surprise to the king, since his son hadn't told him about how he came across his soon to be wife. Though this was the case, the king didn't put on a surprised look, instead he frowned.

¡§Well my dear brother. You are believing too much of what you are hearing, aren't you?¡¨

Knowing nobody can say ¡¥no¡¦ to the king, Joe replied nothing to what he really wanted to say.

¡§Yes, maybe. But there's always a source to rumours even if they are not true.¡¨ Joe pointed out.

Raymond realised the discussion wouldn't end up good; therefore he decided to end it.

¡§Ummm... Weren't we discussing the problems in the east?¡¨ Raymond asked nobody in particular.

The king turned his attention to his son, knowing what he was doing. ¡§Yes Raymond, thank you for reminding me. Let's continue then.¡¨

Because Joe was sitting near the further end of the table, the group of loyal generals and guests soon blocked out his view on the map that was laid out in the middle of the table. Angry and annoyed, Joe stormed out of the hall after several failed attempts to speak up. Hiding grins that tried very hard to creep up on their faces, the king and his guests continued to examine their problems.

Joe clenched the handstand on the chair harder and harder. Finally, it gave way with a ¡¥crack¡¦. Joe left the ends of the handle drop to the ground as he stood up and walked towards the door.

Right outside, stood a man with his hand in a knocking position. He wore a dark blue robe with a pale blue belt on it. The man was around half an inch shorter than Joe. He wore on a frowning look.

Joe stepped to a side and welcomed the man. Before stepping in behind the man, he made sure there were nobody outside but his two followers and the predators of the night.

¡§What brings your majesty here tonight? Surely the king would love to see you back.¡¨ Joe asked.

¡§That old hag wouldn't be a bit happier to see me than to see my dear siblings. Sometimes I wonder if I'm really his son, I'm nothing like him.¡¨ The young man said sitting down on the chair Joe had broken the handles to.

Joe sat down opposite him and studied the young prince. Something told him the prince was up to another one of his sinful plans.

¡§Your majesty. May I remind you that, if you do not gain your fathers trust before our plan continues, then your lovely sister will help your brother to rule over you. I believe that is not what you want?¡¨ Joe asked knowing the answer.

¡§I know what I want Uncle Ma. But when are you going to finish off what you were supposed to be doing?¡¨ The young prince asked.

Realizing his point of coming tonight was to blame his unsuccessfulness on his slow work. Joe answered with a small smile.

¡§We have decided to change our plan. Instead of killing the phoenix, we've changed our target to the dragon.¡¨

A smile grew steadily across his face as he heard the change of plan.

¡§So, you've finally taken MY plan into action. I knew you would one day.¡¨ He stood up and walked towards the door. ¡§I should get going now. They are expecting me at sunrise.¡¨

With that the young prince left the room. After a while, Joe also left his studies. Outside, his two followers-Steven and Kenneth, were waiting for him.

Kenneth, looking confused, asked. ¡§Master. Why are you letting that ridiculous lad order you around like that?¡¨

Joe smiled and answered. ¡§Because I need him to think that he's controlling me. But unknown to him, He is only a character in a play that I direct.¡¨

Understanding their master's plans, Kenneth and Steven followed him back to his room.
