Chapter 44

Representing The Kingdom

They hadn't had to wait for more than an hour for General Tse”¦s soldier to report the news at the north gate. They waited silently for the soldier to bow and stand up to report.

"The Red Dragon has gone face to face with the Mongolians in the north gate. We are slowly pushing them back, but the general predicts if we want them all out of the country line, then we need at least another army." The soldier reported.

"Another army? The only armies we have in the palace grounds are the king's guards and the second prince's ”„Northern lights”¦."A lord commented.

"Our only chance is the second prince's army. If we send for the armies in the outer border to came, it will at least take half a day. We haven't got that much time." The king said.

"Well...that's not exactly our only chance."

All heads turned to look at Leila. She had rarely been to war discussions when the old king was alive, and suggesting something was definitely something new to everyone.

"You have a suggestion Leila?" The queen asked, interested in what she was going to say due to the thought of not being able to help them herself.

Leila nodded her head. "Me and Ron knew something like this would happen therefore we..."

After Leila finished explaining her plan, a soldier came in to report more news.

"General Tse came face to face with the Mongolian's Knight in charge. It turns out that the knight is also the prince of the Mongolians. They are suggesting for a treaty talk with our representatives."

"Treaty talk? Shouldn't we be the ones suggesting it? I mean, they were the ones who started attacking first." Tavia asked, confused.

"Whatever reason it is, we still need someone to represent us. I would go personally, but with all the mysteriousness in this and a war still going on. I do not think I will be able to leave the palace." Raymond explained

Each thinking of the perfect person to represent the king, their eyes wondered from person to person in the hall.

"Maybe If iI..."Before Leila could finish, Raymond had understood what she had wanted to say.

"No way. Don't even think about it. You are a princess, no way am I going to risk your life by letting you go." Raymond said in his older brother tone.

"I will be alright. Besides, who else can you think of that can represent the royal family and the country. Our brothers and sisters are too small and second brother Bowie has to be here to protect you." Leila said.

"No, I am not letting you risk your life. Last time father let you have your way, you went missing causing awful commotions." Raymond said recalling their last outing.

"If it helps, I'll go along with Leila. At least that way she's more safe." Ron suggested.

"Yeah. I have Ron to protect me if I get into tight spots. And anyway Sammuel and Bosco will come to my support when they are done with what I asked them to do." Leila said.

Raymond still looking entrust at his sister, frowned. Michelle stepped up to the group and helped convince her master.

"We have no other choice your majesty. They said they want the talk as soon as possible. If we do not choose someone quick they'll think we don't respect them then things will go worse." Michelle reminded them.

Thinking for a little while more, Raymond finally gave out a small sigh of defeat.

"Fine. You will represent us, but as long as-" Before he could finish, Leila carried on what he was saying.

"As long as you send people to ensure my safety and that I don't do something silly. I know. And I won't make you disappointed." Leila said.

Raymond walked up to his sister and pulled her into a tight hug.

He whispered into her ear. "Please be safe. I can't bear to loose you so quickly after father."

"I promise." Leila whispered back.

Tavia stood and watched the touching scene shown in front of her, and her instincts told her that she couln't stay and do nothing. She had to do something.

It was within minutes that Leila had changed into suitable clothes for the meeting with the enemy's prince. Both Ron and Leila were standing outside the palace gates with a dozen of soldiers to protect them.

The king and Generals stood on the walls of the ominous walls and watched as Michelle and Nancy took them out of their sight.

When the two young ladies returned, Michelle was turning her head trying to find the queen. But with no luck she ended up asking the king himself.

"She must have ran to us or something, because she said she wasn't feeling very well just now. So I ordered for her to return to her room." Raymond explained to Michelle as if she wasn't a maid but a friend amongst the others, which she was.

Understanding, Michelle asked to leave to look after the queen. She was dismissed. Nancy on the other hand also returned to deep inside the palace where she hopped to find the two stars returned safe and sound.

As they reached the North gate of the country, they realised that the fighting was stopped. The soldiers, already knowing of their presence, bowed deeply to Leila and looked at Ron with great respect.

They were just under the gates when a voice called out to them. The two and the dozen fully trained Royal guards turned around and were all shocked to see who they saw.
