Chapter 48

Peace, or is it?

The air stopped flowing as all eyes laid upon Bowie. Finally, Raymond broke the silence.

"Of course you may leave. But I strongly ask you to attend this dinner for just a little longer. There is something very important that you must attend to." He indicated that both his brother and uncle must attend since there was no reason to refuse a king's request.

"Of course my dear brother." Bowie painted a fake-smile on his face and looked away from Raymond.

Michelle who had been standing closely behind Leila all this time was gestured forward by the queen.

"Bring it in Michelle, it is time. Oh! And whilst you're at it, bring Kiki along too. That poor girl's been waiting for a while now." Tavia said softly. "And brother, would you mind accompanying her please?" She asked Sammuel.

"Of course." Sammuel got up from her seat.

Michelle smiled and bowed deeply with respect to the hosts and their guests then walked out of the hall with Sammuel following closely behind. They left Bowie and Joe wondering what the King and his wife had prepared for them, though they knew it was something they wouldn't like.

And they were right. Michelle and Sammuel came back holding a golden wrapped scroll, which the two recognised as treaty scrolls, a golden Dragon stamp and a small girl following behind. Bowie's mouth fell wide open along with his eyes. Joe clenched his fists as his face twitched.

Michelle laid the scroll and stamp in front of the king and Mongolian prince, whilst urging Kiki to sit next the Leila and Ron.
When they introduced Kiki as a girl they had saved from a city on fire, the colour ran from Bowie and Joe's faces.

"Let us start the treaty ceremony now why don't we." Raymond said, handing the scroll to the Prince.

As everyone's attention focused on the two and the things in front of them, nobody noticed the sudden silence and shocked face of the uncle.

"I, Alec Su, the first prince of the Mongolians represent my country to accept this treaty with King Raymond, the eighth ruling king of the Tong dynasty. From today onwards, If trouble should arise for any one of us, we are there for the pride of our own country and the bond we create today." Alec then opened up the scroll and took out a stamp from his sleeve and printed a mark at the bottom of the scroll.

Next, Raymond did the same and finished the ceremony by pulling the golden dragon stamp from the scroll, leaving a square shaped mark behind.

"Well, that's that done." Ron said. "We should celebrate!"

The others, apart from Bowie and Joe, cheered whilst Tavia ordered for the dinner to start.

As the plates and plates of delicious food piled out in front of them, Raymond brought up another problem.

"Brother and uncle. Before we start to eat, I would just like to tell you some bad news." Raymond said, the sighing could be heard right after.

'It is not like the news you brought us already is not bad enough. What else do you want to play?' Joe mentally asked Raymond.

"A tragedy has occurred in the west boundaries of our country. Caused by both natural hazards and human made. Floods and crops dieing, a small outcast of mountain thieves, and an outrageously biased lord. And I have been thinking for a while. What could be the best solution to all this treachery? And your names came up, my dear brother and uncle."

Realising what he was up to, both Bowie and Joe's eyes widened with horror.

Raymond carried on after carefully observing the shock in the two¡¯s face. "You two are well known to our country. Especial you my brother, from defeating the riot in the north a while ago. You two are practically heroes. So, I thought that it would be best if you two went and sorted this mess out. And what is most important is that I trust you two will not make me disappointed."

Bowie opened his mouth to protest, but was stopped by Joe.

"We will do our best and guarantee your majesty that peace will be brought to the west as soon as we get there." Joe said, bowing a little whilst still sitting down. "And I believe tomorrow would be best to set off with all the trouble in the west."

Once again, Bowie was shocked by the words coming out of Joe's mouth. He couldn't believe he had just accepted the misery Raymond had given them. Raymond and the others were a little surprised that Joe had accepted without hesitation. Raymond smiled, thinking that the two did not want anymore trouble.

"Well, I did think of a few days later, but if you insist. We will be there to see you off tomorrow." Raymond said.

Time passed quickly, Raymond and the rest saw Bowie and Joe off and were enjoying peace and quiet in the royal gardens with their prince guest.

"It is as if it has been raining for days and today is a new beginning of time." Tavia said smiling and hooked herself to Raymond.

"My dear sister. You have to act more like a queen and stop hanging onto Raymond like that. Even though you two are married, it is still not so good if anyone sees you like that. Especially in front of Alec." During the dinner last night, they had started referng each other with their first names.

Alec was like a friend they had met from a long time ago. They told him their stories on how they met and some of their backgrounds. Alec was more than happy to share his stories too. He was on to the Mongolian legend of the goddesses of love and peace when Leila, as if understanding something, clapped her hands tight.

"Oh! I get it now. No wonder why you were staring at us like that when we first met." Leila said acknowledging.

"I am sorry if I seemed rude, but you two really did look like the goddesses from the picture carvings." Alec apologised.

They talked and talked until a certain someone surprised them with a sword through Raymond's back.
