everyone was silent for a moment as everyone's mind was clouded with thoughts. they struggled to comprehend what the other party was thinking, what his intentions are, what is he planning to do next. and what does "im getting nearer mean?" was this all a prank? just a practical joke, which in time will be laughed off, when the person reveals himself? but stabbing someone is no practical joke. questions shrouded their rationality, answers seem distant.
Selina(resignedly) : its pointless thinking about it, lets just try to do something we are certain, and that is to wake Hebe up.
Jay : Yeah, i agree.
the next following days, were days of eager anticipation, after what the doctor had said regarding Hebe's condition, whereby she would wake up anytime soon. every day, unlike the previous weeks where resignation and a slight glimmer of hope were registered on their faces when they visited Hebe, was now replaced by faces, brightened with the prospect of hope, happiness. they had bonded closer with each other, after Hebe's accident.
Jay(acting cute) : Selinaaaaa.. what woulld uu like to eat??
Selina(acting cute back) : I would like... you!
Jay : Uhh.. how would u like it?
Selina : Hmm, fried!
Jay : No wonder.. *looks at Selina's stotmach
Selina(defensively) : What! NO!
Jay(cheekily) : Haha, Just kidding!
Selina : *pinches Jay's nose
They start tickling one another on the sofa in Hebe's ward, with laughter and exictement spilling forth. after a short while, tired out from the "workout", their gazes were transfixed on each other's eyes. they fell into each other's arms. whispering words of love and eternity into each other's ears.
Selina : ok, thats enough.. what shall we eat for lunch?
Jay : How about.. i dont know. you choose!
Selina : Hah! i dont know!
Jay : ah.. i shall go down to the cafetaria and see what can i get.
Selina : Okay.. see you later.. bubbye!
Jay(smiling) : bubbyez.
As Jay went out of the door, the room was suddenly very quiet. unlike previously where she would be overwhelmed by emotions, she felt happy, this time. usually she would sit on the chair beside Hebe and talk to her, pleading with her to wake up. this time, she tried something different.. she leaned over, and kissed Hebe on the cheek.
Selina(whispering) : Hebe! we all miss you, when will you ever wake up. i miss chatting with you so much.
Selina : i can still remember that time, when u told me what you honest opinion of me was, that rich people was haughty and all those stuff. i guess, that really changed me. i was slightly inclined towards that, but as i contemplated whether to be more helpful in the community, i was always reminded of what u said. i hope u can wake up, and we can spend more time together! i havent even went shopping with you before, go to your house. lie on your bed. you only been to mine, u still owe me a return trip!
sastified with all that she had said, Selina sat back down, staring at Hebe's sleeping figure. as she herself, feeling rather tired, drifted off.
"Selina.. Selina.."
"Selina.."
Selina heard someone calling her name, but yet was so soft, she thought she was too stressed, and that she was just dreaming.
"Selina.."
there was certainly someone calling her name. oblivious to how much time had pass since she had parted with Jay, she opened her eyes, only to be greeted by a look, by a familar face. that person's big round eyes were staring into her eyes.
Selina : Hebe! you are awake!
Selina : oh my gosh! *she rushed over to hug her
Selina : wait, i'll call the doctor to come in.
Hebe(weakly) : no.. dont call the doctor..
Selina : Why?
Hebe : I dont wanna be disturbed immediately when i wake up...
Selina(understanding) : Ok..
Hebe : I heard everything you guys said while i was sleeping. wheres my wallet?
Selina : I'll get it for you.
After Selina handed the wallet to Hebe, she digged into her wallet for awhile, and fished out 2 earrings. it was the pledge of friendship between them. on seeing the earrings, Selina nearly broke down again.
Hebe : Dont cry, Selina.
Hebe : you've cried enough. cheer up! i'm awake now..
Selina(sniffing) : alright, i wont cry anymore. *flashes a smile.
Hebe : *flashes a weak smile back
Hebe : Hows my dad?
Selina : Hes.. hes fine.. *sniff
Hebe(swallows) : Selina, would it be possible for you to buy me some almond jelly dessert?
Selina : but.. you just woke up! i need to ask the doctor!
Hebe : Its for my dad. he loves it.
Selina : You are such a filial daughter...
[on the phone]
Selina : Jay! could you go buy some almond jelly dessert from the coffeeshop near Hebe's house?
Jay : Why? i'm on the way back now.
Selina : can u please go buy some?
Jay : Serious? cannot do without?
Selina : cannot! go get it!
Jay : why that coffeeshop anyway. its very far from here!
Selina : Please! Please! Please! i've got my reasons!
Jay : ah.. Ok..
[back in the ward]
Selina : hah! done! you can await the arrival of the dessert soon!
Hebe : ok.. thanks. can u call the doctor? i want to visit my dad and give him a surprise.
Selina : Sure!
