LH : Yeah, Why
Jay : come on, I wanted to keep it as a surprise.
Show : come on, you were just being selfish
Jay(changing the topic) : why did u both heave a sigh of relief when I said Selina?
Jay : I bet…
Show : Jay, don’t spout nonsense
LH : Anyhow say and I will kick your ass.
Jay : Fine.. *self-opinionated look*
[Parents Side]
Hebe’s Dad : I wonder what they are talking about, I cannot hear anything
Hebe’s Mom : I wish I knew.. kids these days..
Hebe’s Dad : are all so playful..
Hebe’s Mom : Some are thoughtful. Like Selina.
Hebe’s Dad : Ah.. yea we need to repay her sometime. Lets ask Hebe to invite her over for dinner.
Hebe’s Mom : Sure, I’ll be the one cooking then!
Hebe’s Dad : Its settled then!
Hebe’s Mom : *wrinkled smile
[Girl’s Side]
Selina : I.. I was shy.. I was afraid of being laughed at, I was afraid of losing the both of you.
All of a sudden, the riotous atmosphere changed. In stark contrast to a few seconds earlier, it was changed into a form of solitary silence, Ella and Hebe stood there with their mouth agape, not knowing what to say.
[A brief pause]
Ella : But why?
Hebe : We are your friends… we will not laugh at you. Ever.
Ella : Yeah Selina, don’t worry about that, we wont ever laugh at you, * Flashes a smile.
Selina(solemnly) : can you guys promise me something?
Ella(happily) : Anything for you Selina!
Selina : Promise me that no matter what happens, you guys will never leave me alone, and care for me.
Ella(taken aback) : Selina…
Hebe(bravely) : Selina, no matter what happens, I will never you alone and will always care for you as you had done with me. On top of that, I will be there for you whenever you need me. Drop by my house If u need a place to stay, drop me a call if u need someone to talk to.
Selina(nearing tears) : You mean it?
Hebe(staring into Selina’s face) : Yes.
Ella : Hebe… I didn’t know.
Ella never expected Hebe who was the most reserved person among them, to say such sincere and pure words directly from her heart. It was almost like.. a confession.
Selina : Thank you Hebe, *hugs Hebe and starts to cry.
Ella : I will too, Selina.
As the trio huddled together for a friendship hug, a pure, angelic, sincere group hug. Immediately, it drew the attention of all the others in the room.
Hebe’s Dad : Aww, that’s just so sweet.
Hebe’s Mom : Glad Hebe have at last found herself some very good friends to rely on.
Hebe’s Dad : yeah she deserves it.
Hebe’s Mom : I was always worried about her being a introvert and all.. but after this…
LH(cheekily) : Wanna have a group hug too?
Show : NO!
LH : Why?
Show : Its not right, and unethical.
LH : What’s wrong? Why when a girl hugs another girl it is ok, but when a guy hugs another guy its considered as gay?
Jay(thoughtfully) : Because girls are more sentimental and emotional?
Show : Yeah, I agree.
LH : Ok, ok, I was just kidding, need you guys take it so seriously?
Jay : Dude, you sounded so serious.
Show : yeah…
LH : …….
[Next Day]
Doctor : Alright, Hebe you may leave now, Good luck with whatever you do!
Hebe : Thanks doc!
The rest of the people were not here primarily, because they had school, and Hebe had brought forward her discharge time from 3 PM to 10AM, hence none of them knew, and would be present, unless they skipped school. As Hebe looked around the room, she had felt a pang of emptiness. The room was now filled with the Heart-wrenching feelings of her loved ones and friends as they stood there, sat here, albeit uselessly hoping for a miracle that she would wake up. But yet was filled with Happiness beyond measure about the time spent with Selina on the day she woke up. It was only an hour, yet the memories she had of it, was very deep. With a last look, she strode out of the door, only to be greeted by a very familiar face.
Hebe(shocked) : Selina?!
Selina(gleefully) : Shocked?
Hebe(cant believe it) : What are you doing here?
Selina : Well, I decided to bring you home! *takes Hebe’s bag from her.
Hebe : Don’t you have school to attend?
Selina : well yes…
Hebe : you skipped school didn’t you?
Selina : yah..
Hebe(angrily) : Why!
Hebe was always angry at anyone who skipped school unless for genuine reason like sickness, she felt that school fees were so expensive and if not for really cannot go, everyone should attend school.
Selina(quietly) : because.. I wanted to accompany you..
Selina : although you don’t wanna admit it, I know you be feeling forlorn and sad about leaving this place. I know you want us to pick you up, but yet is scared of a crowd, so, I came alone, and I knew you would discharge yourself earlier to avoid a crowd.
[Hebe was silent] – the frown on her face was slowly fading away
Selina : Hebe, we are friends aint we?
Hebe ( emotionally ) : Selina you know me so well.. *rushes forward to hug Selina.
Selina put the bag down, and returned the hug. The hug which symbolizes their friendship, seemed to last a eternity, as they both were cosy, and felt warm in each other’s arms. They felt that they knew each other for decades, yet they barely knew each other for 2 months. Yet, their friendship will be put to the trial in time to come.
[A short while]
Selina(cheerfully) : Lets go then!
Hebe(surprised) : Where?
Selina : home of course silly! *hits Hebe lightly on the head.
They flagged a cab outside the hospital and directed them to Hebe’s house which was in the Toa Payoh district.
[Below’s Hebe’s block]
Hebe : Selina, thanks for everything. I think I have to go up to start my revision, the paper’s in a month and I need to go look for a job, and I missed 3 weeks of lessons.
Hebe : I guess its farewell here, and thanks for sending me back.
Selina : *stopping to think
As Hebe turned to leave, Selina intervened.
Selina : Hebe!
Hebe : Yes?
Selina : can I go into your house?
Hebe : Uh.. I’ve gotta study..
Selina : Please? *puppy eyes.
Hebe : Ah.. Okay.. sure then..
With that, Selina grabbed hold of Hebe’s hand, as they both skipped towards the flight of stairs at the bottom of Hebe’s block as her block did not have any lift access to the 3rd floor. They went up the stairs together, hand in hand albeit giggles and laughs.
