Ella(concerned) : Hey, do u guys know why isn’t Selina in school today?
Show(logically) : Maybe, she’s not feeling well?
Jay : Hmm, she messaged me in the morning saying she wont attend school today, but she never said why.
LH : Hmm, maybe.. but didn’t we arrange to go and pick Hebe up together from the hospital later today?
Ella : She must be feeling really terrible, for her to miss this. I will give her a call.
Jay : Sure, get back to us when after u call finish yeah.
[ On the phone ]
Ella(loudly) : Hello, is that Selina?
Selina : Yes, Ella?
Ella : What happened? why are you not in school today?
Selina(softly) : I went to the hospital.
Ella : What? I cant hear you, hold on while I get to some where less noisy.
[ On the Stairs ]
Hebe : Who’s that?
Selina cupped the speaker of the phone and replied to Hebe, with 1 hand holding the phone and the other covering the speaker.
Selina : It’s Ella.
Selina : want me to invite her over?
Hebe : Sure.. but tell her to come after school ke?
Selina : Hmm, Okay
[ Back to the phone ]
Ella : Ah, much more quiet here. What did you say just now?
Selina : I said, that I went to the hospital!
Ella : Why? What happened? are you alright?
Ella suddenly heard a little bit of giggling in the background.
Ella : Wait. That does not sound like your giggle. Are you with someone?
Selina : Yeah! I’m with my good friend.
Ella : Who’s that? And why did u go to the hospital.
Selina : I think I can answer both together.
Ella : what do u mean?
Selina : Hebe!
Ella : Huh? Hebe’s with you now?
Selina : Yupp!
Ella : I thought she would be discharged at 3? How come its been brought forward?
Again, Ella heard another giggle coming from the background. She thought to herself that nothing was really funny and that Hebe actually avoided them, she felt a tinge of anger.
Ella : Is Hebe trying to avoid us?
Selina : No, Haha
Ella : Then? Why did she come out so early?
Hebe : Cause I was sick of the hospital and wanted to go home and see my dad earlier?
It was then, Ella realized why Hebe was giggling. It was because Selina’s phone was on the loud speaker, and they both could hear every single word exchanged, it was of little surprise that Hebe would have giggled, judging by the tone of Ella’s voice a moment ago, anyone being the subject of enquiry would be laughing..
Ella : Why didn’t u tell us?
Hebe : Cause you guys have class to attend?
Ella : And Selina?
Hebe : She came on her own. I did not tell her…
Ella : friends are more important than a day in class don’t u think?
Hebe : That’s what I feared! That’s why I did not tell you guys! *pulls a cute face.
Selina : *starts giggling
Ella : What are you giggling at now Selina?
Selina : You should have seen Hebe’s face a moment ago! She was like… so cute!
Ella : Hmm, where are you girls now?
Selina : Hehe, somewhere you and I have never been to before.
Ella : Huh?
Selina : Guess?
Ella : Umm..
[ Thinks for 5 seconds ]
Selina : give up?
Ella : Yeah.. I cant think of anywhere I’ve never been before, and you too? That’s like very unlikely.
Selina : Well, theres one place, and that’s Hebe’s house!
Ella : What!? I’ve always wanted to go to Hebe’s house!
Ella(impatiently) : Where is it?
After Selina gave Ella instructions as to how to get to Hebe’s unit, without a doubt, Ella indeed immediately cut the line, leaving Selina there wondering what just had happened.
Selina : Why did she cut the line?
Hebe(sadly) : Shes coming over now.
Selina : Really? Then u should be happy! Why are u sad?
Hebe : cause I just made my friend skip school, to come to my house.
Selina : Hebe, you need to loosen up! Such things, are just fun things! Enjoy your youth Hebe!
Hebe : Maybe.. I guess you are right…
Selina : Alright, lets go in!
Hebe : Wait, Selina message Ella not to bring anyone else.
Selina : okay! Im on it.
After climbing up the last flight of stairs which would bring them to the 3rd floor, Hebe immediately quickened her steps and flashed a hand gesture of “follow me” to Selina, unquestioningly, Selina kept quiet and followed. On reaching her unit, Hebe took out her key and slowly opened the door, and took a peek into the house. She saw her father still in a cast, sitting on the sofa, enjoying the show on tv. She guessed that her mother had already went to work. Both side of Hebe’s lips went up as she flung the door open with ceaseless effort, and crashing it against the wall. Even Selina was taken aback by this gesture.
Hebe : Hi dad!
Hebe’s Dad : How many times have I told you not to open the door so hard?
Hebe : Hehehe..
Hebe’s Dad : wait why are u out so early? And wheres your bag?
Hebe : With her!
Hebe said as she peered over to the doorway, where Selina was standing there, with Hebe’s bag in hand.
Hebe’s Dad(exclaims) : Hi Selina! What brings you here! That Hebe, shold not have asked you to carry her bag for her.
Selina : Nah, its ok uncle.
Hebe’s Dad : Come on in, don’t stand at the door.. come in!
As Selina was visibly reluctant and uncomfortable, Hebe went over to her, and held her with both hands and led her to where her father was sitting to a nearby sofa armchair. As Selina settled down, Hebe went off to the kitchen, to fetch some drinks.
Hebe’s Dad : I never really had a chance to thank you for all you have done for my family…
Selina : Nah, uncle it was a pleasure.
Hebe’s Dad : Still, its such a huge favor u had done for our family, and the least we could do is to give you a proper thank-you meal.
Selina : Nah, uncle, there is really no need.
At this moment, Hebe who had overheard the conversation, entered the living room with a cup of water for her dad, and orange juice for Selina. As she passed the cup to Selina, she suddenly felt a connection between herself and Selina. At once, she shouted
Selina(simultaneously) : No pulp?
Hebe(simultaneously) : No Pulp!
They both then erupt in uncontrollable laughter, with Hebe’s dad, looking lost. After a short while of laughing, the laughter died down.
Hebe’s Dad : Hebe, I entrust you with a task today…
Hebe : What task?
Hebe’s Dad : Get Selina to stay for dinner tonight.
Selina : Its really ok…
Hebe : Uhh.. sure! *winks at Selina.
Hebe(Sweetly) : anything else?
Hebe’s Dad : Nope, go in and enjoy yourselves!
Hebe : I’ll be going to my room then with Selina!
Selina : bye uncle, see you later.
As they left, Hebe’s Dad immediately took out his handphone, and text a message to his wife. It read “ Selina’s staying over for dinner. Buy some special food to cook! Thanks!”
Selina and Hebe made their way into Hebe’s room, it was a rather small room, and was sparsely furnished, one look and anyone could tell that Hebe came from a poor family, as she was still using a mattress. It was furnished with A study table, a chair, a book shelf and a fan. Yet, everything in this room looked so new, as though it was just bought yesterday. And everything else was so tidy. The walls were a light blue shade, with old posters of Faye Wong, Jacky Cheung, Eason Chan and Andy Lau being spread across everywhere.
Selina(in admiration) : Wow, what a tidy room.. this is like 5 times more tidy than my room at home.
Hebe(pleased) : Thanks
Selina : How old is everything here?
Hebe : Oh, everythings like 15 years old.
Selina : So old!?
Hebe : Yup, it was here since we moved in here.
Selina : Ah… you can make such old things look so new...
Selina : Hmm, that’s a lot of books you have there…
On closer look, Selina realized that most of it was all library books. Immediately Selina face changed. She was angry, she wanted a explanation from Hebe. Did she steal it?
Hebe(understanding) : Relax Selina, the books are…
Selina(flaring) : How do you have so many library books?
Hebe : Well, I borrowed them..
Selina : You want me to believe that?
She flips out a random book and realized that the book borrow date was about 3 months ago.
Selina : Whats this? You can borrow for 3 months?
Hebe : I…
Selina : Are you a thief?
