“Hey, can you two turn it down a little? Its very noisy, can you girls be more considerate?”
“Huh.. we are sorry…”
the black hair girl apologized as she turned around, and immediately turned back and continued the conversation she was having until Ella interrupted. Ella couldn’t help but overhearing a few sentences.
“Haha! What do you think Ella is doing now?” the black hair girl asked
“Should be playing basketball with LH, why?” the golden hair girl replied
“I wish she was here with us!” the black hair girl exclaimed
“Why? Am I not enough?” the golden girl replied making a slight face
Ella realized that she might be just adjacent to Hebe and Selina without realizing it. She decided to get up and walk over to the next table to see if what she was thinking was true. She stood up from the table she had, and strode over to the next table. As she peered down at the black hair girl, and simultaneously the black hair girl looked up, they both let out a gasp.
“Hebe, whats wrong?” Selina asked on hearing the sudden gasp.
“It’s.. El.. Ella!” Hebe stammered for a moment.
“What?” Selina exclaimed as she hurried over to Hebe’s side to take a look at the person’s face.
“Hi! I heard you were wishing I was here with you?” Ella teased Hebe.
“Uh… well.. yeah..”
“May I take a seat?”
“Sure!” Selina offered.
as they continued their chat, with the exclusion of LH, LH was shocked to come back with drinks, only to realize that Ella was at Hebe’s and Selina’s table chatting merrily. What he had feared, had come true. Resigning himself to fate, as Show and Jay had told him to, he walked over to their table, gave Ella her milkshake and left the premises rather quietly.
“what has gotten into him?” Ella wondered outloud.
“we will never understand guys..” Selina replied, rather thoughtfully.
“apparently..”
The day passed by pretty quickly, and it was Friday the next day. After school, when everyone was arranging to go out and enjoy themselves, with the exception of Show, who was going to work, Hebe slipped off after school, nobody knew where did she go. Not even Selina knew. Jay and LH was relieved to a certain extent, as they saw their “competitor” gone from the scene, as Selina and Ella was not very close on the whole, it was Hebe who brought them together, they could at last spend a proper day with the girl they liked. It was especially sweet for Jay and Selina, as they went shopping all over, laughing eating and basically having fun. Over at Ella’s and LH side, they just played basketball with each other, and settled down for a hearty dinner after the rigor. Over in a certain shopping center, which was ironically situated beside Selina’s house, Hebe was attending class in one of the units there. The class, was a more physical type, it was a Kungfu class. Ever since she met with a mishap, she had been encouraged by her parents go pick up Kungfu to protect herself.
Week after week passed by, with Hebe disappearing on all Fridays, without telling anyone, at first, they though Hebe was left behind as they walked out of school or forgot to turn up for their usual after school chat. However, as the disappearances happened with an alarming regularity, Selina decided to confront Hebe about her disappearances.
“Hebe...” Selina started eyes fixed on Hebe.
It was the 3 of them, Selina, Hebe and Ella, they were eating together at a coffeeshop near Hebe’s house, as they were intending to go up after their meal for a chill-out session and study session.
“Yes?” Hebe replied without looking up from her bowl of noodles.
“Look at me.” Selina said in a rather cold manner.
Hebe did as she was told, as she stared blankly at Selina’s face, which was carrying a tale of heaviness. At this moment, Ella sensing something serious was going on, stopped eating and looked up.
“Can you tell us here, honestly where do you go every Friday? We are as close as sisters, maybe even closer, don’t lie to us.” Selina blurted it out.
“Uh.. I went for class.”
“What kind?” Selina asked, still very coldly.
Unable to bear that gaze of Selina, Hebe immediately confessed. She told her everything her parents had told her.. Immediately, the tone in Selina’s voice changed. It was now full of shock and admiration for someone she had thought was protected, never meant to protect someone else.
“Wow.. Hebe..” Selina began after Hebe’s explanation.
“I never knew..” Ella Added.
“Well, now you guys know, don’t have to tell the rest ok? Just make it seem that I disappeared.” Hebe said as she let out a small laugh.
“Alright.”
The “disappearances” went on for about another 2 more months, and finally stopped when Hebe had finished her duration of the course. Nobody really minded, since Ella and Selina knew, and Show going to work, and Jay and LH was actually happy at her absence. When she finally stopped her course, her arms were much more toned than before, as she looked more stunning than previously. It was little wonder that she was the talk of the school, as those who had shunned her previously, now admired her. Hebe was a very popular figure in school, but yet still maintained her small group or rather 2 close friends only. It was not that she was haughty or anything, just that she was a rather introvert.
Exams were round the corner… as everyone began.. to start studying…
