As exams were nearing, they decided to shelf relationships aside, as Selina met up with Jay much less often, Ella meeting up with LH much less often, but well, Hebe and Show was still pretty much the same, rather nonchalant to each other at times. On those days Hebe weren’t working, Selina and Ella would make their way into Hebe’s house on a regular basis to do their revision there.
Hebe’s parents were never in, as they had to work, and even though Hebe told them, they never did mind, as all they wanted was for Hebe to be happy, and do well in school.
“How do you do this question?” Selina asked, placing the book in the middle of the bed on top of both Hebe’s and Ella’s books.
“What?” Ella let out rather irritatedly, after she turned, and her geography notes now announced Sin2X + Sin3Y – Cot80 = Cosec40.
Hebe smiled amusedly, when she realized what had Selina done. She gave a slight giggle, as she proceeded to explain to Selina how it could be done. At the end of it, Selina let out a heave of relief and thanks
“Phew! Thanks Hebe! This Maths is really.. so hard!”
“Haha, Yeah! Its really so hard to study for this topic. Trigonometry!” Hebe replied giving a most sincere smile.
Hebe realized that Selina and Ella was looking at each other with intent in their eyes, sensing something was wrong, she immediately sat back from the bed, and just as she was about to excuse herself and get some water, she immediately found herself lying flat on her bed. Her soft velvety hair caressed her pillow as her head landed directly on top of it. She closed her eyes and wished that she was dreaming, and not that her two close friends had actually pushed her.
“Why did she close her eyes when we pushed her?” Selina thought aloud
“Maybe because she thought we didn’t like her?” Ella replied.
“Haha, how can that be possible?”
“I really think so, look at that expression on her face, she looks like in disbelief.”
“Oh my gosh! You are right!” Selina exclaimed
Nudging Hebe, Selina and Ella peered down at Hebe’s face, of which they was expecting a response, a movement, or at least opening of her eyes. When Hebe did open her eyes, she was greeted by two pairs of curious eyes, of which their owners wore a worried expression. She blinked twice, as she struggled to come to terms with what had happened.
“Hebe, we pushed you not because of what you think it is!”
“You see, Hebe, we wanted to ask you some questions, and what better way to do it then leaving you at our mercy?” Ella flashed a slight smile which bore a mark of sadism.
“Huh?” Hebe replied, with facial expressions becoming back to normal.
With that reassuring look on Hebe’s face, Ella’s and Selina’s faces now bore a smile instead of what was previously a concerned look, in a split second, it became cheeky, Hebe immediately sensed a barrage of questions, as she dived under her pillow, with only her hair left visible of her.
“Hebe...” Selina shooked her
Suddenly, Hebe found her pillow gone, as she looked up she saw Ella sitting beside her, with pillow in her hand, smiling insanely
“Hebe! Tell us honestly, Do you notice that someone likes you very much?” Selina quipped albeit with a very cheeky smile
“No?” Hebe replied, looking very innocent.
“Haha, Selina, Hebe can act really well!” Ella remarked noting that innocent expression
“Yup. Looks like we need to go through the list!” Selina replied
“Uh.. because it’s the truth? There is no need to act here..” Hebe interrupted.
“Ok, Question number 2!” Selina remarked happily
“This is a conspiracy, they even prepared a list!” Hebe moaned to herself
“Ok, Do you like anyone? Even if it is a crush or just a slight feeling?”
“Yes.” Hebe replied.
“Who?” Ella asked, jumping up becoming very exicted
“You…” Hebe said as she pinched Ella’s nose.
“What?”
Immediately both Hebe and Selina broke into uncontrollable giggles, with only Ella looking stunned, as if she thought Hebe meant it.
“Oh come on, Ella… I was just kidding!” Hebe remarked inbetween giggles.
“You better be…” Ella replied solemnly, the look on her face, not her usual self, was very stern, but still bore a smile.
Immediately both Selina and Hebe erupted into further laughter, leaving Ella once again to wonder what was happening.
“What?” Ella demanded to know
Hebe then took out a pocket mirror from her nearby bag, and when Ella saw herself bearing a smile even when she was supposed to look serious, she couldn’t control herself, but to laugh even at herself!
“Okok.. Ella that’s enough. Lets carry on with our little interrogation”
“Alright…”
“Question number 3!” Selina declared
“Since both your previous answers were no, did you know that actually one of the people we are close to likes you?” Ella probed
“Who? You?”
Selina broke into giggles once again, but Ella face remained constant. As though she was the grim reaper, she did not even flinch when both Hebe and Selina were laughing so heartily.
“Hebe.. You got a big problem...” Ella spoke, with a solemnity in her voice.
“Hmm, what is it?” Hebe had calmed herself down sufficiently to give a mature reply.
“Selina.. please go ahead and tell her.”
“What me? We agreed it would be you!”
“Please?”
“Alright! Who asked me to promise him…” Ella replied resignedly
“Hebe, did you know that Show likes you?”
“WHAT?”
the reaction was explosive, it was as though a dynamite had suddenly exploded, leaving behind a trace of devastation. Hebe’s expression however was disbelief and she was utterly shocked.
“You serious?” Hebe asked looking very serious
“Yes.”
“What does he likes about me? Did he even do much for me in my coma?”
“Actually no not really” Selina replied honestly
“Hebe, Show is feeling really down because of this, and I hate to see my friends so depressed, go have a talk with him when you have time will you?”
“Must I really do it? I’m totally not interested in him…”
“Please?” Selina added, with what was now her trademark puppy eyes, which time after time again had taken away the “No” that Hebe was about to speak.
“Ah… Okay.. just for you two. Not for him…”
“Thanks Hebe!” Ella replied cheerfully.
“Yeah!” Selina said as she gave Ella a high-five in the air.
“Mission accomplished!”
“Woohoo!”
Hebe shook her head, coming to terms with what was known to her as common behavior of her close friends. Study break was now on, for a single week until the final exams for their year in the university, as the trio decided to mug for the next week, so that they can at last relax and go realize their dreams, or rather the route to their dream. With that, they immersed themselves in the books
