Chapter 29

A Sudden Urge

Chapter 29 | A Sudden Urge

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

“Ron, should I get him this fruit basket or the wine?” Tavia asked for Ron’s opinion but he didn’t seem to care at all. He was, instead, playing with his cell-phone. Tavia inhaled deeply and walked up to him, poking him on the arm. “Ron Ng!”

“Hmm?” Ron asked, his eyes still focused onto the tiny screen.

“Ron,” Tavia frowned, narrowing her eyes at him as she gave him a light pinch. He yelped and instantly closed his hand-phone.

“Yes, Tavia?” Ron asked, rubbing the spot where she had hurt him.

“What should I get Uncle?” Tavia repeated her question as Ron pondered for a minute.

“Anything,” Ron replied with a shrug. Tavia gave him a stern look and he threw up his hands in defeat. Honestly, he did not want to go at all, but Tavia had insisted so, he did. “Uh..the fruit basket. It’s more healthy.”

“Okay,” she nodded her had as she placed down the wine bottle and made her way to the cashier with Ron following behind. After paying, Tavia and Ron headed out and made their way to Bosco’s place.

“Be polite when you get there,” Tavia scolded as Ron pointed to himself, aghast.

“What? Are you saying I’m not polite?” Ron demanded with a pout.

“Well,” Tavia said as they entered the elevator and pressed onto Bosco’s floor.

“Well...”

“Oh! We’re here!” She ignored him, exited the elevator and walked up to Bosco’s door, pressing on the doorbell. A few seconds later, the door sprung open to reveal a very happy looking Paul until he saw Ron, that is. A frown appear on his face as he furrowed his brows at Ron. Of course, Ron notices it and was feeling quite irritated. “Hi, Uncle. This is for you from the both of us!” Tavia said although it was her who did most of the work and all Ron did was play with his phone.

“Thank-you! You didn’t have to!” Paul smiled brightly at Tavia as he ushered her in, totally forgetting about Ron or maybe he was ignoring the guy. “You’re just on time for dinner! Come, have a seat!” Paul cried, pushing Tavia forward and sat her down. “BOSCO,” he emphasized his son’s name, glancing at Ron. “Is in the kitchen. Oh, look! Here they are!” As if on cue, the siblings walked out of the kitchen. Bosco was carrying a bowl of soup while Natalie set down the rice.

“Hi, Tavia and umm, Ron?” Bosco asked with uncertainty as Tavia nodded her head.

“Oh, looks good!” Ron smiled as he started to drool, sniffing in its aroma. He was about to seat himself down onto the seat next to Tavia when Paul suddenly jumped in and pulled him aside. Ron was surprised, having no idea what was going on.

“You can sit here,” directed Paul as he shoved Ron into the seat, opposite from Tavia. Ron was speechless. “Great! Let’s eat, let’s eat!” he shouted but not before seating Bosco down, next to Tavia. Selena chuckled silently at her father’s desperate action before sitting beside Ron. “Be my guest! Eat more, Tavia!” Paul said as he picked up a piece of meat and placed it into Tavia’s bowl. She thanked him as Ron studied Paul, suspicious and annoyed. “You too, Bosco!” Paul scolded.

“Me?” Bosco asked, stunned.

“Yes, you need to eat more in order to protect Tavia from...” Paul said as his eyes glanced over at Ron. “Rascals,” he said softly but was loud enough for Bosco and Ron to hear. Ron was, quite frankly, offended. He felt like dumping this bowl of soup on top of Paul.

“Uh,” Bosco stuttered, he knew exactly what the message behind his father’s words were so he tried to change the topic. “What do you guys think? Is it good?” Bosco asked Ron and Tavia though he was more interested in Tavia’s opinion.

“Gor cooked everything tonight!” Selena proudly announced.

Nervously, Bosco replied, “I’m not as good as my dad though.”

“What are you talking about? At least you know how to cook!” Paul mumbled which seemed like it was directing to Ron.

“How do you know that I don’t know how to cook?” Ron asked, he was fed up though it was sort of the truth that he, in fact, did not know how to cook. Tavia’s eyes widened at Ron’s outburst and gave him a hard kick, under the table. Ron bit his lips back to suppress the pain as he shot Tavia a look that said ‘what was that for’.

“You’re right, Uncle. He doesn’t know how to cook,” Tavia laughed.

Bosco coughed, “Let’s eat before the food gets cold!”

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

“You don’t have to help me out,” Paul said as he watched Tavia while she was washing the dishes and he was preparing the fruits. “Let me do it. You’re the guest.”

“No, I should,” Tavia insisted while shaking her head. “Plus, I’m almost done,” she said as rinsed the last utensil before placing it into the drying rack. Giving her hands a wash, she then decided to help Paul with the fruits. Paul smiled in satisfaction, thinking of what a great daughter-in-law Tavia must be. He was laughing whole-heartedly at the thought of Tavia as his future daughter-in-law. He would no longer need to worry about Bosco.

“Tavia, have you ever thought of getting married?” Tavia nearly choked on her saliva for she have never given the idea of settling down a second thought.

“I...”

“It would be great to have you as a daughter in law,” Paul bluntly said, examining Tavia for any reaction as she was slightly turning red.

“Uhh..I..err...I’ll go call them,” she mumbled before quickly escaping from further questioning. Once outside, Tavia heaved a sigh of relief and wiped away her imaginary sweat. Walking over to Ron and Selena, who seems to be getting along quite well, she tapped on Ron for his attention. “The fruits are ready in the kitchen,” she explained as Selena got up and ran into the kitchen, pulling Ron along with her. Glad that she was not going to be alone with Paul, Tavia was about to head back into the kitchen when she realized that she hadn’t told Bosco. Slowly walking over through the hall, she looked for any signs of Bosco. Tavia spotted a door that was slightly ajar and caught sight of Bosco. There was a smile plastered across his face as he was looking down at what looked like a photo frame. Knocking on his door, Tavia asked for permission to enter as Bosco looked up and smiled.

“Hey,” Tavia greeted. “What were you looking at?”

“Uh, nothing,” Bosco said, quickly hiding the photo underneath his pillow. Not believing him, Tavia edged closer towards him while attempting to look scary.

“Were you looking at pornographic?” she joked, feigning disgust.

“NO!” Bosco strongly denied. “I was just looking at the photos we took at Ocean Park,” he admitted.

Sitting down beside him, Tavia laughed, “I was just joking but look at your scared expression! Really? Let me join you.” Bosco hesitated but nodded his head and reached under the pillow for the photos.

“Woah..you framed it?” Tavia asked, quite surprised.

“Er..yeah,” Bosco mumbled.

Tavia laughed as her eyes was fixated upon a photo where they were doing funny poses. Bosco shuffled closer to take a look at what she was laughing about as he too, bursted out into laughter when he saw the ridiculous photo.

“You look...distorted!” she giggled, pointing to his face.

“Hey, you don’t look any better!” Bosco defended himself. “I like this one,” Bosco said as he pointed to a photo where Tavia was clutching tightly onto Pooh bear – the one that he had won for her.

“Me too,” she agreed. Bosco’s heart tripled its speed upon realizing their close proximity to each other. Unknowingly, he started studying her side profile with a small smile on his face. “This one is okay, don’t you think?” Tavia continued but didn’t receive any reply in return. Curious as to why Bosco was so silent, Tavia turned to look at him – they were too close for Tavia’s comfort. “B-Bosco...”

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

“Mmm? Where’s Tavia?” Ron wondered as he poked this head through the kitchen’s doorway to see if Tavia was still out there – she wasn’t. Paul and Selena turned to Ron upon hearing his speculation. Indeed, Tavia was not in the living room. As Paul and Selena exchanged knowing glances, they scurried off to Bosco’s room. Ron raised his eyebrows, wondering what the father and daughter was up to as he decided to follow after them.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Bosco’s eyes trailed down to Tavia’s lips as he suddenly leaned in closer, having the urge to kiss her. Tavia started panicking, hoping that he wouldn’t come in any closer than he already was. Tavia couldn’t find her voice as she continued to stare at Bosco with round eyes. Surprisingly at this moment, the only thing that was flashing through her mind was, Raymond’s face. Before she knew it, Bosco’s lips were on top of hers.

From outside, Paul and Selena gasped as they tried to control their excitement. They exchanged small high-fives, squealing silently to themselves. Ron shook his head at how strange they were and wanted to know what they were spying on. Looking over his shoulder, Ron’s eyes widened in shock as his mouth dropped. Clenching his fist, Ron walked ahead of Paul and Selena who as trying to stop him from ruining the perfect moment.

It was too late for Ron yelled out loud, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING, BOSCO WONG?!”

Aghast, Tavia immediately jerked away from Bosco. She bit her lips, feeling quite upset. Rushing over to Tavia’s side, Ron landed Bosco a punch as Paul and Selena shrieked, dashing over to Bosco’s aid. “Tavia, let’s go!” Ron said before pulling Tavia out the door. Bosco was still stunned as he remembered the way Tavia looked at him. He knew she was disappointed in him and he silently cursed himself for letting the situation get out of hand.

“How dare he hit Bos!” Selena yelled, helping her brother.

“That boy is no good!” Paul cried as he turned to Bosco, “I totally support you, Bosco!” His father’s words did not make it through his ears as all Bosco could do was replay the scene in his head. He suddenly felt quite ashamed of himself. Glancing up at Paul, Bosco told his father and sister that he wanted to get some rest. He ushered them out of his room and slammed it shut.

“Dad,” Selena cried while frowning. “Bosco looks upset. I’ve never seen him like that.”

Walking back out to the living room, Paul angrily said, “If only that kid didn’t come in and interrupted them!”

“Your brother really likes Tavia.”

“I know, but what can we do to help him?”

Thinking to himself for a mere second, Paul’s eyes lit up and he motioned for Selena to come in closer as he whispered his plan into her ears.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

“Not only the dad, but now the son!” Ron yelled angrily as he held onto Tavia, pulling her along with him. Stopping in his track, he turned to face Tavia and warned her, “Tavia, don’t visit them again!” Tavia didn’t say anything as they continued on; her thoughts were in a disarray.
