When Tavia finally managed to lift her eye-lids, she was not surrounded by snow nor could she feel the frosty wind slapping against her and most of all, her body temperature had returned to normal. She was no longer waiting helplessly in the bottom of the pit, but was sitting comfortable on her bed as if it never happened. Slowly, she got out and caught a glimpse of the digital clock, reading 5 AM. She frowned. How did she get back here and for how long was she asleep?
Her brows furrowed. She was waiting for Michelle to come back with help, but she never did and Tavia kept on waiting patiently. She had been so cold back in the pit and could only keep herself together for warmth. Her eyes widened. Raymond..he was there too, wasn’t he? He must’ve been because she could still feel his warm lips on hers and his arms rightly securing her body. She suddenly felt so anxious, excited yet nervous all at the same time. She wondered what was going through his mind then or even now…
Clenching nervously onto her sleeve, she quietly cross the hall to his room. Tavia hesitated to knock, sighed and decided not to. It was only 6 AM for goodness sake, he must be asleep still. Tavia spun around to return to her room, but a female voice stopped her. She recognized that voice immediately. It was Michelle’s and it was coming from Raymond’s room. She told herself to mind her own business, but gave in to temptation. Tavia lightly pressed her ears against the door.
“I did all of this because of YOU! Is this what I get? What is so good about that two face b.itch! She had nothing! She’s a fake!!! The only damn thing she’s good at is stealing other people’s belongings! Why do you love her but not me?? Are you blind? Stupid? Crazy? Wake up Raymond! She hates your guts, that Tavia Yeung doesn’t even love you! Why do you love her!? Why would you love someone like th--” Tavia’s lips parted in shock as she heard a loud, more than clear, slap. She didn’t need to figure out who slapped who, it was crystal clear. However, what caught her attention the most was not the slap, neither was it really Michelle’s true self, but the question that Michelle proposed to Raymond.
‘Her as in me?’ Tavia gulped but was bubbling inside to have heard that as her mind continuously screamed ‘he loves me, he loves me’. A wide grin crept its way onto her lips, but immediately stop when she heard Michelle’s boisterous voice.
“Fcuk you Raymond Lam!” Michelle cursed angrily.
“Leave.”
Tavia was caught by surprise when the door sprang open and Michelle facing her with fire of hatred burning in her eyes; tears were streaming down her face. She gave Tavia a glare. “What do you want?!? Are you happy?! Are you enjoying this?!?”
“No, I just--”
“I DON’T WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU, SLUT!” Michelle screamed and shoved Tavia harshly aside and stomped off. Tavia groaned aloud when her arms bumped against the edge of the doorframe. Tavia watched as Michelle walked through the elevator yet she could still feel the pair of eyes burning through her skin.
“What are you doing here?” Raymond asked in between coughs, diverting Tavia’s attention away from Michelle who was already gone. He eyed her arm and questioned casually, “You okay?”
“Uh, yeah.”
Raymond nodded and turned around while Tavia continued to stay at the entrance, deep in thoughts. “Come in if you want. If not, close the door.”
Tavia’s jaw dropped and she frowned deeply. He could still be a jerk at this time but her heart softened when she heard him cough vigorously, followed by some sneezes. “You’re not planning to stand there the whole day, are you?” His voice was hoarse.
“No.” Tavia hesitantly walked through the door and closed it behind to avoid distracting others. “Umm..” She started as he made his way back onto the bed. “Thanks,” she finally said.
He looked at her, confused.
“For..er..saving me,” Tavia agreed with her own statement.
“Shouldn’t be thanking me. The two men helped you. They were strangers.”
“WHAT? You let two strangers touch me?” Tavia blurted out and stomped over to his side.
“Yes, put you in bed as well.”
“WHAT?! HOW COULD YOU LET THEM DO THAT?! What if..what if they did something to me!” She yelped fiercely, can’t even distinguish the sarcasm in his tone of voice.
“Did they?” He questioned as she examined herself. She felt fine.
“I..don’t think so..”
“No one would willingly touch you, anyway,” he coughed.
“You can still say that while you‘re sick!” she cried.
“Done? You can leave now,” Raymond said.
Tavia bit her lips back in anger and calmed herself down, but couldn’t hold it in any longer. “I’m here to say thanks for saving my life, if you don’t like it then I’ll never appear again to annoy you. Happy?”
Tavia spun around furiously, but was only roughly pulled back by Raymond. She gasped and landed on the edge of his bed. “What do you want then?” he asks, his tone softening. Tavia looked down, unable to meet his eyes as she began to turn beet red and sweaty. She really wanted to ask if what Michelle said was true.
“Michelle..she..”
“Don’t come in contact with her. You should know better,” he warned.
“I know, but..”
“What then?” he asked before coughing some more.
Tavia stuttered, “A-about..you know..M-Michelle..said..”
“I thought I was the one who’s sick, thanks to you. You can‘t even get a whole sentence out.”
“No!” she protested. “It’s just…embarrassing to say…”
“Great, if you’re not going to say it. I’m going to sleep. Turn the lights off when you’re gone,” he directed and attempted to pull the blanket over to cover himself. Tavia took in a deep breath, gathering up her courage, grabbed the blanket and stopped it. “What now?”
Tavia cleared her throat, extremely nervous yet eager. “Don’t you have something to say to me?”
Raymond blinked at her blankly. “Like what?”
“Like..you know…that and that..you know..” she murmured, waiting impatiently for his reply.
“You need to go to the hospital for a check-up.”
“No!!!” Tavia shrieked, frustrated. “What Michelle said about you lo--ah..forget it.” She exhaled deeply and glared at the mattress with her head down, wishing it was Raymond and so she could stab it over and over again for his lack of intelligence at this time. Raymond stared at her strangely with his brows knitted together as he tried to decipher what she wanted to say. As if a light-bulb suddenly lit up inside his head, a smirk appeared on his face. Tavia softly sighed. “Have a good re--” She gasped softly in sudden surprise when Raymond pulled her into a deep kiss. Her heart only increased its pace. Tavia smiled, closed her eyes, responding to his kiss. Raymond hastily pulled away in the midst of their kiss, leaving Tavia shocked and slightly fearful as if there was something wrong or she was too much of a bad kisser. He turned away from her and started coughing vigorously, she watched in realization and somewhat, relief.
“You’re sick yet you kissed me!” she jokingly complained.
Raymond frowned. “It’s not like I can un-kiss you now.”
“I know…you get some rest first! We‘ll leave when you‘re well again,” Tavia commanded and ran out of his room before Raymond could utter out another word. She smiled to herself.
