Chapter 10

As soon as Rain enters the manor, still lost in Edison’s words, she was quickly interrupted by the commotion in the family room.

“When I say to leave the cops alone,” Chun Pui was saying, “I mean leave them alone.” Before he continued, he took notice to Rain and tuned down his frustration. “Just go,” he told his underling, whom he was yelling at.

As soon as the henchman left, Rain walked up to Chun Pui and sat down next to him, “Uncle Chun, is everything all right?”

Chun Pui, turning in opposite mood than before as he faced Rain, “Of course,” he assured, patting Rain’s hand. Then looking around, “Where’s Edison? I thought he was with you.”

“Oh, yeah, but he has some business to finish, so he couldn’t stay,” Rain explains, “he sent his regards.”

Chun Pui smiles, “Edison seems to show much concern for you,” he says knowingly.

“Really,” Rain answers, pretending to not know where Chun Pui was going.

Chun Pui then, to Rain’s surprise, sighs heavily, “Edison would definitely make a great son-in-law, and could well take over my business for me…”

Rain, listening intently, not knowing what Chun Pui was trying to say.

“But sadly, he is destined to become one of Black Market’s leader, and I do not want you to be heading down that same road,” Chun Pui explains.

“Uncle Chun,” Rain starts, but Chun Pui quickly changes the subject.

“Recently, I’ve been hearing that you’re getting along quite closely with Sergeant Lam,” Chun Pui says.

Rain, feeling awkward at Chun Pui’s knowledge of their relationship, “Yeah.”

Chun Pui knowing that Rain felt at unease, “Don’t worry, Uncle Chun isn’t that hardheaded and subborn,” he starts, lightening the atmosphere and causing Rain to smile. “It may well be a good thing if you and Sergeant Lam are together, at least that way, you can start anew.”

Rain, knowing what Chun Pui meant, “It’s really not like that,” she says, not knowing how to continue.

“Let me ask you a question,” Chun Pui helps her, “Between Edison and Raymond Lam, who would you choose?”

Rain sighs to herself, “I don’t know,” she admits, “It’s really different between them. I know Edison care about me and I truly am grateful to that,” she explains. “Raymond causes me to re-live my fears and give me a sense of security for it. But I’m not sure if this is a false sense of security.”

“But you’re willing to take a risk at the false hope,” Chun Pui answers for her.

“Thanks Auntie Mary,” Michelle says, as she took the cup of hot chocolate into hands.

Auntie Mary, taking a seat to Michelle on the porch outside her house, “Michelle, I am happy that you came to visit me here, but it’s been two weeks now, and you still seem to be as unhappy as when you first came.”

“No, of course not,” Michelle assures, unconvincingly.

“You never were good at lying,” Auntie Mary pointed out, “and about the only person who could make you feel so down, is my thoughtless son.”

Michelle, quick to defend Raymond, “No, it’s not his fault.”

“Oh, don’t try to help him,” Auntie Mary tells, “if he would’ve just told you to stay.”

Knowing that Auntie Mary was right, “I think all I needed was for Raymond to just ask me to stay,” Michelle admits, “but he didn’t.”

“So are you and Rain Lee together now or what?” Matt directly asks Raymond, as they sat at the counter of a bar.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Raymond denies the topic, looking at his bottle of beer in hand.

“Don’t play dumb with me,” Matt confronts, “Who doesn’t know that your relationship with Rain is going at a mile a minute.”

Raymond takes a drink from his bottle, and turns to Matt with a mocking smile, “Can you exaggerate it any more.”

“So you admit that the two of you are together,” Matt points out.

“We’re not ‘together’ as you put it,” Raymond replies, to his own disappointment.

“Is it because of Michelle?” Matt asks, putting tension into the atmosphere. “Did you ever like her?”

After a brief moment, “Yeah,” Raymond admits.

“If Michelle hadn’t left to Auntie Mary’s, would you guys-“

“No,” Raymond answers, surely. “Rain had already appeared…”

“Come on Michelle, the plane isn’t going to wait for you,” Auntie Mary rushed, as she stood by the entrance of the flight’s gate.

Michelle, still in indecision, drags herself up to Auntie Mary, “I don’t know Auntie Mary, I’m not sure I am ready to go back,” Michelle confesses.

“Michelle,” Auntie Mary takes her hand, “I know how you’re feeling. You’re still unsure as to how you’re going to face Raymond. But no matter how insecure you feel, staying here won’t solve anything. You have to go back and grasp hold of every opportunity you have. Love doesn’t just come to you.”

Upon reaching the front entrance, Rain notices a big crowd surrounding the street just nearby the firm.

As she walked out of the building, she sees an ambulance pull up by where all the people are, as her curiosity grew.

“Heard a guy was hit by a speeding car,” a man explained to another, as they rushed up to the crowd building up.

Without a second’s thought, Rain’s fear built up as she too, ran towards the commotion. As she got closer and closer, panic grew, “Raymond,” was all she could whisper out.

Finally reaching the crowd, she began to make her way through to the center. “Raymond… Raymond…” she continuously called, until she reached the open center area. She watches as someone was pulled up into the ambulance. “Raymond,” she called out loudly, about to run up to the ambulance.

“Rain.”

Rain stopped, and slowly turned to the familiar call. Right across from her, Raymond stood amongst the crowd, bouquet of lilacs facing towards the ground. Without another beat, both Rain and Raymond ran up to one another as Rain hugged him.

“I thought I’d never see you again,” Rain says, hugging Raymond tightly.

Raymond then gently pulls away from Rain’s hug and takes her hand in his, “I promised I’d never leave you behind,” Raymond explains, as Rain softly smiles and they embrace in each others’ hug.

Further from the crowd, who was slowly dispersing, Edison stood off to the side, witnessing the event.
