She stormed into his room, throwing the pictures onto his desk
“What is it, Kenix?” Slightly annoyed from being interrupted from his work, Gallen asked
“You tell me! So Jessica is just a friend, huh?” The color had completely drained out of Kenix’s face, while the red slowly crept up Gallen’s face
“What if she’s more than a friend? And why did you go through my personal belongings?”
“You! Liar!”
“Be fair, Kenix. And you haven’t answered my questions!”
Gallen tried to stay calm. Blood already raced to his head. Kenix exploded into a fit. With one move, she swept all the pictures form his desk to the wooden floor and about to stamp her foot on them, only to realize she had really stamped onto Gallen’s hand. She stopped, frozen, starring hard. Gallen’s face contoured with a mixture of anger and pain. He stared back at Kenix. She broke into sobbing and blindly ran back to her room, slamming the door behind her.
Quietly, Gallen tidied up the mess on the floor. There were scratches and skinned patches on his left hand, where Kenix had stepped on. He didn’t want Jessica’s picture to be ruined, and so out of millions of options, he had chosen to cover it with his hand. The throbbing at the skinned patches sent pulses back to his temple. He found himself helpless. What did Kenix want with him? He was reluctant in breaking the news about Jessica, not because they had anything to hide, but only because he sensed Kenix was not ready. The whole thing sounded absurd now. Kenix now considered him a cheater. Fine, if that made her feel better. He understood that she had been looking desperately for someone or something to blame. Kenix had never satisfied with the way their relationship ended, regardless of the fact that she was the one who blatanly ended it.
Maybe he shouldn’t have seen Kenix again. He shouldn't be so keen on having the explanation directly from her. That explanation Kenix had give him a few days back was so vague and incomprehensive. It was of utmost disappointment, but it did the trick to his inquiring mind. He would now be able to lock that sad chapter of his love life. Well, he should have been able to do that without having Kenix here. He should have let bygones be bygones.
He was broken-hearted the day he found Kenix’s wedding photos among the mail. He wasn’t the best boyfriend, but would she, as his girlfriend, be just a little more understanding? They had great time together. She’d, from times to times, told Gallen about Frankie. Gallen loved Kenix, but Frankie simply idolized her.
So? Gallen had been so confident of their relationship. Kenix loved him, and he loved her. Their relationship could certainly stand the test of time, Gallen had been so sure. He had vowed to himself that he would try his best to establish something, so that they could live comfortably later. He wouldn’t, he didn’t feel it was right and fair, ask for her hand before he could be sure Kenix would be happy. After all, Kenix had been so used to a luxury life. She was the princess of the house. Her parents had even offered Gallen a position in their company, to which he politely declined, with clenched teeth and white knuckles. The whole thing might be a big mistake after all. He was working so hard to move to the state, to enter a good engineering school, and to earn a degree, only to find at the end his beloved Kenix had chosen Frankie. Frankie returned back to HK every holiday to visit Kenix, Gallen only called. Frankie always flew on Singapore Air, so that he could stop by Amsterdam and buy Kenix fresh, authentic Holland’s tulips, while Gallen had only letters. It was the inevitable that happened. It was that curious twist of fate.
The phone rang, and Gallen jumped. It rang again, Kenix didn’t pick up. It was Frankie who always called at this time. Gallen suddenly felt a chill up his spine. Would Kenix be so silly that …? He hastily dragged himself out of his room, across the hall, to hers. The phone had stopped ringing, and Kenix’s voice would be heard from the inside. It was almost normal. Well, it should sound absolutely normal to Frankie. Gallen heaved a relieved sigh. That fury she had just now in his room, what was the reason behind it? Gallen somehow hoped it wasn’t because Kenix still had feeling for him. He frowned, uncertain of himself. He wasn’t thinking very straight. For some very curious reason, Gallen had been feeling glad at every little signs showing Kenix’s affection toward Frankie. A secret wish for their happiness, more than what an ex-boyfriend should be thinking.

Kenix stood tall in front of him: “I’ve decided to fly back to Paris tomorrow!”
“Kenix, I didn’t intend to hide Jessica from you”
Kenix turned arruptly: “I’m not interested in knowing that anymore”
“But you have to know, Kenix. Jessica shouldn’t be dragged on to this mess between you and me”
“So that’s it? Jessica?” Kenix smirked
“Kenix! She wasn’t the third party. I didn’t call and write you that often, that was my fault. Jessica wasn’t there”
“Enough with that” Kenix rudely interrupt Gallen, he felt frustrated…
“I’ll have to say it all. You’re leaving tomorrow anyway. I should just as well tell you everything. You know, you are extremely selfish”
Kenix eyes were wide open, she jerked her head uneasily
“Continue!”
“You can’t simply expect me to mourn over our relationship forever” Gallen heaved “I’ve been doing that the last 2 years, and I think it’s time for me to move on” He eyed Kenix defiantly “I found Jessica, and I won’t let her walk away from my life”
Kenix was speechless. She wasn’t expecting this. She was ready for some lame excuses, to which she would reluctantly accept. But this, this… "Gallen, what happened to you? You’re supposed to love me!" Kenix fought a lump at her throat. She avoided his eyes. "Why do you have to be so fierce? You love me, you love ME! I left you, so what? You love me!"
Kenix collapsed, her pride collapsed.
