His mother had wanted him to go see her! Thought of his mother brought tear back to his eyes. Such tragic and ironic end! Who would think his mother would pass away just like that? All alone, with no one beside her at that fateful moment, she’d left this world. He didn’t even have a chance to say anything. It was too late when they retrieved her lifeless figure from the bottom of that swimming pool. And she was so full of life the previous day, the day she wrote to Julian to urge him go visit her old friend, Jessica’s mother. Julian took a deep breath; Jessica’s mother had been very nice to invite him to come over for the long weekend. That dreadful dormitory was deserted every holiday, and Julian felt glad to escape it this time.
“Raymond, is it?” Julian guessed “Jessica’s little brother?”
Raymond gently, but firmly snatched Julian suitcase, and swiftly threw it into the trunk when they finally reached the car. It was a Friday night, and Raymond couldn’t find any closer spot to park. Julian didn’t mind. After 4 hours on the train, a short walk was refreshing. Raymond had grown up into a man already, chuckled Julian “and I’m getting old!” Raymond found Julian a bit scary. Darn, the man talked to himself!
They were greeted warmly at the door. Julian looked from one girl to the other. It was hard to tell which one Jessica was. And they enjoyed the little test. Julian made a wild guess at the end. Jessica laughed, while Michelle looked hurt “I’m not that old!”
The two girls prepared dinner, while their mother kept Julian busy with all the reminiscence of old days. For some of them Julian was too little to remember, but to entertain the nice lady, he invented a couple of details here and there. The evening drifted on pleasantly. Jessica was not only smart, she was charming! Julian liked the way Jessica smiled!
Raymond suggested Karaoke, and the four eagerly left the house. Mrs. Hsuan had no objection to make. She wanted Jessica to get involve with Julian. He was decent. He made a good "candidate". She hoped he would help her older daughter to forget that frightful one!
While Mrs. Hsuan contented with her plan, “that frightful one” stopped his car in front of the same bar.
“Hi babe, waiting for someone?” said the man as he approached the four. Michelle snickered, Jessica ignored, Raymond grinned, while Julian turned red:
“We’re together!” Julian managed to mumble
“Oh” the man exclaimed, then swiftly turn Jessica chair to face him, he looked curiously into her eyes “is that so?”
“Hey, stop bothering her” Julian objected, while Michelle and Raymond sat back and watched
The man cup Jessica’s chin, as if about to kiss her… “Hey, stop!” Julian stood up, pushing his chair back, while the other two broke into laughter. Raymond stated with a mocking air “Don’t waste your time! Even my Mom couldn’t stop them!”
“Urg, take it somewhere else, I can’t stand it anymore” Michelle whimpered
Julian looked lost. The man turned back to him, beamed brightly and extended his hand:
“Sorry, I’m Gallen! Nice to meet you!”
“Julian”
“Sorry Julian, these two insisted I had to put on an act, if I wanted to see their sister tonight.” Gallen hurriedly explained. He could see Julian didn’t really appreciate the joke. The poor man was still at a loss. Obviously Jessica’s mother had never mentioned Gallen. She had her reason.

Julian left early the next morning. He didn’t stay the whole 3 days as he’d intended to.
As much as their mothers wished, Julian wasn’t willing to entangle himself in a triangular relationship.
