Chapter 1

The Prodigal Son of the Wongs

"You! Get out! And don't you dare to let me see your face ever again!"

Gallen stood there long enough to get the words sunken into his dizzy head, then turned and blindly rushed out of the office, leaving old Mr. Wong shaken with anger. Children! Give them all they want and they just repay you with such ungratefulness! Mr. Wong clutched at his chest, his body swayed...

A young officer in crisp uniform approached the distraught woman. He offered her a cup of hot tea, hoping to calm her down:

"Hi, I'm officer Raymond!" he produced a pad "Mrs. Kwan?"

"Ye...yeah" the woman tightened her grip around the cup, trying to steady herself.

"Would you please tell me exactly what you saw" Raymond said, suppressing a sigh. Not much he could get out of such witness.

"Me... I clean..." The woman started incoherently "I am the janitor, you know" She added "Mr Wong he is very nice!"

Raymond waited patiently. He knew if he rushed, he would get nothing at all!

"Every morning I come early, you know" The woman jabbed "I come to clean, and .. and...I said good morning sir, but he didn't answer me" She gulped, her eyes still dilated of fear... Raymond nodded encouragingly... " I got closer you know, to pull the blind.. And and.. he was staring at me!" The woman was on the verge of histeric, her voice rose into a high shriek "I knocked his chair with my broom, and his body fell down. He was dead, dead..."

Raymond shook his head... He decided to send for the next witness. He flipped the file and look at the list... Hmmm, Raymond needed someone with a strong head to provide him with useful information. A name hit Raymond, and his brows knitted in perflex... "Roger Wong, victim's youngest son" The name rang so familiar...

Raymond tapped his head "Duh, it's Sir Wong from Unit 2!" He felt amused. It was quite rare to question a cop, especially someone with a higher rank. "You should enjoy this, Raymond!" He thought to himself, then immediately felt guilty. It was not an occasion to enjoy anything. It was Sir Wong's father who was dead. It appeared to be a natural dead, but there was the procedure to follow.

Raymond's trend of thought was interrupted by the entrance of a well-built young man. They shook hands. Raymond indicated a chair, and cleared his throat:

"Sir Wong, I'm officer Hsuan. Call me Raymond!"

"Call me Roger" The other man offered as he sat down. His voice is warm and his manner was friendly. Those guys in Unit 2 were lucky to have this man as the boss.

"Roger, you're the youngest son?" Raymond sat down and grabbed the pad...

"Correct!"

"Of three?"

"Yes, my oldest brother is outside waiting to be questioned."

"Thank you. Could you describe briefly your term with your father?" Raymond followed suit

"He loves all of us!" Roger blinked, and Raymond thought for a second the man was about to cry. "I think he is, or rather was, very fair."

"There is a family business?" Raymond pen ran swiffly across the pad

"Yes, Antex. Felix, my oldest brother helps my father run it."

"Your father's sudden end" Raymond carefully chose the words "certainly looks like a heart attack"

Before Raymond could continued, he got interrupted by a very agitated Roger... "Not heart, my father has never had problem with the heart!"

Raymond was quite taken aback but did not show it. He smelled something fishy...

"How's Antex doing?"

"Quite well! I don't know, you will have to talk to my brother Felix about it!"

"I'll do that! I assume your father left a will?"

"Yes, I think! At JHL agency."

"Do you, by any chance, know the term of the will?"

"Oh, it's not a secret! But you could talk to my father's lawyer" Roger appeared not interested in the matter. And Raymond switched the topic

"Your brother was seen leaving your father's office last night in a state of agitation..."

"Gallen always got into trouble with my father. Just different perspective in life that's all"

"It's generally believed that your brother, Gallen Wong, caused the heart attack?" Raymond eyed Roger keenly, as the other one lost his head and sprang up

"How many times do I have to tell you?" Roger brought a fist down "My father didn't have any problem with the heart! It's foul play! Someone wants my father out of the way!"

"And you suggested your brother, Gallen..."

"Officer, I don't suggest thing. I'm a cop myself! And my brother would never do such a thing!" Roger struggled to stay calm.

"I think it's probably enough for now" Raymond played cool "But I'll need your cooporation soon in the future. Thank you Sir!"

Roger nodded and walked briskly toward the door. Raymond tapped his forehead again... Murder? He'd like to talk to the second son, but his colleagues still haven't been able to locate the troublesome son of the Wongs.
