Gallen stopped to catch his breath. He had laughed himself to the verge of tear, and now the tear had drained backward. Gallen felt as if a million needles were stinging into his head.
Needle! Now since when did Auntie Yung learn to handle the needle that dexterously? She injected him in such a confident way, and she aimed at the neck! Gallen shook his head. He had been on a wrong track all along. It’d never occurred to him to look closer. He had searched wide and high in vain. And yet that person was frightfully closed to him!
It hurt him so much. Why? Why did she want to harm him? What did she mean when she said “put one with one”? What else did he miss? Was she? Was she the one? Gallen shuddered! How? Why? So many questions were tumbling in his head, yet he was forced to lie here, completely helpless. Once more, Gallen closed his eyes in exhaustion and frustration.
Amid the floating cloud, Gallen saw an endearing face. His mother!
She was smiling at him. How warm and sweet her smile was. How beautiful her eyes were… She parted her lips, as if to say something to him. But suddenly her face changed. It went from tranquilizing to utmost troubling. Something far in the background perturbed her. Gallen was uneasy! From far away he heard a familiar voice… His Father! Lingeringly, Mother faded off. Gallen held out his hand, holding onto her, but Mother was gone…
“Don’t go, Mother! So many things I want to ask you,” whispered Gallen in despair “Why did you leave us? Why did you leave Dad? You already forgave Antie Yung, didn’t you? Why didn’t you stay? Must you leave?”
The next moment, Gallen was startled with a new discovery. Why? It was as clear as crystal! He felt a mixture of panic and anger surging up inside… Waving the blanket aside, he gathered all his strength and got up.
He tumbled. His legs were numb and seemingly useless. The burning pain from his waist was unbearable.
But he must get out of here. If he were killed here and now, the truth would forever be buried. No! “Get up, Gallen! Get up!” He grinded his teeth… The pain clouded his eyes… Sweat drops dripped from his temple.
Gallen fainted...

“Hester, day off today?” Jessica smoothed her shirt and took a peek at her own reflection in the mirror before heading out the door. Her eyes caught Hester’s image. Jessica turned and startled. Sitting very still on the couch, Hester reminded Jessica of someone who had not slept for ages. Dark circles were so visible under her eyes. Her hair was rumbled, and she was still in the clothes she had on the previous night.
“Hester, please don’t be like this!” Jessica sighed. “Gallen would not want you to be like this, girl!”
“You don’t understand!” Hester gorged. Something in her tone troubled Jessica.
“I know, I know!” Jessica sat down and offered her sister a pat on the shoulder.
“No, you DO NOT know!” Hester jerked her sister’s hand back so suddenly, so violently. Jessica was completely taken aback. She stared at Hester, baffled.
The other ran to her bedroom and shut the door. Jessica was quick to follow, but not fast enough. After pounding at the door for a while with no avail, Jessica picked up the phone.
“Roger?”
“Yes, Hester?”
“No, it’s her sister, Jessica!”
“Oh!”
“I’d like to have a word with you. It’s about Hester!”
Roger immediately alerted. “I’ll be right there!” Hastily, he gave some instructions to his co-workers, typed a few more words into his email, then snatched his jacket and rushed to the door.
Not until he was inside the car that Roger realized he did not know where to go! He reached for his cell phone and about to dial when he heard a slight tap at his window. Surprised, Roger rolled down the window
“Hi, why are you here? Your sister has just called…”
“No, it’s me!”
“You?”
The girl suddenly realized something. She extended her hand. “Nice to meet you! I’m Jessica!”
“Oh my God!” exclaimed Roger. Then immediately he laughed at himself. Of course! Jessica, Hester’s identical twin!
They did look like two drops of water.
“May I get a ride with you? I don’t want to drive!”
“Of course,” said Roger, who was blushed from realizing he’d been gazing idiotically into the girl’s face. Lucky she was too occupied with the thought of her sister to see that.
“Where would you like to go, Jessica?”
“Any café would do, Roger,” answered Jessica, “I’m sorry to hear about your father…”
“Oh, we’ll catch the murderer soon.” Roger’s jaw set firmly, “He will pay for it!”
“And I’m also sorry about your brother. Have the police found him?”
A dark cloud passed through Roger’s face. He pressed his lips, and gave the steering wheel a sharp turn.
“You know,” said Jessica after a moment of awkward silence “My sister has been behaved very strangely since she came home.”
“…”
“Excuse me for being nosy, Roger. But please tell me what happened last night” Jessica pled, and Roger would almost touch the sincerity in the air.
Carefully, he reiterated their adventure of the night before. He told her about the search at the TV station, about Nick, and about the script they found.
“I want to read the script,” said Jessica “Do you have it with you?”
Roger nodded,
“I guess you don’t have a printout? We need a computer to read it then! Let’s go to my office!” Jessica said with an air of determination that Roger found both annoying and intriguing.
They aborted the café mission and turned toward the main University campus.

Jessica straightened herself up and looked keenly into Roger’s eyes. They’d been spending the last 45 minutes reading through the script. A classical disturbing story of a HK family had unfolded itself under their eyes. A sad atmosphere engrossed Roger and Jessica…
“What do you think of this?” inquired Jessica, still looking straight into Roger’s eyes
“Maybe a new series that my brother is working on,” replied Roger, quite uncertainly, “It’s a bit short for a series I think… Or.. movie?”
Jessica looked troubled, “What did my sister say after she read this?”
“Nothing… She had on a very weird expression when we came back from the kitchen,” sighed Roger “We tried to make her talk but she insisted on going home!”
Roger looked curiously into Jessica’s face… “You really think there is something in this little document?”
“I do, Roger!” Jessica paused for a while, thinking. She shook her head a few times. Roger watched her with mounting interest. Somehow he thought she was nervous.
“Roger, if you don’t mind me asking…” warily, Jessica addressed Roger at last “About Gallen!” She eyes him reproachfully
"Yes?"
“Is he...your..brother?”
“What?”
