Roger stared at Jessica in utmost astonishment. Such a question! This girl must be kidding! But how serious she looked, Roger thought. What was she thinking just now before she asked the seemingly absurd question?

“What do you mean?” demanded Roger.

“I… I have a little idea…” Jessica hesitated… She didn’t quite know how to explain it. It just came, quite naturally.

“Yes?” Roger was curious and agitated at the same time.

Jessica tapped her fingers slightly on the monitor. When she spoke again, Roger was completely at lost. For her next question was: “Do you, by any chance, know your Mother’s handwriting?”

“Uh.. I was too small to remember.” Replied Roger after a momentary lapse, “But what does that have to do with…”

Just then the idea struck him! Roger gazed intensely from the monitor, to Jessica, and back to the monitor again… Jessica nodded “Yes, I think this script is your Mother’s idea of a diary!”

“No” Roger held up a hand “No…” He protested wildly “It can’t be!”

Jessica watched Roger with sympathy, as he dropped himself down back on the chair, head in his hands. She would understand how unpleasant it was to him, if this idea was proven true. Faintly, Jessica regretted of ever suggesting the idea to Roger.

“It might just be my imaginary, Roger!” Jessica chuckled softly, trying to lighten the situation “We don’t know for sure…”

But deep down inside, Roger knew all it took was a simple check. All he need was to go home and find a piece of his mother’s hand-writing. Roger smirked at the thought. If the idea was proven true, then Mother would no longer be His mother. He would very well be the baby born into the Wong by another woman, sort of an illegitimated wife!?!

And if so, where had she been all these year? Roger felt suffocated by an indescribable feeling…

Raymond yawned. He took a glance at the clock: 10:14 am… Not that it was matter. Today he was officially on vacation and had practically nothing to do anyway. Some thumping sounds had waked him up earlier, but Raymond simply buried his head under the fluffy pillow and drifted back to his dream.

Now as he stretched himself lazily, Raymond wondered what had happened. He opened his door and peeked out. The house was so quiet. His two sisters had probably gone to work… or not! Raymond frowned slightly as he spotted Hester’s handbag and coat carelessly tossed across the coach.

“Raymond!” A hoarse voice called up to him. Raymond turned sharply to face his second sister, who now looked nothing like the usual poised, confident, beautiful Hester.

“Sis, look at you!” exclaimed Raymond with concern

“Tell me Ray!” Leaning slightly to the panel of her door to support herself, Hester said in a barely audible voice.

“Sure, sis! But what about? Gallen?” guessed Raymond, who was snuggling his sister gently into the room and making her sit down on her bed. He was afraid her frail figure would collapse anytime.

“Ye… yes!” Hester said, the tremor in her voice took control… She stopped and swallowed hard “Is he… is he the real son of the Wong?”

Raymond stared at Hester curiously “What make you think he is not?”

“Answer me, Ray!” Hester half demanded, half begged…

“I guess he’s not” replied Ray at last, as he noted the urgency in his sister tone “I’ve just heard about it from Julian last night! They questioned a witness who claimed that his blood group is not compatible with his parents…!”

“So it was true!” Hester eyes dilated, her hands trembled over her mouth.

“Well, they still have to check the official record…” added Raymond hastily. He was confused. What was that Hester knew that he didn’t?

It took Hester quite a while before she could pull herself together and started telling Raymond about the event of the night before after she reached Nick’s home with Roger.

But once she began telling him about the script, Hester suddenly transformed ... She was wholeheartedly there among the characters to relive their distressing tale…

Raymond listened with bewilderment…

-------------------

Hester had done with her narrative for a while… Raymond sat rooted to his spot, trying to absorb what he’d just heard…

“But how can you be sure, sis? That the script is a real story?”

“I can’t be sure!” Hester bit her lips, the tremor had come back and lingered in her tone “But I know all the series Gallen is working on. This script is not for any of those…”

“And he told me that he had a secret he would want to share with me… one day!”

Raymond frowned. He trusted Hester’s instinct. Poor Hester, Raymond thought. If it were true, then the man she loved would indeed become the best target for the police. Everything would fall perfectly into their places and point to Gallen as one of the most cold-blooded criminals known to men.

Had Julian found the man?

Vivian stared perplexedly at the message now blinking on her computer. She must have read it for the tenth time now, and still unable to fathom the meaning of it.

Vivian wasn’t much of a programmer or technician. Her job function was mainly administration, yet she was sure there was something queer about the message… It did not appear to her as a regular tech request. She moved the mouse up and touched the address line… The email account was internal. It must be someone inside the company. Now who would it be? Whoever it was must obviously use an alias … She didn’t know anyone by that name...

“To whom it may concern: ” the message ran “Seeking assistance to access main site. Immediate higher management may be helpful. Abandoned quarter of lower level… Utmost care recommended!”
