“Woa!” exclaimed Flora “This is so nice!”
“It’s my father’s pride!” Gallen nodded smilingly “He had all the decoration and lighting done by himself!”
“The paintings on the walls, too?”
“Oh that!” he replied nonchalantly “Most, yes! He made me do some…”
“Which one?” she tugged his arm excitedly “Which ones are yours? Show me!”
“I don’t remember… somewhere about…” he gathered her into his arms “Hey, you didn’t tell me if you like the song on 98.3 last night!”
“Oh, that!” She smiled “Has anyone told you you’re a lousy liar?”
“My sister!” He replied coolly “But she’s just being “cute” to me!”
“Well,” She giggled, “I’m afraid Annie is being truthful to you!”
“You’re supposed to stay on my side” He feigned hurt “What have I done to earn that title of a lousy liar?”
“You said you loved me before you met me!”
“That’s true!”
“That’s not true!”
“That is so”
“That is not”
“Is so!”
“Is not!”
“Is so!” he lowered his head and put a tight seal before the next “is not” would leave her lips. She softened at once.
“You’re cheating!” She pushed him away, trying vainly not to smile
“I’m proving my point!” He winked
“That only proves you like me now” she pouted, being silly “Not before you met me!”
“You have no clinical evidence to diagnose that I lied!” He grinned boyishly, playing with the little bowtie on the left shoulder of her dress.
“But I know from your medical history,” she said, watching him from under her lashes “that you were still thinking of Eileen before you met me! You couldn’t possibly think of her and …”
His countenance twisted momentarily, while his hand paralyzed in midair. The very faint flash of anguish in his eyes troubled her and stopped her amid her sentence. Quickly, she regretted for having brought up the issue.
---//---
Then a voice inside her spoke, menacingly “He’s still missing her. He’s still missing Eileen greatly!”
“What’s wrong with that? He’s faithful, that’s why I adore him!
“Silly girl,” the voice hushed “Don’t you get it? He might as well use you as a substitution!”
“No he’s not!” She became a little shaken “I don’t believe it! He’s not using me!”
“Don’t you see the pain in his eyes? Doesn’t it give him away? Must he say it out loud?”
“No!” She widened her own eyes, terrified “Go away, I don’t like you and your way of talking!”
“Don’t deceive yourself. Open your eyes, use your brain!” The voice laughed sinisterly “Your pathetic heart is blind!”
“Go away!” She cried.
---//---
She must have cried it out loud and startled him.
“I’m sorry, Flora!” he pressed his lips together half apologetically, half obstinately “I admit I’m still missing Eileen. I’ve tried to let her go...”
“Are you” she blinked, avoiding his soul-capturing gaze “are you serious about me?”
“If you didn’t trust me,” he set his jaw firmly “then why did you accept me? The choice was yours, really!”
“If I didn’t accept you…” she felt the blood about to creep up her face. “Then you… you…” she was at lost for words and felt frustration building up inside.
“I’d understand!” He nodded, lowering his head and setting his jaw firmer “But I’d like to let you know this, Flora…”
She looked up, didn’t quite know what to expect
“I’d love you all the same!”
She caught his dimple as it sank further into his chin, adorable.
“Silly!” said Flora under her breath. Tipping on her toes, she brushed a butterfly kiss on his cheek.
“What does it mean?” His eyes flickered as he touched his face in confusion
“Nothing!” She looked away, biting her twitching lower lip, trying not to smile
“You tricked me?” He put his hands on his hips, pouting “What’s in it for you?”
“Lots!” She turned slightly back, covering the broad grin on her face with both hands “I’ve learned that the genius Dr. Lo isn’t that smart!”
“You!” He caught her and picked her up with ease “I’ll make sure you pay for this!”
“Let me go” she laughed, struggling “Put me down! Somebody helps me!”
“Nobody’s going to help you, Miss Chan!” he put her on top of the piano and gazed into her eyes “In case you haven’t notice, this place is closed tonight!”
“What are you going to do?” She was a little panicked
“What do you think?” He arched an eyebrow,
“Don’t even think about it!” She warned, wriggling to get off, but he was blocking the way, standing very close with his hands encasing her.
“What if I do?” He showcased that boyish grin again
“Gallen Lo, I trust you to be a gentleman” She cried nervously
“I’ll be gentle!” He winked mischievously “Let’s do it!”
He leaned forward; his open-neck shirt brushed slightly against her arm and sent her whole body jolting up. “Gallen, no!”
“No?” He remained where he was with his face felt “But I was hoping you would join me!”
“Not like this!” She could feel her face burning, thoughts raced through her head, leaving her stammering “I’m … I don’t… I don’t think… I’m not ready!”
“But you promised!” He straightened his torso and said rather dispiritedly
“I?” she gasped, “I promised?”
“Oh I know!” He beamed up “I’ll get you some lemonade! That would help!”
“Lemonade?” She was puzzled
“It’s good for your voice” He said eagerly and rushed toward the wine cellar “Give me a second, Flora. I know where they chill them!”
She touched her flaming cheeks with both her hands “Silly silly silly!” she scowled herself “of course he only meant singing! What have your silly head had gone to?”
He reappeared in front of her seconds later, looking keenly at her face “Maybe I should put some more ice? You do look a little dehydrated!”
“No, I’m okay!” She blushed deeper behind the glass of drink and moved her feet slightly “Play!”
“Only if you promise to vocal!” he tugged gently at her sleeve, looking earnestly “Come on Flora, it’ll be fun!”
“Play first!” She managed to bring her heart rate somewhat back to normal “I need to see whether your skill is worthy!”
“So full of yourself, I see!” He laughed, and leaned forward again. She dodged!
“Sorry,” he suddenly realized what it looked like “I only meant to get the key!”
“Of… of course you …” she stammered, blushed, then decided to bite her tongue.
They locked eyes for a minute or two, and then both broke out laughing
“Here’s your silly key!” She reached to the box behind her for it and tossed it to him
“Now I’m not thinking of the key anymore!” Gallen claimed. He was being very naughty.
“Play!” She put on a serious face and said in a commanding tone.
“Fine!” He flipped the cover open and ran his fingers through “Which piece might I entertain you tonight with, M’ lady?”
“You!” She mouthed
“Really?” his ears were sharp. Immediately he inched closer, eyes twinkled.
“In your dream!” laughed Flora merrily as she pushed him away “Just play… anything would be nice!”
He sighed comically as he sat back down the leather tool in front of the piano.
“I’ll play one, then you will have to sing for me. Deal?” He looked earnestly at her, and that just reminded her so much of the little puppy he drew on the Marriott Hotel’s note.
He adjusted his posture, straightened his shoulder, and flashed another one of his perfect grins toward her “Nothing’s gonna change my love for you!”(*)
“Right!” She rolled her eyes dramatically. He shrugged playfully and touched the keyboard.
Each crystal notes streamed effortlessly off his beautiful slender fingers to flood the amble ballroom. His elegant head tilted slightly aside, and his eyes dreamy. For a moment she had the feeling he wasn’t belong to this world. An enchanting aura was around him… around her… around them!

“Flora! Flora!” He nudged her knee gently “Are you okay? If you’re not feeling well, I’ll take you home!”
She snapped out of her dream “Gallen, why did you stop? Don’t stop!”
“But you looked…”
“I’m fine,” she smiled “Blame it on your music!”
“Hey! Ah, whatever you say Flora!” He admitted defeated “Told you it’s not fun to play solo! I need vocal!”
She looked at him, wanting to carve his image into eternity. “I’ll sing!” She said at last.
He sat down again, eager as a schoolboy. His fingers danced into the prelude of her most favorite song. She stared.
“Ada told me it’s your favorite” said Gallen, “Is it the one you want to sing?”
He tilted his head, waiting. She nodded smilingly, wanting so much to kiss him
“Is this high enough?” he stroked a few notes
“I think so,” she nodded again, smiling with her eyes this time
She smiled shyly, her voice - soft and beautiful by itself, now harmonized and embraced by his music, floated to the summit of its exquisiteness.
~~~~~~~~~~Oceans apart, day after day…
And I slowly go insane. I hear your voice …on the line, but it doesn't stop the pain.
If I see you next to never, how can we say forever?
Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you
I took for granted, all the times… that I thought would last somehow. I hear the laughter, I taste the tears, but I can't get near you now!
I wonder how we can survive-this romance!
But in the end if I'm with you, I'll take the chance
...waiting for you~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(**)
“That was beautiful!” He whispered and stood up, reaching for her hands
“Thanks” she replied in the same tone.
“What’s wrong?” He caught the one crystal pearl of tear on her face “Silly you, it’s just a song!”
“I know” she smiled “Sorry Gallen!”
“Why?” He cupped her face and lowered his head
“I shouldn’t choose such a sad song for tonight!”
“But it’s beautiful,” he said softly “Most importantly, it’s something you love!”
“Gallen,” she broke free from his kiss “What would you be one day if I leave you?”
“Silly!” he sealed her lips again, murmuring “I won’t let you!”
“Gallen,” she rested her cheek against his broad chest “What if you can’t help it?”
“I see that song really upsets you” he averted the topic “Let’s play something fun!”
“Gallen!”
“Why, are you planning on leaving me?” He pushed her slightly away so he could look into her eyes “Are you?”
“I said if” she looked away
He bit his lips “I’d be what you want me to be!” He cupped her face again “Tell me before you leave me!”
She wrapped her arms around his neck to draw him closer, hiding her now wet face in his shoulder.
“Flora,” he petted her hair gently, amused “I’ve never known you’d be this crying princess!”
“You’re regretting dating me?” She wiped her face, pouting
“No, actually it’s relieving!” He chuckled “You were a little scary those first few times we met!”
“Hey” she gave him a playful shove, sending him slightly off his balance, “how dare you!”
“Here comes your scary twin again!” He widened his eyes...
She couldn’t help but laughed...
