[Singapore International Airport, Day 20th, 11 pm]
[Sing Air Flight 1128 – Singapore – New York]

“Sir,” the air stewardess approached Gallen for the third time and managed to speak in a well-controlled tone “I’m afraid I’ll be forced to take your phone from you if you’re not turning it off now! We’re preparing to take off”

“I…” He looked up with a hint of guilt in his dark smart eyes... “I’m so sorry, Miss! I guess I didn’t hear the announcement!”

“It’s all right!” The air stewardess made a mental shook of her head as she watched him reluctantly put his cell phone back into his shirt pocket. She repressed a chuckle and added in a much softer tone “Please fasten your seatbelt, too, Sir!”

A few more travelers like this one, and she would have to consider quitting this job! Strolling to the end of the cabin, she sat herself onto her designated seat and fastened her own seatbelt. Then curiously, she glanced back at that particular man…

His handsome face was rather haggard, she noted. Dark lines were vivid under his eyes. He was, at time, running both of his hands through his hair in a restless manner… He would cover his face one minute, would consult his watch the next, and would clutch his head the minute after that… He was, obviously, in such an agitated state of mind.

The air stewardess wondered what the problem would be…

---------------
[2 hours later]
---------------

“Sir,… Sir!” the same air stewardess stooped down and tapped his shoulder gently “Would you like some snack or something?”

Gallen waved without thinking twice “No thank you!”

“How about something to drink?” She expressed her concern openly “You’ve stared at that computer for quite a while…”

He looked up and smiled. His smile was so forced… “Coffee would be great, thank you!”

“No problem, you’re much welcomed!”

He went back to the screen, only to find himself staring blankly at the opened document. Gallen forlornly allowed his head to drop onto his trembling hands…

Why must this happen to him again? Why must life be so cruel to him?

Whoever up there must enjoy his little heartless game! First Eileen, and now Flora? Was he, Gallen, in the wrong? What if he didn’t know the girls? Would Fate spare them then?

He discarded the thought almost at once. He simply could not let himself be defeated this time. He simply had to try everything to keep Flora by his side… Everything! The first step was finding a match for her transplantation! By the time he got back from New York, Singapore should have something, some profiles, for him. They must! They had to! He had to save her!

How ironic! Gallen wanted so much to laugh at himself. Who was he? A cardiac surgeon! But how ironically painful, he’d lost one beloved girlfriend, and now was about to lose one more, to those horrid heart defects! Must it be heart? Must it be him? Must it be so maddening coincidental?

Gallen clutched his head. He felt like crying!

“But you don’t have much time, Gallen! No time to waste!”

He picked himself up… “I have to win her back! I simply have to!”

“Sir, your coffee!”

“Thank you!”

“If you need anything else, just let me know!”

“Sure…”

[Hong Kong International Airport – The 21st day – Saturday]

“Nick Gor, where’s Annie?” Ada took another glance at her wrist watch

“I don’t know!” Nick flipped through the paperwork “She just gave me this stack and ran off!”

“Kevin, what have you done to her?”

Kevin leered over the top of his palm pilot “It’s not even funny, Ada!”

“Call her, Ada.” Nick said and advanced toward the ticketing counter “We should get moving, or we’ll miss the flight!”

“Where are you, where are you?” Ada groaned, and flipped on her phone “Pick up.. pick up! You’d better pick up!” She listened impatiently to the ringing “Girl, where are you? We’re going to be late!”

“Here… stop yelling… I’m in front of you!”

“Huh?” Ada shot her eyes up, “where?”

“Don’t see me?” Annie’s voice sounded a little breathless

“No” Ada admitted “Where exactly are you? Flora, Kevin, do you see her?”

“No” Kevin’s nose was sticking onto his little tech toy “No…”

Ada and Flora circled around, then Flora gasped

“It’s beautiful!” Ada agreed. Not only the two of them, but the whole departure level of HK Airport had its eyes on a huge walking bouquet of rose…

“It’s breathtaking!” Flora whispered “I wish I could have just one…”

The bouquet seemed to walk toward the girls. It was walking toward the girls. It stopped in front of the girls…

Then emerged out from behind it, was the red face of little Annie!

“What are you doing, Annie?” Ada cried very loud…

The little girl placed the huge bouquet on the floor as she herself squatted down. She was wheezing for air “For… for… you!”

“Me?” Ada asked incredulously

“No.. not… not you!” Annie placed a hand on her heaving chest “H..her!”

Flora’s eyes blurred… Her ears rang … and her heart fluttered back to life! It must be from him! He must have thought of her the whole time despite his crazy schedule… Yet she had stayed awake the whole night … doubting him!

“You’re crazy!” Kevin gasped and forgot about his toy for a second “Why didn’t you tell me to go with you?” He attempted on the bouquet “This IS heavy!”

Annie rolled her eyes “I called you like seven times, Kevin!”

“You did?” Kevin fumbled for his phone “Oh no… Told you the uncertainty of life!”

He was simply referring to the death of his cell phone’s battery, but Annie’s eyes started to water.

“Sorry Annie!” Kevin was panicked “I… I…”

Annie ignored him and pushed the bouquet of pure BB roses toward Flora “I guess I don’t have to tell you who ask me to get this for you, huh sis?”

Flora shook her head and hid her face among the silky petals. The aroma engulfed her… a joyful tear rolled down her cheek…

...and landed on the little card. She opened it…

“ Nothing's gonna change my love for you (*)
You ought to know by now how much I love you
One thing you can be sure of
I'll never ask for more than your love…”

Hiding behind the buds, Flora brought the car to her lips, and kissed the little puppy… He must have managed to sketch this and give it to Annie before he rushed to the airport yesterday…

“I love you!” she smiled to the cute cartoon

She could almost see Gallen's dazzling grin “Copy and paste!”

...

“Oh my God!”

Flora startled, and looked up to see Nick with his eyes twice the normal size, staring at the bouquet by her side…

“Must be that crazy Gallen!” Nick exclaimed and looked reproachfully at Flora “Don’t tell me you are going to bring this gigantic thing into the plane?”

“Why not?” came not only one, but three female voices. Nick instinctively backed off a step or two. “Okay okay!” He held up his hands in defeat “Hurry and go check in your bags!”

The group stared at him. Nick’s face finally relaxed upon comprehension “Oh, I forgot I had just checked them all in for you guys! Okay, get going then!”

The girls looked at Kevin suggestively as they nodded at the roses

“Why me?” Kevin cried… “Why not him?”

“Because I’m busy!” Nick said simply

“Doing what?” Kevin picked up the bouquet and hurried to catch up with the group “You’re walking with two free hands!”

Nick stopped, turned and looked from the whining guy to the smilling girls “I’m babysitting!”

“Hey!” came the laughing protests “We’re not kids!”

“Right!” Nick rolled his eyes and shooed as he held the elevator’s door “Go go go!”
