Deciding to leave it up to fate again, Edison head for the beach with Nymo. He could still remember that it was the place where he had first met up with her after all these years. He didn’t know why he is being so obsessed with Gillian, a girl from his past. A girl he knew that he should stay way from. Still, he fell for her despite all the odds and meeting up with her again confirms that it was not only just an infatuation. This is true love and there’s just something about her that makes him fall in love with her.
Ed: You go find Gillian for me, okay?
Nymo: *wags her tail* Woof! Woof!
Ed: Hmm….Maybe I should just marry you! You’re so much easier to please! *hugs her*
Suddenly, without warning, Nymo started dashing off across the beach, pulling poor Edison along. No matter how loud he screamed, Nymo just kept running. Before he could stop her, Nymo jumped onto a girl who’s lying on the beach, fast asleep. She had her back turn towards him and at that very moment, Edison could only hope that it is Gillian.
Girl: *screams* You stupid little………*stops when she realize that it Ed*
Ed: Ruby?
Ruby: *blush* I’m sorry. I didn’t know that it’s your dog….
Ed: Oh no, I should apologize. Nymo’s a bit crazy sometimes. I hope she did not hurt you…
Ruby: Oh no! *blush* Her name’s cute but I thought the name Nemo is for boys? Remember, Finding Nemo?
Ed: *smiles* That’s why I changed the spelling to N-Y-M-O instead. Finding Nemo is my sister’s favourite show so I decided to name her after the famous fish.
Ruby: That’s really smart. It’s really sweet of you to think of your sister.
Ed: She’s my only sister. It’s my duty to think of her! So…what are you doing here?
Ruby: Just doing some sun bathing. Guessed I must have fallen asleep.
Ed: I’m really sorry about Nymo.
Ruby: Well, if you’re feeling so guilty, maybe you should give me a special treat!
Ed: *smiles* That wouldn’t be a problem
Ruby: * shrieks*
Ed: Nymo! Don’t lick her face! I’m really sorry about her….She tends to be over friendly sometimes.
Ruby: *blush* It’s alright. So, when are you treating me?
Ed: How about now? Umm…do you like ice cream? There’s a Baskin nearby.
Ruby: Sure! I love ice cream!
Ed: *laughs* Boy, you sound really excited! Must be a big ice cream fan! Come on, I’ll help you pack up your things.
Ruby: *blush* Thanks. *scolds herself* You don’t have to be so obvious! He must be thinking that I’m a freak now!
Sure Edison is disappointed that the girl turned out to Ruby instead of Gillian. However, he couldn’t deny that he actually enjoyed spending time with Ruby. Time sure passes by quickly when he’s with her. They only realized how late it was when the shop lady informed them that they were closing down.
Lady: My dear lovebirds. The shop is closing in 5 minutes.
Ed: Oh no! We’re just friends.
Ruby: *blush* Yeah
Lady: *giggles* Oh please, this is the 20th century! You don’t have to deny your feelings for one another!
Ed: But….
Lady: *cuts in*You two look really cute together! Maybe you’re not aware of it yet but let me tell you, you two are made for one another!
Ruby: *blush* No, really…we’re just….
Lady: Friends?
Ruby: Yeah
Ed: *smiles* It’s not that hard to believe! *to Ruby* Can you hold Nymo? I’ll foot the bill. My treat, remember?
Ruby: Thanks.
Lady: *once Ed’s out of earshot* He’s a good catch. Don’t let him slip through your fingers! *winks* Try harder! He’ll notice you soon!
Ruby: *blush* I will try….
Before Ruby could finish her sentence, Nymo started barking wildly and ran off, pulling Ruby along. Ruby screamed her lungs off as Nymo rushed off in top speed. From behind, Ruby could hear Edison chasing after her but Nymo was too fast, even for him. Ruby was pale as a ghost when Nymo finally stopped. She collapsed onto the ground, breathless.
Ed: *with concern* Ruby? Are you okay?
Ruby: *tries to catch her breath*
Ed: I’m really sorry about Nymo…I didn’t know why she…*trails off when he looks up* Gillian?
Ruby: Huh?
Gill: Hey guys! Fancy seeing the both of you here, together! *carries Nymo and gives her a kiss*
Ed: *struggles to explain* Err…we met …umm…on the beach… Nymo..errr… jumped on…
Gill: *giggles* You don’t have to explain!
Ed: No, really…we were…
Ruby: I’m really sorry, Gill…I…errr….
Gill: I’m not interested to know! *smiles* Don’t worry so much! Well, I’ve got to go. I have umm…a meeting with someone. See you guys around! Bye, Nymo!
Gillian ran off, her heart breaking into pieces and before she knew it, tears started streaming down her cheeks. She was supposed to meet Ruby at the beach but she couldn’t find her anywhere. That’s when she took a long walk along the beach and let herself lose in her own thoughts. All that went through her mind was Edison, Edison and more Edison. She just couldn’t get him out of her mind. Realizing that she had fallen for him, she decided to take the chance. She was determined to move on with her life. It has been four years since Toro’s death and not a single day had gone by without her missing him…that is until Edison enters her life. Unknowingly, he had taught her how to love and to be love again. Sure no one could ever replace Toro and she will always love Toro. But for now, she had to keep him deep inside her heart, lock it and throw the keys away.
Gill: *cries to herself* I was going to tell him but now, I’m too late! I’m too late! I should have known better! How could I be falling in love again? Seeing Ed with Ruby today really tears me apart. I love him. I really do. I’ve never loved anyone as much as I love him ever since Toro passed away! Why? Why? Why can’t I find my own happiness? Why must it all be snatched away from me?
After sending Ruby home, Edison could only wish that he had met up with Gillian first instead of Ruby. Now, instead of making things better, he had made them worst. He really wanted to explain it to Gillian but at that time, the words were all stuck in his throat. Now, Gillian would be thinking that Ruby and him is an item when they are not. Despite all the misunderstandings, Edison is only happy about one thing and that is that fate has brought them together again. That is the only reason why Edison is still holding on to this forbidden love.
Char: Wow! What happened? You look so stressed out!
Ed: It’s all because of Nymo!
Char: Hey! Don’t put the blame on my baby!
Ed: Yeah, if she did not run off…*sighs*
Char: *laughs* What happened?
Ed: Long story…
Char: Come on, spill!
Ed: Don’t be such a busy body!
Char: *laughs* Hey! I might be able to help. Who knows, right?
Ed: *rolls up his eyes* You settle yours first because poking your nose into mine.
Char: Me? I’m problem-free!
Ed: Denial doesn’t do you any good, you know.
Char: Well, the same advice for you too!
Ed: *smiles* I guess you’re right. *sighs* We’re both in the same boat, huh? We both love someone who’s unreachable.
Char: Yeah…*sadly* But I let mine go without a fight…I hope you don’t let yours go without putting up a fight. Don’t wait until somebody else takes her away from you. Then, it’s too late.
Ed: I’ll keep that in mind. Cheer up, Char and try to move on. There’s so many guys out there for you! After all, you are Edison Chen’s sister!
Char: *laughs* So? What’s so great about that?
Ed: I’m Edison Chen, The Great!
Char: *pretends to vomit* Oh please!
Ed: *laughs* Wait till I tell Mum….
Char: *shriekes* Oh no, you don’t!
Ed: She’ll put you up with a guy in no time!
Char: No way! Anything but that! Remember the guy she put me up with before?
Ed: *laughs* Oh yes! Boy, was that funny! What was his name…hmm…I think it was Ben?
Char: *makes a face* Don’t even remind me of him!
Ed: *laughs* He was a giant! When the two of you went out, it was like a father with his daughter!
Char: *giggles* Yeah and he had to bend 90 degrees down just to hear me talk! Plus, his mouth sticks so much that I nearly faint.
Ed: *laughs* He couldn’t even enter our front door, remember? He was gigantic!
Char: Yeah! So please, you know Mom’s taste! It’s horrible!
Ed: It was more like horrendous!
Char: *laughs* Yeah, totally! I wonder what type of girl would Mom find for you…It’s not fair, you know. She never finds you a match.
Ed: *laughs* That’s because she knows I have so many already!
Char: And yet you want the one that is hard to get…
Ed: Just like you, Char!
Char: *giggles* We are horribly pathetic, eh?
Ed: *laughs* Yep, the pathetic duo in love!
Char: *sighs* You know, if only you’re not my brother. I’ll just marry you and we’ll both live happily ever after!
Ed: Ewww! Marry you?
Char: *laughs* Yeah, what’s wrong with that?
Ed: I’d rather marry Nymo!
Char: Hey! *throws a pillow at him*
Ed: *laughs* Anyway, thanks!
Char: For what? For wanting to marry you? Well, I’ve changed my mind!
Ed: *laughs* No, for cheering me up. Really, thanks. My world was crashing down but having this nonsensical conversation with you somehow makes all my worries disappear!
Char: *giggles* Same here too!
