*At the airport*
Mother: *tearfully* You worked so hard and saved so much just so that you can find Eun Ju and Jin-Seok. You bring them back, okay? Don’t worry about me. You take care of yourself over there.
Eun Suh: *sobs* I’m going to miss you, Mother.
Mother: Me too. *cups her face in her hands* Make sure you come back, okay? Don’t forget about me…but *sobs* I will understand if you want to stay with your father. I know I should’ve let you go with him right from the start. He was right…I will never be a good mother. You suffered so much…..If you’ve followed your dad, you’ll probably be living off like a princess! I’m sorry for putting you through so much pain.
Eun Suh: No. No. I love you and to me, you’re the best mother in the world! I’m proud of you, Mother! Even if I had to make the choice all over again, I would still chose to remain with you. Please don’t blame yourself, Mother. I will come back and I won’t come back alone. You’ll see Eun Ju and Jin-Seok right beside me.
Mother: *sobs* Thank you. Thank you. *hugs her* I love you, Eun Suh. You’ll be all alone in an unknown place….
Eun Suh: I’ll be fine. Don’t worry about me.
Jun Mei: I’ll take care of Aunty for you. Don’t worry about it okay? Go to Hong Kong and make sure you make an impact there! Make sure everyone knows who Eun Suh is!
Eun Suh: *giggles through her tears* I’m going to miss you…Thanks, Mei.
Jun Mei: You’re welcome. You better go now or we’ll be forever hugging and crying until you misses your flight!
Eun Suh: *hugs her* Take care. I promise that I’ll write often. *kisses her mother* Goodbye mother. I’ll find the twins and bring them back.
Eun Suh still had tears in her eyes when she was alone in the airplane. Looking out from the window, she slowly waved goodbye to Korea and it grew smaller and smaller from her view. She took out the drawings by Eun Ju and Jin-Seok and smiled as memories of them flashes through her mind. Although the drawings are now old and nearly colourless, to her, they’re still the most beautiful drawings that she had ever seen. She misses them a lot and she had dreamt of this day all through her life. A day when she will finally have the chance to see them again. She hugged the drawings close to her heart and fell into a peaceful sleep.
Hours later, she was woken up by the airhostess and was surprised that she had slept throughout the whole journey. She was disappointed because she had planned to enjoy every moment of it because she had never been on an airplane before. She didn’t sleep well last night because she was too anxious and excited. Instead, she stayed up whole night looking at the old photo albums and going through the twins’ toys that her mother had saved for memories. She remembered everything about the twins, how they used to laugh and how they used to mispronounced their words. Putting on a happy smile, Eun Suh stepped into the huge Hong Kong International Airport. There were a lot of people in the airport but she finally spotted board, bearing her name. She spotted a girl with streaks of pink on hair and a boy who has the sweetest smile ever.
Eun Suh: *shyly* Hello. My name’s Eun Suh.
Girl: *chuckles* Well, you’re in luck! This girl speaks perfect English!
Boy: *sighs* What a relief! I haven’t spoke Korean for ages now! I would have messed it up terribly!
Girl: *rolls her eyes* Yeah and embarrass yourself in front of this pretty lady, right?
Boy: *ignores her* Anyway, my name’s Won Bin and this is Gillian. We’re sent by the university to pick you up.
Eun Suh: *smiles* Hi, Gillian.
Girl: *coldly* You can call me Gill
Eun Suh: Nice to meet both of you. Won Bin? That sounds Korean!
Won Bin: Yeah, I am a Korean but my parents migrated here when I was just a little kid so my Korean skills are only half past six! Basically, I’m a Korean who doesn’t speak Korean!
Eun Suh: *giggles* Well, you should really be ashamed of yourself then!
Gill: As if he knows how to be ashamed of himself! His skin is as thick as the elephant’s skin!
Won Bin: Gillian Chung! You really have the nerve….
Gill: *challenges* The nerve to what?
Won Bin: *sighs* This will be the worst day of my life. I can’t believe Mr Chong partnered us together…I wonder what’s wrong with him.
Gill: As if I like being here with you! You know very well how much I hate people like you!
Won Bin: People like me?
Eun Suh: *coughs* Um….should we get going?
Won Bin & Gill: Fine!
Won Bin: Umm…is that all you have? *pointing to the her bags*
Eun Suh: Yeah, that’s all I have…
Gill: Yeah, you think everyone is as lucky as you?
Won Bin: *ignores her* I’ll help you with that *takes Eun Suh’s bags*
Before Eun Suh could protest, Won Bin took charge over the bags. Eun Suh followed them as they both stormed off angrily. She actually finds them really funny, to be quarrelling like little kids when they’re obviously grown-ups. From her observation, both Won Bin and Gillian are definitely from two different social groups. Gillian looks more punk with her baggy jeans and numerous earrings on her ears. Her hair is also streaked with pink and she spotted two tattoos, one on her neck and the other on her ankle. They’re both in the shape of a butterfly. She is however beautiful and she would be even more if she would just smile. Her stoned expressionless face definitely drives everyone away! Won Bin, on the other hand is well dressed and carries himself well. He has a sense of humour and is always smiling. That smile of his certainly would melt anyone’s heart, including hers! She concluded him to be rich when she saw his black Porsche. She had admired this car ever since the first time she saw it in a magazine and to be standing right in front of it, simply took her breath away.
Won Bin: Look, my car is only a two seater so Gillian, you know what to do.
Eun Suh: Oh! Umm…maybe I should take a bus or something?
Gill: *smirks* No, you go along with the airhead. This is your first time here anyway. I don’t want to be responsible if you got lost or anything like that…
Won Bin: Plus, I don’t want her *pointing at Gill* to dirty my car anymore.
Eun Suh: I really don’t know….
Gill: Go on. I would die if I’m being cooped up another minute with this loser! I know my way around so I’ll see you back at the university. Nice meeting you. Just beware of him…he’s good at sweet talking girls to do things that they didn’t want to do….
Eun Suh: *smiles* You too. I’ll be careful.
Won Bin: Come on, let’s go!
Eun Suh: Are you sure she’s going to be okay? After all, she’s just a girl….
Won Bin: Oh, you don’t worry about her. She’ll scare everyone and everything away with her laser mouth! I'm sorry about her coldness towards you...She's just like that, the Ice Queen of our university!
Eun Suh: *giggles* How come the two of you are on each other’s throats so much?
Won Bin: Let’s just say we’re from two different schools of thoughts. From what I’ve heard, she’s been through a terrible childhood and for some unknown reason, she hate guys like me….It’s either she’s jealous or there’s something seriously wrong with her. I mean I’ve tried to get along with her because she is after all, one of my classmates but that girl’s attitude just drives me nuts!
Eun Suh: *smiles* She’s probably just egoistic but I believe there is some goodness in her. It just takes time to bring it out of her.
Won Bin: Trust me, she’s beyond any help. She practically hates everyone around her! The further you stay away from her, the better.
Eun Suh: I’m sure she has her reasons….
Won Bin: Whatever. Let’s not talk about her anymore, she’s spoiling my day! Come on, get in the car before the university send out a search party for you!
Eun Suh: *blushes* Actually, I don’t know how to open the doors….
Won Bin: What? *tries to suppress his giggles* I’ll help you. You better get use to it because I’ll be fetching you everyday.
Eun Suh: Huh?
Won Bin: Well, I can’t let a beautiful girl like you walk to classes everyday!
Eun Suh: *blushes* I’ll be staying in the dorm…that’ll be near the university right?
Won Bin: About 15 minutes walk….Don’t worry, I’ll fetch you. I’ve got nothing to do anyway!
Eun Suh: Don’t you have classes to go?
Won Bin: Yeah but it’ll probably be the same time…you’re in Year 1 for designing too right?
Eun Suh: Nope, I’m in Year 3, taking up psychology.
Won Bin: *chokes on his mint* What?
Eun Suh: *laughs* Yep, I’m older than you! I'm your senior so I don't date juniors!
Won Bin: *giggles* Well, don’t judge a book by its cover!
Eun Suh: Guess you won’t be fetching me anymore right?
Won Bin: *laughs* You’re one funny girl, Eun Suh….never met anyone like you before.
Eun Suh: Is it because I don’t fall for your to your feet like every other girl does?
Won Bin: *sighs* Yeah, that and *sighs* how can I argue with a Psychology student?
Eun Suh: *laughs* Yeah, so you better admit defeat! Anyway, how come the university sent you and Gillian?
Won Bin: Well, I was sent because I’m supposedly to be the only “ Korean” and Gill…well, I really don’t know! Probably, the university was afraid that I would kidnap you or something …
Eun Suh: *laughs* Some kind of reputation you have….
Won Bin: Hey! I’m proud of it! Anyway, you’re here on scholarship right? You must be really smart….
Eun Suh: *blush* Not really…
Won Bin: Oh well, welcome to the university! This is the place where you will be for a couple of years!
Eun Suh: Wow! It is beautiful!
Won Bin: Believe me, you’ll get sick of this place sooner or later!
Won Bin parked his car and quickly opens the door for Eun Suh as she was having trouble opening from the inside too. He decided not to make a big deal about it because he didn’t want to embarrass her. He finds this girl rather intriguing and felt attracted to her. She was simple and yet divine, unlike those popular girls whom practically paint their faces red with their makeup. Eun Suh seems not to notice that she is indeed a very beautiful girl and Won Bin decided to make it a point to make sure that she realizes that. He felt at ease with her and almost wishes that their university was situated in a faraway land so that he could spend more time with her. This girl is special and he knew that perhaps, he has finally found the one. The one who could finally make him smile and laugh straight from the heart. Eun Suh was looking at the beautiful surrounding when she saw a familiar figure waving at her.
Eun Suh: *gasps* Gillian!
Won Bin: Huh? Where?
Gill: Here, you moron! How come it took you so long to get here?
Won Bin: How come you’re so fast?
Gill: *rolls her eyes* I’m not dumb you know, I had it all figured out. Shawn was waiting for me at the car park.
Won Bin: No wonder. Not everyone drives like your boyfriend. Some of us actually value our lives…
Gill: *snaps* He’s not my boyfriend *blows a bubble from her chewing gum*
Won Bin: *playfully burst it with his fingers*
Eun Suh: *laughs* That’s funny!
Gill: *cries* How dare you?
Won Bin: *giggles* Sorry, it was just too tempting!
Gill: I’m going to make you pay for this!
Eun Suh: Chill, guys! Can you guys not scream at each other for a minute? Gill, it was only meant to be joke and Won Bin…..
Won Bin & Gill: No!
Eun Suh: *sighs* Well then, can at least one of you show me where is the principal’s office?
Won Bin & Gill: *points to their right* There!
Eun Suh shook her head as she slowly make way to the office, leaving them to quarrel. They’re picking faults with each other and Eun Suh knew that if she doesn’t walk away, she’s going to blow up too. After all, they were quarreling practically over nothing at all. She tried to look for signs to the office but she ended up losing her way. She wanted to ask for directions but nobody seems to be bothered about her, it was as if she was invisible.
Boy: Hey, are you lost?
Eun Suh: Umm…actually I’m looking for my way to the office.
Boy: Well, I’m going there too. Mind if I accompany you there?
Eun Suh: *smiles* Thanks.
Boy: You must be new here. I’m Nicholas but you can call me Nic for short.
Eun Suh: I’m Eun Suh and I just got here today…
Nic: Oh! Don’t tell me that you’re the scholarship girl from Korea?
Eun Suh: Yep, that’s me.
Nic: I thought Gillian was supposed to escort you!
Eun Suh: Well, she’s busy quarelling with Won Bin.
Nic: *sighs* Forgive my sister…she can be a pest sometimes. She’s forever picking up fights with guys!
Eun Suh: Your sister?
Nic: *smiles* Hard to believe eh? We’re both the total opposites! Well, actually it’s a long story. Will tell you some other time. There’s the office. Goodbye!
Eun Suh: I thought you’re going to the office too?
Nic: Well, ummm….I was but I’ve changed my mind. See you around, Eun Suh!
Eun Suh: Nice meeting you! Thanks!
Nic quickly walk away, relieved that Eun Suh didn’t ask him any further. He wasn’t going to the office; in fact he was on his way to the complete opposite direction. However, was blown away with Eun Suh’s beauty when he spotted her in the hallway. She definitely stood out from the rest in the hall and when she needed directions to the office, Nic decided to grab this opportunity to get to know more of this girl. If he didn’t believed in love at first sight in the past, he believes it now because he had fallen for Eun Suh. That few minutes of conversation with her confirmed his feelings for her. She’s simple and yet divine.
