*At the cafeteria*
Won Bin: *frustrated* Okay! Okay! I give up!
Ed: Yes! So who is she?
Won Bin: Really, Ed. You’re annoying! You know, not everyone has a brain like yours. Some people actually have to listen to their lectures!
Ed: *giggles* Sorry. Anyway, you don’t use that as an excuse! You never listened during lectures! You were either falling asleep or busy chatting with the girls behind you. Plus, I noticed you were looking at your watch throughout the lesson!
Char: Guys! What is going on? Why are the two of you whispering throughout the whole lecture? You know Gill was about to blow up back there!
Gill: Yes. If the class were a minute longer, I would’ve screamed at you guys to shut up!
Won Bin: You ask your boyfriend over here….
Char: *blush* He’s not my boyfriend….
Ed: *whines* Won has a new girlfriend but he refuses to tell me!
Gill: Really, Ed. Stop whining like a baby!
Ed: *sticks out his tongue* Really Gill, can you stop being a grandmother?
Gill:*rolls her eyes*
Char: Don’t you guys start again. So Won, a new one already? What happened to Charmaine?
Won Bin: Well…she wasn’t my type to start off with.
Ed: But I think he’s pretty serious about this one….
Char: Well, who is she?
Ed: Yeah, who? Who?
Won Bin: *rolls his eyes* Great, now I have two annoying friends…There she is! *waving at Eun Suh* Eun Suh!
Ed & Char: Oooh….Eun Suh.
Eun Suh just entered the cafeteria, which is buzzing with so many people that it was hard for her to find Won Bin. She turned over to ask Nic for help but he had already disappeared after showing her where the cafeteria is. She finally spotted Won Bin right at the back of the cafeteria, waving at her. She waved back and slowly makes her way towards him. She noticed that he had some friends with him and indirectly it relieved her because she thought she was going to eat with him. After all, she did not want to send any more wrong signals to him.
Eun Suh: *referring to Won Bin & Gill* Hey guys!
Won Bin: Hey there! I’m so…..
Ed: *nudges him* Introduce us!
Won Bin: *sighs* This is Edison and Charlene, the world’s best looking couple!
Ed & Char: *blushes* No! We’re just friends!
Eun Suh: *smiles shyly* Nice to meet the both of you but really, you two look good together!
Won Bin: *laughs* See? I’m not the only one! You two really deserve each other!
Ed: Just ignore him, okay? Anyway, Eun Suh is a nice name…a really nice one. It reminds me of something but hmm…I don’t know what it is
Char: *laughs* I bet it reminds you of Autumn in My Heart! The actress’ name was Eun Suh in that show!
Ed: Oh, no wonder! Charlene here, practically tie me to the chair and asked me to watch it with her!
Char: It was good wasn’t it?
Ed: Luckily it is good or else you’ll probably won’t be standing here today!
Char: *giggles* Thought it would be a good show to teach you how to love and appreciate what you have now.
Ed: Pah! I don’t need any education from you!
Won Bin: Ed, she’s giving you hints!
Eun Suh: *smiles* You guys actually have Korean shows over here too?
Char: *ignoring Won Bin* Yeah, I’m an addict when it comes to Korean dramas! They’re all really touching and meaningful!
Gill: I’m sure Eun Suh already knows that, Char. You don’t have to go into one of your Korean lectures again! Anyway, are you guys going to stand here forever without eating?
Won Bin: Oh yeah! I totally forgot! What do you girls want? We’ll get it for you!
Eun Suh: It’s okay…I can get mine myself
Gill: No, no sit down. This is the boys’ job….Just give them your orders and they’ll bring it for you.
Won Bin: Oh, I’m sorry Gillian. We’re only getting for Eun Suh and Charlene. You’re welcome to get it yourself, you know…
Gill: You….
Ed: Look, I’ll get it for you. What do you want, Gill?
Won Bin: Hey! Why are you always standing up for Gill?
Ed: Umm…no reason.
Won Bin: Oh my! Ed! You’re blushing! Don’t tell me….
Gill: Your jokes aren’t funny, Won Bin. Ed’s just doing that because he doesn’t want us to quarrel…isn’t that right?
Ed: *blush* Yes. Yes.
Gill: Just like Char. Apple pie and chocolate milk. How about you Eun Suh?
Eun Suh: Umm…I guess it’s the same with the girls..
Ed: Okay, done! Come on, Won!
Won Bin: *looking from Ed to Gill* Hmm…something is really fishy here…
Ed: *pulls him along* Won! Come on!
*After the guys are gone*
Eun Suh: *laughs* How do you guys actually survive each other?
Char: It takes a miracle! Really Gill, you should give the boys some time off…
Gill: I don’t like them and I don’t think I’ll ever will. Really girls, you should stay away from guys like them! They’re only going to play around with your feelings!
Char: Really, Gill. It doesn’t mean all guys are evil just because you met one. Not all guys are like Daniel.
Gill: Don’t you dare mention his name again!
Char: I’m sorry….
For a moment, Eun Suh thought she saw tears forming in Gillian’s eyes but it was only for a split second before Gillian turned away. Eun Suh was curious as to Gillian’s background and felt the sudden urge to help her because she knew that behind those icy looks of her, Gillian has a warm heart. She must have gone through a hurtful ordeal to end up being who she is today. However, before Eun Suh could ask any further, the boys are back with the food. Gillian took her food and walked away, without saying another word.
Won Bin: What happened to her?
Char: Daniel slipped out of my mouth again…
Ed: What? You know how much that affects her!
Char: *surprise* I…err….I
Ed: You always say things before going through your brain, Char!
Char: *hurt* Why are you so concerned over her?
Ed: You know she’s going through a tough period…with her childhood and now Daniel….
Char: What childhood?
Ed: Nothing…
Char: What did she tell you about her family? How come you know so much about her? I’m staying with her and yet she doesn’t tell me anything!
Ed: That’s because you’re never a good friend to her!
Won Bin: Whoa! Guys! Guys! Calm down!
Ed: *sighs* No point talking to you, Char. You’ll never understand. I’m going to find Gill. See you guys later. *walks away*
Won Bin: Umm…Char….
Char: It’s okay. I’m fine.
Won Bin: He’s probably just…
Char: Don’t. I’m okay *takes a bite from her apple pie*
It was really awkward as the three of them sat in silence. Neither Won Bin nor Eun Suh could cheer her up because nothing they said made her feel any better. It was obvious that Charlene was hurt with Edison’s words and she was fighting back her tears. Edison is her best friend, one that she could really count on no matter what. She cares from him and sure soon enough, she developed some feelings for him. However, she never confessed her feelings fearing that he wouldn’t feel the same way about her and fearing that she would jeopardize their friendship. She was hurt by his words but her heart broke to see him caring so much for Gillian. Who is Gillian to him anyway? They’re barely friends and Gillian hated him more than anything in the world. Why then is he so concerned over her? Excusing herself from the table, she ponders over the questions as she makes her way out.
Eun Suh: Wow! Your life is full of dramas ya?
Won Bin: *blushes* Sorry about that.
Eun Suh: No. No. It wasn’t your fault. You guys probably watch too much Korean dramas. Anyway, you should really tell Ed to go easy on Char…
Won Bin: *laughs* Too much Korean dramas? *sighs* I know…It’s always that stupid Gill again. She’s always the cause of all problems!
Eun Suh: Don’t blame her…she’s actually a nice person once you get to know her!
Won Bin: If only she’ll give me a chance!
Eun Suh: *smiles* I’m sure she will. Anyway, I’ve got to go now. My class starts earlier today…
Won Bin: *pouts* Do you really have to?
Eun Suh: *laughs* Obviously! See you later!
Won Bin: What time does your class end then?
Eun Suh: At 3. Why?
Won Bin: *winks* I’ll wait for you in the car park! Goodbye!
Eun Suh: What? No!
Won Bin: Bye! *walks away, ignoring her protest*
Edison was relieved when he finally found Gillian near the water fountain. He felt bad for blowing up with Charlene and made a promise to himself that he would apologize to her later. He didn’t know why he was so concerned about Gillian but he somehow felt the need to protect her. Perhaps, it was because she had trusted him with her deepest secret. A secret about her tormented past. A secret that Edison had stumbled upon accidentally. Despite the strong front she’s putting up, she’s actually really weak inside. Edison knew that because he had seen a softer side of her before.
Ed: Gill….are you okay?
Gill: *muffles* Leave me alone!
Ed: *noticing that her eyes are red* Okay. Just remember, if you need anyone to talk to…I’m always here.
Gill: *silent*
Edison decided to walk away and give some space to Gillian. It is sufficient for him to know that she is okay. He knew that Gillian puts her pride first before anything else and she would not have wanted him to see her cry. However, he was surprised when Gillian whispered a soft thank you. With a smile, Edison walked away, knowing that Gillian is going to be all right.
