Later on, she found out that Edison had to leave so abruptly because his grandfather had passed away. He couldn’t have stayed back for her even if he wanted to because Gillian knew close he is to his family. Although his parents never had the time for him, that doesn’t mean that he would love them any lesser. He also has a younger sister whom he doted on so much. He really wanted Gillian to meet her but they never really got the chance to meet up.
It’s been nearly two months since Edison left and Gillian went through her life in motion. She felt lost without him, as if a part of her was missing. She missed him so much that she would cry herself to sleep very single night, wondering if he will ever come back. It was through this hope of seeing him again that motivated Gillian to get on with her life. She knew she needed to stay strong, that was the least that she could do for Edison. She regretted not appreciating him when he is there for her and most of all, for pushing him away when he needed her most. Though filled with regrets, Gillian’s love for him only grew stronger as each day passes by. She struggled and tried to be the one who would deserve Edison’s love.
To be someone who would be strong for him
To be someone who would give him all her heart
To be someone who would give up the world
Just to see him smile
Just to hear him laugh
Just to feel the warmth of his embrace
That someone would be her
That someone has to be her.
That someone is her.
Gillian winced in pain as she put some cream on her badly blistered soles of her feet. Those were the only cruel reminder of how she had failed to stop the love of her life from leaving. She had run all the way to the airport barefooted and didn’t even realize that her feet were badly blistered until much later. In fact, the pain couldn’t even measure up to the pain she felt in losing Edison. She had taken Edison for granted, always believing that he would be there for her whenever she needs him. However, she was wrong. Now is the time when she will have to learn how to stand on her own two feet.
She smiled when she took out a box that was labeled with Edison’s name. She had meant for this to be the box that would hold the memories of them starting a beautiful relationship together. However, things were not meant to be when she lost him even before she could accept him into her heart.
Instead, she filled the box with her letters for him. She wrote one to him each day, expressing her feelings and letting him into her most private thoughts. She could not send those letters to him because she did not have his address. She could only hope that he would return to her one day so that he could read all of it himself. In it, she also composed music for him, hoping that he would be able find the correct words to be the lyrics. If Fate is on their side, Gillian is sure that they will meet again someday.
Ever since he left, Gillian began to open her heart to other people and in the process, starts making a lot of friends in the college. She turned into a new leaf, one that is admired and loved by all in the college. She was no longer the Ice Queen that they’ve all known not too long ago. She started joining clubs and more activities after class so that she would be too occupied to dwell too much on her heartache. Piece by piece, she slowly mend her broken heart. However, her heart is still incomplete because it is still missing a huge piece to it. Edison can only complete her heart because he’s the only one that holds the missing piece to her heart.

Gillian was nervous, as she got ready for the Talent Show that her college has organized. This will be the first time that she would play the piano on stage, right in front of so many people. She knew she had to do this; she had to play for Edison’s sake. When her name was finally announced, Gillian made her way to the piano, without looking up at the crowd.
She closed her eyes and began playing the beautiful melody that she has composed for Edison. The whole hall was silent as they listened to her play because it was simply too beautiful. It was as if they could feel exactly what she is feeling when she plays. It was as if they could feel her sadness, her regrets, her missing that someone and her deepest love for that someone. She was playing for Edison and a tear rolled down her cheeks as the memories they’ve shared together began to flash in her mind. She misses him, more than anything in the world.
She was shocked when she heard someone singing to her song. It was the exact lyrics. It was the exact voice. She thought she was hallucinating but when she opened her eyes, standing right in front of her is Edison. Shock overcomes her as she stared at him in disbelief. Edison just smiled and went on singing, hinting her to continue playing. She continued playing but her eyes never left Edison. When they finished, the whole hall erupted into loud applauses. Edison took her hand and they bowed in appreciation to the crowd. All this time, Gillian’s eyes were on Edison.
“Ed! When…How…did you…” Gillian fumbled with her words as soon as they’re on backstage.
“I’m sorry, Gill for leaving without telling you. I tried but you wouldn’t give me the chance” Edison apologized quickly.
“You could at least tried harder” Gillian said, pretended to feel offended.
“I did! I called you when I was in the airport but I couldn’t get through to you. I waited till the very last minute, hoping to see you before I go. I really wanted to see you, Gill. I even called you when I reach Canada but I still couldn’t get through” Edison explained.
“I was just kidding. I tried to call you too; perhaps that’s why we couldn’t through to one another. I was so angry and frustrated that I…err…threw my cell away. I don’t have any cell with me anymore” Gillian answered, slightly blushing.
“You ‘re unpredictable at times, Gillian Chung” said Edison with a laugh.
“Ed…I have so much things to tell you. I’m so sorry for taking you for granted and not appreciating you. I’m sorry for all the hurt I’ve caused you. Ed, I….” Gillian started but was cut off.
“It’s okay, Gill. There’s nothing to apologize. We’ll talk later, okay? Now, I really want you to meet someone! You wait here, okay?” Edison said excitedly.
“But Ed…” Gillian started but he is already making his way through the crowd. “I wanted to tell you how much I love you”
Gillian’s hopes came crashing down when Edison came back hand in hand with a girl, around their age or maybe younger. The girl is pretty and is someone that would match Edison perfectly. Gillian suddenly felt smaller and unwanted. Who is she to Edison anyway? She caught Edison whispering something to her ears that made her laugh and at that precise moment, Gillian felt as if her heart was being shredded to pieces.
“Gill, I would like you to meet Charlene. She’s my….”
“Girlfriend” Charlene cuts in before he could finish his sentence.
“Char! What are you talking about?” shrieked Edison.
“Oh, darling! You don’t have to be shy. Gill’s your old friend, isn’t she?” said Charlene sweetly, grabbing Edison’s hands tightly.
“Wow. How long have you two been dating?” asked Gillian, swallowing the lump in her throat.
“Forever! We were separated when he moved here but now, we’ll never be separated again because I’m moving in with him!” replied Charlene, planting a kiss on Edison’s cheeks.
Tears were brimming in Gillian’s eyes but she kept herself in control and refused to cry in front of them. Gillian noticed that Edison was uncomfortable and turning paler and paler by the minute. Was he feeling guilty or is Charlene merely making things up? She was suspicious but when she realized that Edison is holding onto Charlene’s hands tightly, she knew it was over. She was hurt, devastated and disappointed. She quickly excused herself and walked away before breaking into a run. Tears were streaming down uncontrollably as she ran away from them. It's over. Everything is over. She had lost him for good this time.
She had lost him once
And she had found him
But now she had lost him forever.
Was it his fault?
Was it her fault?
His fault for letting her go without a fight?
Her fault for letting him slip through her fingers?
Or was it Fate’s fault?
For bringing them together only to separate them again?
