Chapter 19

Another Beginning

Donghae was left with Yoon Ah in the room; he was pacing back and forth without knowing what to do or how to act. He was taken aback by Jessica’s words, words that struck him.

“I really did fall in love with you, didn’t I?” Donghae asked the sleeping Yoona. He sat at a chair near her bed and held her hand as if it were the last time he’ll be able to hold it.

“I know I fell for Jessica…but now, seeing you, I can’t even remember how hard I fell for her. Yoona, please wake up… I know you’ll hate me the moment you see me, but I don’t care… Just open your eyes… Yoona, I haven’t told you my real feelings yet… Yoona, please…”

Donghae was holding Yoona’s hand tightly while saying this, “Yoona, I…”

“Uhmmm…Mmm…” and then he felt her squeeze his hand.

“Jessica-unnie sure was scary. She was like an angel with a devilishly strong body! Whoa. And did you see her slap Donghae? That was just… Amazing.” Sooyoung spoke while chomping her burger.

“Yeah, I mean her slap was nothing compared to my slap! She was strong! Wow, I never imagined someone so beautiful be as… as… as… Eh, what do you call that?” Taeyeon began scratching her head as she tried to recall what word would fit Jessica’s character.

Kibum was just looking at them as he took a bite out of his own burger; they were sitting on one of the tables in the cafeteria of the hospital. They left Yoon Ah’s room when Jessica asked them to. Now, he was wondering what happened to the ‘ex-couple’ the moment they left. She knew Jessica fairly well enough; he knew that she would never EVER allow anyone to hurt her sister in any way possible. Jessica loves her sister all too much.

“Jessica-unnie… She’s one heck of an amajjing woman! I idolize her!” Yuri said as she stood up and imitated Jessica’s pose earlier and said,

“Hae… The hell with you. If it wasn’t for you, my sister wouldn’t have been hurting so much. I don’t even allow her to be bitten by a mosquito, I usually get into fights just to defend her, and I usually hurt myself…just for her…all for her sake. How can you hurt her like that, Lee Donghae?”

Kibum and the rest began bursting into laughter as they heard the exact words Jessica used to Donghae.

“You can be an actress Yuri! You’ll earn dozen of awards… Best Imitator of All Time!” Sooyoung commented.

Yuri looked at them and laughed along with them, and before she sat down she looked at Kibum and smiled, “At least you’re laughing now…”

“Thanks to you, Kwon Yuri…” Kibum said in between his laughs.

Yuri blushed but then she smiled sweetly and added, “No big deal.”

Jessica was in the convenience store buying some food when her phone rang, “Yes?”

“She’s awake? Thank God. Okay, I’ll be right over.” Jessica hung up, before she dialed another number in her phone. And though she tried to stop it, her hands were still shaking when she placed her phone in her ears and like a whisper, she said…

“Dad, Yoon Ah’s back.”

************************************************************
“Who are you?” Yoon Ah asked the guy in front of her, but before he could answer, she sat up and answered for him, “Oh, Lee Donghae.”

“Yoona, I’m…”

“It’s Yoon Ah, Im Yoon Ah.” Yoona said, staring at Donghae with such coldness that made his heart sunk.

Donghae smiled, she was still very pretty. Though there was a difference in the way she talk, the way she move, and even with the way she look at him, Donghae knew that she was still the Yoona he’s fallen in love with. She was still Yoona, with the slightest difference of having her memory back.

“Well, we haven’t personally met before but I’ve heard a lot of things about you. You’re my sister’s ex-boyfriend, right? So, what are you doing here, if I may ask?”

Donghae looked at her; she spoke clearly, without hesitation and full of confidence. Im Yoon Ah, Im Jessica’s sister, was indeed back.

“I’m supposed to look after you, I guess.” Donghae smirked. He was amused, but guilty at the same time. Yoona does create wonders when it comes to his feelings towards her. He can be excited and all tingly whenever she’s there. Even if he felt guilty, he’ll always feel electricity run throughout his body the moment their eyes meet. And though he’s mad and irritated because of the situation, he’d still feel every explosion of his veins with her every move.

“Oh. But just so you know Mr. Lee, I don’t need you.” Yoon Ah said, looking straight into his face, as if bringing his whole being back to reality. She really did seem confident, but the moment their eyes met, she pulled away from the stare and just looked at her hand like some shy highschool girl.

“Really? Then why don’t you tell that straight to my face then, while looking into my eyes, All Mighty Im Yoon Ah?” Donghae said smirking again, while his eyes never left her pretty face.

“Mr. Lee…”

“You’ve always called me Donghae. Why don’t you do it now?”

“I’ve never called you by that name even when you were still dating my sister.” Yoon Ah said smiling yet it wasn’t the smile Donghae knew. It was different from Yoona’s smiles, it was full of pain and… sadness.

“Why?”

“I never liked you. And I don’t want to be attached to you, in any way…”

“What if I tell you that you’re already attached to me, without you realizing it?” Donghae asked as he stood up and went to his bag to get a small notebook, “You’ve even write lots of things about me…”

Yoon Ah laughed bitterly, “That can’t be… I absolutely don’t want anything to do with you, Mr. Lee-“

“Lee Donghae by the way… is such a HUGE MEAN OLD JERK!” Donghae laughed and looked at her again, “Am I that bad?”

Yoon Ah smiled, “Judging from here, you are a jerk after all. You seem amusing, Mr. Lee; but still that doesn’t change the fact that I don’t like you.”

“Yoona, I’m sorry.” Donghae suddenly said as he came up to Yoon Ah and held her hand, “I’m sorry.”

“What? I… Sorry for what, Mr. Lee? And will you move away please? You’re too close….” Yoon Ah said looking away, but she didn’t even dare pull her hand away.

“Am I forgiven?” Donghae insisted, still holding unto Yoon Ah’s hand.

She then sighed but smiled at him and said softly, “You are indeed amusing. But I still don’t know what you’re talking about so-“

“Stop it. Yoona, I’m sorry. I know that the moment you’ll wake up, all your memories will come back but… But why does your memory of me, my family, and our friends be erased? Yoona, can’t you remember anything before?”

“I remember everything, actually. From my childhood years, to the times where I had to appear strong and perfect for everybody, until I’ve been chosen as the CEO of our company, to the time when I was kidnapped by who-knows-who, and to the accident where I eventually survived… So now I’m here, right?”

“You don’t remember anything after you had the accident? But Yoona, a lot has happened. What about Taeyeon? Sooyoung? Yuri? You remember them, right?”

“Who? I… I don’t think I know them, why? Wait, what’s wrong? I mean… I’m here because of the accident, right? I was kidnapped, but as they were taking me away from home, we met an accident and the van exploded but I was able to escape. So, I’m here.” Yoon Ah said, holding her head and closing her eyes, as if trying to remember what really happened.

“After the accident, I saw you. You were weak and you have no memory at all, that’s why I had to take you home and eventually take care of you. We both stayed at the same house, we’ve been at the same school. You could ask Kibum, he was with us. He became our classmate.”

“I don’t remember anything about those things at all. Are you sure it was me?” Yoon Ah asked Donghae, her innocent face showing clear curiosity and doubt.

“Yes, it’s you.”

“But… Why can’t I remember anything at all?”

“How I wish I know the reason, Yoona.”

“Maybe… Maybe that’s why I feel so incomplete. Maybe that’s why I feel that something’s missing. I think… I think I need to remember…”

Yoon Ah stared at Donghae for long, and then she sighed and said,

“I’d like to…start again. Show me everything…Donghae.”
