Chapter 10

Looking at her watch, Rain continues to scan around the rather large home-styled coffeehouse, and seeing no sign of Raymond, looks back down at her glass of orange juice.

“Rain.”

Rain quickly looks up at the call of her name, but turns to not see Raymond, “Hey Edison, what are you doing here?”

Edison takes a seat across from Rain at the small, glazed wooden table, and takes a breath of air before starting. “Raymond gave me a call, and told me to come here and tell you that he can’t make it for lunch today.”

Rain slowly receives the information given, but does not show much of an reaction, “Oh.”

“Disappointed?” Edison asks, hearing Rain’s response.

Rain smiles slightly, “Sort of.”

Seeing Rain smile, Edison too cheers up, “Still up for lunch?”

Rain chuckles, “Still hungry.”

“Thanks,” Michelle gestures, as she takes the wrapped box of chocolate in hand from inside a classy sweet shop, mainly designed with glass.

Turning around towards the entrance, Michelle cannot believe her eyes, as she sees from out the glass, Raymond with the same girl she last encountered him with a month ago.

Without thinking, Michelle quickly storms outside.

“Raymond Lam!”

Raymond, after seeing Lily off, turns around to the call of his name, and sees an outraged Michelle approaching him, “Michelle?”

“What the hell do you think you are doing!?” Michelle immediately demands from Raymond. “I thought Ron already talked to you, you’re still seeing someone else behind Rain’s back.”

“No, let me explain,” Raymond quickly runs for words.

“Then please do so, now,” Michelle says sarcastically, holding her anger back.

“Okay, there is nothing between Lily and I,” Raymond starts, and almost instantly catches his mistake.

Michelle, fed up, “Why must that be the first thing every guy says when he tries to find an excuse, first Benny, now you!”

Raymond, totally caught off guard by the unknown comparison, does not respond.

Knowing her emotions were getting the best of her, Michelle takes a deep breath, “If I ever find out that you are still trying to step on two boats at once, I will make sure that Rain knows about it,” she warns, turning around and walks off.

“Omigosh, Edison, look,” Rain gasps, quickly running up to the glass window of a toy store.

Edison, not knowing what was going on, walks up to the glass window next to Rain, and turns from her to the object she was looking at.

“Aren’t they soooo adorable,” Rain gushes, as she looks at a miniature set of ceramic dolls of a little boy and girl. “They’re called ‘Gift Dolls,’” she explains the reason of the boy holding a little gift box out towards the girl.

Edison looks at Rain, who was still looking at the Gift Dolls, “Why don’t you get it then?”

“Can’t,” says Rain, sighing, “That wouldn’t be special at all.”

Edison, understanding the meaning, “You want Raymond to get it for you?” he assumes. “Why don’t you tell him?”

“That would defeat the purpose even more,” Rain explains, “I want the guy who buys this, to know his reason for buying it.” Then taking deep breath, “Let’s go,” she says, turning away while looking at it longingly once more.

Edison continues to stand by the glass window for a brief moment and looks at the Gift Dolls, before following after Rain.

“Sorry Ron, got caught in a major traffic jam,” Leila explains, as she comes up from behind him and takes a seat across from him, next to a window in the glass architecture restaurant.

“No problem, I got here not long ago,” Ron assures, “Shirley Temple?” he asks knowingly.

Leila smiles to Ron’s knowledge of her favorite drink, “Yup.”

After Ron places her drink order, Leila sits up and asks, “So, what’s up with you lately? You took a couple nights off from teaching.”

“Yeah, I’ve been busy on a new proposal write-up for the company, so I had to take some time off from teaching night classes,” Ron explains, “But I should be back in the next two days.”

“It’s all right to be career-oriented, but make sure you don’t neglect your girlfriend,” Leila teases, as her Shirley Temple is set down in front of her. Then seeing that Ron had lost his smile after the comment, “Did Michelle and you get into an argument?”

Ron sighs, “No, I doubt we could ever get into an argument,” he mocks.

“So…” Leila urges.

“Well, it seems like everything is all set out and planned by her,” Ron confesses, “Dating isn’t suppose to be that way, but with our relationship, it is.”
