My Type of Girl! [Completed]

Chapter 17

Walking aimlessly down the dark street, Rain does not notice an empty pop can ahead and stumbles over it. Just before she falls, a hand reaches for her arm and pulls her back up.

“Edison?” Rain surprises upon looking up to see him.

“You have to be careful,” Edison cautions as the two of them begin walking down the street together.

Brushing off the situation, Rain asks, “How come you’re out here this late at night?”

Stopping in his tracks, Edison looks at Rain guiltily, “I saw what happened between you and Raymond at the dock,” he admits.

Caught off guard by the knowledge, Rain acknowledges the fact, “I suppose that’s a good thing, at least it’s one less person to tell,” she says, continuing to walk.

“Is this because of Lily?” Edison asks, referring to the girl, “Raymond and her really have nothing going on…”

“No, it’s not because of that,” Rain assures. “Our break up was inevitable, it would have happened regardless of whether someone was in between us.”

Edison, hearing Rain’s words, felt comforted in knowing it was not a third party that had come between them.

Driving up to the dock, Michelle parks her car, still in search of Rain. Upon reaching the dock, she only sees one figure sitting on the stone bench. “Raymond?”

Raymond, looking to call, acknowledges Michelle as he turns his attention back to the ground.

Almost knowingly, Michelle slowly walks up to and sits down next to Raymond, “You talked to Rain?”

After a moment’s hesitation, Raymond tells her, “We broke up.”

Shocked at sudden knowledge, Michelle does not know how to respond only looks to Raymond for a reaction.

“I don’t know what went wrong?” Raymond sighs heavily in frustration. “Ever since our trip down to the cabin, seems like everything has gone downhill.”

Not hiding the fact, Michelle reveals, “Rain and I saw you with another woman this afternoon. The same one I saw you with a while ago.”

Immediately looking up at Michelle, Raymond puts it together. “Rain thinks I’m cheating on her? There is nothing between Lily and I, she was just telling me about her new boyfriend and she was just happy that she’s found the one…” Before going any further, Raymond gets up, “I have to go find Rain.”

“Thanks for hearing me out all night,” Rain gratifies, as Edison and her stop in front of her apartment building.

“No problem, just remember, I’m here whenever you need to talk,” Edison assures her, “Just a call away,” making a phone gesture with his hand.

Rain smiles in comfort, “Good night.”

Edison, not wanting to go, but considers the late night, “Good night,” he bids, turning around and heading down the street.

Seeing that Edison had walked a fair distance down the street, Rain turns to walk into the building but stops upon hearing the call of her name. Recognizing the voice, Rain turns to face Raymond.

“Rain,” Raymond takes hold of Rain’s hands in his, “Michelle told me everything, it was all a misunderstanding,” he explains. “The girl you saw me with, Lily, there was absolutely nothing between us, it was all…”

Rain, pulling her hands out of Raymond’s, “No, it’s not that Raymond,” she tells him, putting him in a confused trance. “It has nothing to with that.”

Raymond, shaking his head unknowingly, “I don’t understand…”

Feeling at guilt, Rain explains, “I’m sorry, it will never work out between us. It’s not your fault, you have treated me like the world and I truly am grateful for that. But this afternoon’s incident caused me to realize that I’m only wasting your time.” Taking a deep breath, she continues, “You have spent so much time and care for me, but I… I don’t feel that same way. And the longer I keep this from you, the longer I’m keeping you in a lie.”

Raymond, not knowing what else he can say or do to keep her, stands helplessly in front of her.

“I’m sorry,” Rain concludes, turning away from him and heading inside.

“Rain, you’re home?” Michelle surprised upon walking into the apartment and seeing Leila and Rain sitting in the living room couch. “Did you see Raymond, he was looking for you…”

“I already explained everything to him,” Rain answers her question, as Michelle seats herself onto the armchair next to Rain and Leila.

Leila looks from Rain to Michelle, “Rain really broke up with Raymond, no turning around.”

“Did you think this through?” Michelle urges, “Maybe this is all just an misunderstanding… the girl…”

“I really have decided,” Rain assures, “I really do know what I’m doing.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever known Rain to be so sure of anything,” Leila explains Rain and Raymond’s situation to Ron, as they got together for a midnight meal. “But she seems to stand so firm on her decision, I think she really has decided.”

Ron, taking in all the information he was being fed, and managing to continue eating, “Then Rain has made the right decision. If she isn’t faltering between the decision, then she knows what’s best for her and Raymond.”

“I think so too,” Leila agrees, “I told Rain I’d support her on any decision, and this may be the best one.”

“Well, now that that’s settled, any special plans for Saturday?” Ron reminds her.

Leila, immediately recalling, “Oh yeah, almost forgot about the graduate party for our class. Nine o’clock right?”

“Yup, as long as I don’t come to pick you up with you turning me away,” Ron teases. Then remembering, “We were all offered to invite a friend to attend, did you invite anyone?”

Leila, giving a mischievous smile, “Don’t know, we’ll have to see.”
