(in pub)
JERRY: (entering the pub, approaching bar) Hi.

BARTENDER: Hey Jerry, you’re a bit late tonight.

JERRY: Do I need to explain?

BARTENDER: Hey, what’s up? Out of patient huh? You only waited for a week lei, you need more patience to court girls… to make them feel your sincerity…

JERRY: Too bad she doesn’t know…

BARTENDER: Yes, I do I do. Pink lady, right?

JERRY: You rascal, laughing at me?

BARTENDER: (suddenly sees the girl) Hey look, you must be optimistic, see, your pink lady is here.

JERRY: (don’t believe) You can’t fool me!

ZOE: Hi, Jerry.

JERRY: Hi. You alone?

ZOE: My friend not here yet. Are you missing Fion?

JERRY: (a bit embarrassed) Emmmm, when will she arrive?

ZOE: Tomorrow afternoon 3 o’clock lor.

JERRY: (puzzled) What do you mean?

ZOE: Hiya… she is an air-stewardess mah, what is so strange about her returning to HK at three? I thought you were quick-witted, so disappointing…

BARTENDER: (butts in) Jerry had waited for a whole week, I think his brain has rusted.

JERRY: (jokingly) Mind your own business la… Such a busybody, no wonder business is so bad…

BARTENDER: Touchwood! Don’t you curse me, I’ll automatically disappear now.

ZOE: (curious) You have been waiting every night here for the past one week?

JERRY: (smiles) Yes.

ZOE: Are you so good to all girls?

JERRY: See got ‘feel’ or not?

ZOE: (with envy) Fion is so fortunate…

JERRY: (bewildered) Why did you say that?

ZOE: I’m sorry, actually I wouldn’t want to be a wet blanket, but I don’t want you to waste your time here. Truthfully, Fion already has a very good boyfriend.

JERRY: (heck care) So what? She didn’t get to know me earlier, that’s why.

ZOE: They are childhood playmates and grew up together.

JERRY: Not a problem. There are a lot of good men in this world, just like me, how can Fion just take him under the circumstances of no choices? I really pity her.

ZOE: (surprised) Wow, you are sure optimistic!

JERRY: I am an eligible bachelor, just that I knew her too late!

ZOE: You want to be the third party?

JERRY: Don’t make such a comment. I just feel that Fion is such a good girl, and I should use more time to make her happier.

ZOE: Why do you think she is unhappy?

JERRY: (with confidence) Before she knew me.

ZOE: You are such an egomania.

JERRY: Just speaking my mind.

ZOE: You really don’t mind the fact that she has a boyfriend?

JERRY: One shouldn’t be calculating when it comes to love. If she is true to me when we are together, I will be fully contented.

ZOE: (sighs) Why must you share a girl with another guy?

JERRY: Fion is a very special girl. As a man, I feel that I should do something for her. Love is noble.

ZOE: Do you have a younger brother or elder brother?

JERRY: I have a younger brother. Why?

ZOE: Since you are brothers, then you two must share some generic similarities. Hey, introduce him to me, so that I can find someone who dotes on me too…

JERRY: (amused) My brother is only 3 years old. (laughs)

ZOE: (shocked) Huh? Then I must wait for another 20 years huh?

(Jerry laughs again)

(the next day, at the egg-tart shop in the airport)

JERRY: Hey, boss, please give me half a dozen of egg-tarts.

BOSS: Half year later the airport will be shifted elsewhere. If you like the tarts then buy more. Hiya, I wonder business would still be brisk at the new location.

JERRY: Don’t worry, always look on the optimistic side. By the way, what time is it now?

BOSS: It’s three now.

JERRY: (nervous) Huh? I’ve to go now. Talk to you another day. (rushes off)

(Airport, Jerry looking for Fion)

MAN: Mister, your egg-tarts smell good. Did you bought it from the bakery above?

JERRY: Oh, yes.

MAN: You waiting for your friend?

JERRY: (smiles) Yup. Mister, may I know what time is it now?

MAN: It’s 3.30 p.m. now.

JERRY: Huh? So late already…

MAN: Hey, look! The air-stewardess over there is quite pretty, isn’t she?

JERRY: (look to find her) Where? (Suddenly sees Fion) Sorry, excuse me… excuse me (trying to squeeze out of the crowd) (shouts to let Fion hear him) FION… FION…

(At Fion’s side)

COLLEAGUE: Fion, there’s a guy calling your name over there. (Points to Jerry)

FION: (a bit embarrassed) Oh my god! He thinks I’m deaf? The whole airport can hear him! Everyone knows my name is Fion now. (many people turned to look at her)

JERRY: (still shouting) FION, I’m JERRY AH!

FION: (quickly walks towards him while he is running towards her) Do you need to be so exaggerative? Call my name so loud?

JERRY: (gasping for breath) I specially came to look for you, so when I saw you I can’t control my excitement. Is this an acceptable reason? Sorry, I won’t do it next time.

COLLEAGUE: Fion, I won’t hold you up. I’ll make a leave first, bye. (Walks away)

FION: No, no… (But she is already gone)

JERRY: (laughs) Ha, your pretty colleague sure knows how to act in a delicate situation.

FION: Your expectations are quite low…

JERRY: I should be polite. By the way, I have something for you. I know you would like it. (Takes out)

FION: (smells the fragrance of the tarts) These tarts smell great!

JERRY: (seriously) Accept me!

FION: (Pushes the tarts back to him) Take it back.

(Jerry suddenly kneels down)

FION: (taken aback) Why are you kneeling down? Get up!

JERRY: (childishly) No, I won’t.

FION: Ok, either you choose to kneel here for all your life or we’ll proceed to the café. We need to talk. (walks away)

JERRY: (glad) Cool! (follows her) Fion! I’m coming.

(in the café)

FION: (sits down) Let me tell you, you are really childish just now!

JERRY: (smiles) Sorry. But this indicates that I need you very much, so much so that I can put down any other things.

FION: You already kneeled down to woo me. What would you do during your proposal if you really succeed pursuing me?

JERRY: (smiles) Well, that depends on the situation.

FION: As the Chinese saying goes “Men have gold under their knees,” (which means they don’t kneel, or at least not easily)

JERRY: You’re right. But I fell for you at first sight, and our love is stronger than gold.

FION: (sighs) I have nothing more to say.

JERRY: You do! Why don’t you tell me about your trip today? Anything interesting? I am interested to share it with you. (keen look on face)

FION: (keeping an uninterested face) Too bad I am not interested to share it with YOU… Thanks for your egg-tarts. I think I’ll make a leave first. (about to stand up)

JERRY: Wait a minute. (puts his hand on her shoulder to make her sit down again)

FION: (irritated) What do you want?

JERRY: (very seriously) I have something to tell you.

FION: I’m listening.

JERRY: (grave look on face) Ngo ngoi lei! (Cantonese)

FION: (taken aback) WHAT?!

JERRY: I love you.

FION: (can’t believe it) Are you insane? I’ve a boyfriend already. Please give up.

JERRY: So what? I will never give up. You got the right not to love me, but not the right to prevent me from loving you, Fion.

FION: (nothing more to say) Whatever, I have to go now. (stands up and leaves)

JERRY: (stands up too) Fion, hold on… (Fion turns around) I want to tell you. Whether you got a boyfriend and me loving you are two different matters. If the girl I like is not attached but she isn’t serious about me, there is no meaning in it. On the contrary, if a girl really likes me, I won’t care whether she has a boyfriend or not. What is important is that, she is absolutely serious about me and pays attention to me, and then I will be fully contented.

FION: (shocked that a guy can be so blind in love and silly) Will this work? You really don’t mind?

JERRY: (seriously) Yes. And I have the confidence to make you develop a liking for me.

FION: (smiles) Is it?

JERRY: (smiles back) Yes, because you dare not look at my eyes straight.

FION: Does that matters?

JERRY: Yes, you are afraid that if you look into my eyes you would fall for me without knowing it.

FION: (trying to be perfunctory) Eh… I will go back and consider it… Got to go, bye.

JERRY: This is my phone number. (Passes her the sheet of paper) I know you would call me.

FION: Let’s see how. Bye! (walks out)

(at Fion’s and Lik Hang’s place) (Fion sitting on a sofa)

FION: (angry with Lik Hang for not coming home early) That’s too much, where is he when he knows that I am returning today? (calls him) Lik Hang? Where are you?

LIK HANG: Hey, pretty girl, right in front of you (just return from work) Why are you pouting?

FION: (unhappy) Because of you la…

LIK HANG: (ignorant) Me? What has it got to do with me?

FION: You don’t even know it concerns you, that’s why I’m angry.

LIK HANG: Something unpleasant happened during the trip? Who has annoyed you? (found the egg-tarts on the table) Yeee, egg-tarts! Great!

FION: (unhappy) Lik Hang Ah… Can you listen to me seriously? You have not even taken a look at me…

LIK HANG: (still nonchalant) We have been together for about 8 years years already... Would you just be angry if I took one less glance at you?

FION: (angry) Oh, so you mean that since you have ‘looked’ at me for 8 years, it doesn’t matter to take one less glance at me, is it?

LIK HANG: (walks closer) What I mean is that, we will have plenty of time in future for me to look at you la… Ok ok, I miss my computer… (walks into room)

FION: (stops him) I have waited for you all night! Aren’t you supposed to return at seven plus?

LIK HANG: I need to attend a meeting…

FION: You know I am returning today.

LIK HANG: That goes without saying.

FION: Then you should have retuned earlier to have dinner with me!

LIK HANG: (surprised) Huh? You haven’t had your dinner? No wonder you are so pissed off today…

FION: It’s not because I’m hungry that I… (stops her sentence) (sighs) Forget it… Let’s go out for dinner.

LIK HANG: (unwillingly) Emmm, I need to prepare my proposal, it’s urgent…

FION: Fine, after you are done with your proposal please take some time to accompany me…

LIK HANG: (laughs) You think I will fly out of your fingers?

FION: (thinking of Jerry) I’m afraid that I will fly out of yours. I’ll go and have my dinner, and then maybe I’ll have drink first. Do you want any supper?
(walks to the door)

LIK HANG: Ok. Be careful.

FION: Got it.

PS: Jerry has openly declared his love for Fion, but will she accept him? Fion's relationship with Lik Hang seems to be fading, but she don't seems to show interest in Jerry either. Now that she is going to have a drink after dinner, will she meet Jerry again? Stay tuned.
