Fall for You

Chapter 11

Proposal

“Kim, can we please talk?” Gerald finally cornered Kim several days after the incident.

“Gerald, I told you to stay away from me. I don’t have anything to say to you.” Kim replied diffidently.

“Yes, you do. What happened the other night?” Kim just stood in front of him and crossed her arms, not looking at Gerald at all. He sighed, frustrated at Kim’s obstinacy. “Say something, will you?”

“I told you I've nothing to tell you. You're just wasting your time. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a lot of work to do.” Kim walked past Gerald towards her office but he grabbed her arm to stop her. “Let go of me, Gerald.”

“I'm not going to unless you talk to me. I could stand here with you all day if I have to.” Gerald warned.

“Gerald, will you stop being a brat and let me go. You’re hurting me.”

Gerald loosened his grip on her arms a bit. “If you quit being so difficult, maybe we wouldn’t be having this conversation at all.”

“There’s nothing left to say! I told you, I can’t be friends with you so just stay the hell away from me. Is that so hard for you to comprehend?”

“Yes! Kim we were doing just fine. We were making progress. I never thought you’d speak to me again. But all of a sudden, you just…”

Kim interrupted. “It is what’s best for the two of us. We’ve caused each other so much pain because of our relationship and now that we are not together anymore, we can finally cease doing that. Let’s move on with our lives. I'm sorry.”

Gerald stared at her, his eyes silently pleading. Kim tugged her arm from Gerald’s grasp and walked away.

(Flashback)

Kim got inside Gerald’s car. “Sorry I kept you waiting.”

Gerald leaned over and kissed Kim. “It’s okay.” He started the car. “Are you tired? Do you want me to take you home or have dinner first?”

“I think I’ll eat first. I'm starving.”

Gerald drove Kim to a fine-dining restaurant. “Baby what’s the occasion? I noticed you ordered a lot of food.” Kim asked when they were already seated and finished ordering their food.

He held her hand and brought it to his lips. “Happy Anniversary, Baby.”

Kim looked at Gerald apologetically. “I'm so sorry, baby. I’ve been so busy lately I completely forgot. Please don’t be mad at me.”

“No. I figured you will forget about this so I took care of everything.” He gazed at Kim lovingly.

She sighed. “Have I told you lately how much I love you?” Kim looked intently at Gerald.

Gerald smiled. “Lately, you haven’t. You should probably make it up to me and show me later just how much.” he beamed mischievously.

“I think I just might.” She laughed. “But for now, let me say this. I love you.”

“Now and forever, baby.”

Their dinner was served and they began eating. They were talking animatedly about how their day went, their plans in the future, and all other stuff that came to mind. Gerald offered a toast for their fourth year anniversary and for the coming years to come for them. At this point, Kim sensed that Gerald shifted into a more serious tone. “Baby, are you okay?”

“Kim, I need to ask you something. I’ve been thinking about this for a really long time and I think it’s about time we do it.” Kim looked at him intriguingly. “Let’s move in together.”

It took a few moments of silence for Kim before Gerald’s proposition sunk in. He looked at her nervously, fidgeting with his utensils.

“Look, you don’t have to answer right now. If you like to think it over for a few days, I can wait. I just thought of the idea since we practically live together anyway.”

“Don’t you think that it’s too soon?” Kim asked reluctantly.

“Baby, we have been together for four years now. That’s more than enough time, I think.”

Kim mulled over the suggestion. She’s very much in love with the man in front of her right now. She knows in her heart that he is the only man she wants to end up with. They have been through some rough patches before but they managed to get past it. Now that he wants to take their relationship to the next level, she wants to be sure that they can handle the trials of living together.

“What are we going to tell our parents?”

“We’ll talk to them about this together. I don’t want to disrespect them especially since they are a vital part of this relationship.”

“Are you sure about this? I mean, us moving in together?”

“Kimmy, being with you is the only thing that I don’t and will never doubt in my life. I understand your apprehensions but I need you to trust our love for each other.”

Kim felt a stab of guilt. “Of course I trust us, baby. I just don’t want to regret this decision we are about to make. It can make or break us.”

“Like I said, you don’t have to decide now. Take as much time as you need.” Gerald assured her. “For now let’s just celebrate, shall we?”

They stayed at the restaurant for a few more hours to continue with their celebration before they went home to her apartment. Kim was true to her promise and showed Gerald just how much she loves him.

They lounged on the bed cuddling, feeling the warmth of each other’s skin against their own. “Happy anniversary.” Kim whispered.

“Are you happy?” Gerald asked. Kim looked up and gazed into his eyes, kissed him and nodded. “Very.” She nestled her head in his chest. Gerald kissed the top of her head. “So am I.”

A few minutes of silence hung upon them, each one lost in their thoughts. Kim broke the stillness as she sat up. “Gerald?”

“Hmm?” he didn’t open her eyes but he can feel that Kim was staring at him.

“I've been thinking about what you said earlier.” His eyes remained closed so she continued. “We should start looking for a bigger apartment if we are going to live together.”

Gerald opened his eyes. Kim was looking down at him as she sat beside him. “Are you serious?”

“To be honest, it scares me. It is a very big responsibility. But I'm willing to take the risk. I love you that much, Gerald. I've always envisioned myself growing old with you. There is no other person in this world that I want to spend forever with except you. I have given you everything that I’ve got, heart, body and soul. So, yes, I am serious. Let’s start living our lives together.”

Gerald sat up and faced Kim. “We’re going to be just fine, Kimmy. We will work together to make this relationship last. I love you.” Their lips met once again with such passion that almost took their breaths away. For the second time that night, Kim and Gerald commemorated their devotion for each other.
