Chapter 14

Happy and Sad

(Flashback)

“Kim? Baby, I'm home!” Gerald dropped his keys on the small table near the door and slumped on the couch, closing his eyes. When he realized it has been quite a while and Kim didn’t respond, he stood up and looked around.

It has become somewhat a ritual to them for Kim to greet him when he turns up. She gets off from work earlier so she goes home ahead of him to cook their dinner so Gerald found it strange that she didn’t welcome him. He checked the kitchen and saw that the table was already set. After removing his shoes and placing it on the shoe rack, he marched towards their room. As soon as he was inside, he heard the shower running. Taking off his clothes as he entered the bathroom, he had a huge grin plastered across his face while slowly opening the shower curtain. Kim gasped as she turned around when she saw Gerald, all naked.

“Gerald! You scared the shit out of me, you dork!” she shrieked, unconsciously trying to cover herself with her hands.

“Sorry baby.” He joined her in the shower. “Why are you going all shy on me, huh?” he pulled Kim’s hands away from her body and leaned over to kiss her. “You’re beautiful.”

She giggled. “What are you doing here?”

“I'm joining my hot girlfriend in the shower.” He started kissing Kim all over her face.

“Well then, I'm glad you did. I need someone to scrub my back.” Kim whispered mischievously.

“I’ll do that but I need you to kiss me first.” without waiting for her to respond, he dipped his head and kissed Kim ardently.

Kim ran her hands on Gerald’s hair as he showered kisses on her neck, shoulders, down to her bosom. He resumed kissing her lips, forcing his tongue inside hers which she bit tenderly, driving him insane. Their kisses switched from tender to rough and back again, as if trying out which one gives each other better pleasure.

Gerald busied himself by caressing Kim’s body with her hands. Kim turned around and he started kissing her back. She grabbed his roaming hands and wrapped it around her waist as she whimpered with Gerald’s kisses throughout her body. He leaned over her shoulders and reached for her lips, kissing it tenderly, notwithstanding the water running down on their faces from the shower.
Turning Kim around to face him, he pushed her gently against the wall and wrapped her legs around his waist. He pushed forward carefully and began his thrust slowly at first then gaining speed after a while. The love and passion that both of them were feeling at that very moment was almost driving them crazy. Both wanted to let the other know the immensity of their feelings for each other.

As they reached zenith, Kim whispered, “I love you very much, baby.” Gerald kissed the crook of Kim’s neck before he let go and Kim stood on her feet. They looked at each other’s eyes before they went into a tight embrace, just letting the water run through their bodies.

“I need to shower, baby.” Kim said.

“We are in the shower, aren’t we?” Gerald asked, puzzled.

“I know that, silly. But I don’t think I can have a proper shower with you kissing me every other second.” Kim pinched Gerald’s cheeks. “Go and dry yourself. I’ll be out in a bit.”

“Just don’t take too long.” Gerald leaned over once more and kissed Kim before stepping out of the shower. “I love you.”

“Your mom called earlier.” Kim casually mentioned to Gerald one night while they were about to sleep.

“Why?” Gerald asked without taking his eyes off the TV. He was watching a basketball game.

“She asked when we are going home to visit. I was actually thinking of going there this weekend so I can visit my dad. My siblings are going home as well. What do you think?”

“What did you tell her?”

“I told her I was going to talk to you about it first. She’s expecting a call from us to confirm.”

Gerald continued to watch the game. “Okay.”

“Okay? We’re going?”

“Yeah, whatever.” He replied distractedly.

She turned her back on him and tried to sleep off her irritation.

Few days later, Gerald found Kim on their room packing.

“What’s up?”

Kim looked up, “We’re going home tomorrow, right?”

“Really? When did we plan this?”

Kim felt a stab of displeasure upon hearing that. “We talked about this Monday night. You said yes.”

“Did I? I can’t remember.”

“Well, if you were paying attention to what I was saying, you would’ve remembered.” Kim glared at Gerald.

“But I made plans with Xian and David this Saturday. I was actually hoping you’d come with us.” Gerald sat on the bed.

“If you don’t want to go, I’ll just drive myself. You can just stay here.”

“Why wouldn’t I want to go with you, Kim? Of course I do. Tell you what; let’s just go next week instead.”

Kim glared at Gerald before zipping up the bag and set it on the floor. “I can manage. I don’t want to ruin your plans.” She said sarcastically and turned to leave.

Gerald caught up to her before she was out of their room. “Wait, wait.” He held her arm to stop her from leaving. “What are you mad at me for?”

“I don’t know, Gerald. Should I be mad at you? Oh, that’s right. I can't be angry at you for not coming with me because you already made plans with your friends. But wait, didn’t I tell you about this as early as Monday? And you made your plans when, yesterday?”

“Baby, I'm so sorry. I really forgot all about it. I’ll call the guys and cancel. I'm going with you.”

“No don’t bother.” She pulled her arm away from his grip. “I changed my mind; I'm driving home tonight instead. I want to spend more time with my family. Don’t worry I will visit your mom.”

“Kim, please. I'm really sorry.”

She stood there not looking at Gerald. “I’ll just cook dinner before I go. This won’t take long.”

“But I can't let you go alone at this time. We’ll go together tomorrow, I promise.”

“Which part of ‘I want to go alone’ can't you understand?”

“Fine! You want to go without me, go! I don’t understand why you are being so difficult. I said I'm sorry and I'm even willing to cancel my plans just to go with you. But you just have to be stubborn about it, huh?”

Kim was almost in tears. “I have all the right to be upset, Gerald! This is not the first time this has happened. I have supported your passion for basketball because I know how much you love the game. But am I supposed to be happy whenever you pay no attention to me whenever you watch or play?”

“This is ridiculous. Are you jealous of basketball?” he asked accusingly.

“What?! No!” Kim retorted. “You know what, this conversation is going nowhere. You can go cook dinner for yourself. I'm leaving.”

She grabbed her bag and stormed out of the apartment. Gerald just stood there and watched her leave.
