Chapter 29

Already Missing You

“Kim, what are you doing here?” Gerald asked a smiling Kim when he opened the door.

“Good morning to you too, baby.” She leaned to give him a kiss and entered his apartment towards his kitchen. “I came to deliver your breakfast. Sit down and eat.”

Still confused, Gerald closed the door and sat on the dining table. “Why? I mean, I love you for doing this but this is not normal.”

“Well, I'm feeling a little weird today so let’s leave normal for now.” She started pouring milk on Gerald’s glass.

“Hold on.” He held Kim’s hand and pulled her towards him. “Will you slow down, baby? What’s going on?”

She looked at him for a little while before sitting down on the chair beside him. “Baby, I realized it’s just a few more days before you leave for Cebu so I decided to make the most out of the remaining days that we can spend together. I mean, who knows when we will see each other again. It could be weeks or even months!”

Gerald couldn’t help himself from laughing. “Kim, are you feeling sick?”

“Gerald, this is not funny. I’m freaking out! I mean, I thought I was okay with you leaving but now I realized it’s going to be tough without you.”

“I know this is not funny but I thought we already talked about this. We agreed that we’re going to make us work even though I'm in Cebu, right? Why the sudden change of heart?”

“No, I didn’t change my mind. It’s just that – I don’t know what came into me this morning when I woke up. I just felt that I had to do something before you leave next week.”

“How about marrying me?”

Kim did a double take and stared at Gerald as if she’s seeing him for the first time.

“Easy my Kimmy. I was just kidding. You should see the look on your pretty face right now.” He kissed her hand. “How about just spending time together? I've been meaning to ask you and I know this might not suit very well with our decision to take things one day at a time but I was thinking we could move in together until I leave for Cebu. Just so we can maximize our remaining days together.”

“I thought about that too. However, I was worried that it might do us more harm than good if we do that.”

“How so?”

“Baby, it will just make things a lot more difficult for us when its time for you to leave, don’t you think?”

“Maybe you’re right. But I'm willing to take that risk.” Gerald sighed.

Kim leaned on Gerald’s shoulder and intertwined their hands. “So do I.”

“Is that a yes?” He felt Kim nodding against his shoulder. He lifted Kim’s head and kissed her gently. “Thank you. I promise I will make time for you. If I have to fly back to Manila every weekend, I will.”

“I already miss you and you haven’t even left!” Kim exclaimed.

“Trust me, I know exactly how you feel baby.” He pulled her closer to him. “So what do you think of that breakfast that you brought? Think we can eat now?” Gerald said, laughing.

Kim playfully slapped Gerald’s arm. “Sorry I got so emotional.”

“No, I was actually relieved to know that you feel that way. I was beginning to think you are not going to miss me at all.”

“That’s not even remotely possible, baby.”

“I know. You have a weird way of showing it this morning but that’s why I love you.” Gerald smiled. “I'm starving, come on let’s eat.”
