as he napped on the couch of the Super Junior apartment.
"Boh?! What? What? What's wrong?!" He said, getting up
quickly, looking confused. Yuri chuckled a little.
"Oppa, nothing's wrong. But let's go to the beach!"
She said excitedly. "The beach? Now?" He said.
Yuri nodded. "Please oppa please?" She asked.
"Oh, ah rah suh. Kaja." (alright, let's go) He said. They
left the Super junior apartment, and drove to the beach.
The ride to the beach was fairly quiet, until Kyuhyun
turned on the radio. Then he turned back to the steering
wheel. Yuri took side glances at him occasionally. She
noticed he had a very focused expression when he drove.
A few seconds later, Kyuhyun said. "Are you looking
at me?" He asked. Yuri looked straight ahead. "No, oppa.
why would you think that?" She said innocently.
He shrugged but then said. "Hey, wanna hear a joke?"
He asked her. Yuri nodded. "Okay, a termite walks into
a bar and sits down and says, "Say, is this bar tender?"
He said. "Huh?" Yuri said, confused. "You know how
there's bartenders at bars?" He asked. She nodded.
"Well, in this case the termite meant, is the wooden
bar tender? You know since it's a termite and eats wood?"
He explained. "Oh." Yuri said understanding. They soon
arrived at the beach. They hoped out of the Jeep, and took
their things and walked across the boardwalk, down to
the shore. There weren't too many people around, just a
few little kids to the far left, trying to build sand
castles, a few elderly people power walking across
the sand, and a few surfers out on the water. Kyuhyun
and Yuri found a spot a few feet away from the tide,
in the center of the beach. They laid out some towels
and placed their things down. Kyuhyun sat down while Yuri
stayed standing. She slipped out of her white hoodie
cover up, and wore a green bikini. Kyuhyun's eyes widened
in surprise, but Yuri didn't seem to notice. He noticed
a few of the surfer guys, look at her. Kyuhyun quickly
stood up with one of the extra towels and draped it over
Yuri. "Oppa." She shrugging the towel off again, while he
put it back on her. "Dongseng, what are you wearing?"
He asked. "What? This was the only thing I found in my
closet, my others were in the washer still." She said.
It was true. She was hesitant to wear it at first, but
she knew she shouldn't be so self-conscious around Kyuhyun
anyway. It wasn't like he found her attractive like that.
She had thought. "People are looking at you dongseng. Please
put your cover up back on." He asked. He didn't blame the
people though. Yuri did have a good body, with an s-line
curve when you glanced at her from her side profile. But
he shook his head slightly and sat back down. Yuri sighed
and put her white hoodie cover up back on, but zipped
it only halfway. They sat down in silence for a few
seconds. "Oppa?" Yuri spoke up. He turned to his right
to look at her. "Do you think I'll ever meet the right
guy?" She asked him. He was surprised at her question,
but said. "Sure you will." He said encouragingly, though
he wonderered what guy she was looking for. "What kind
if guy are you looking for?" He asked. Yuri hesitated, but
decided to be very general about it. "Um, nice, tall,
you know, understanding.." She trailed off. "Hmm sounds
pretty good." He said. Yuri nodded. They sat in silence
for a few seconds again. "Who was his ideal girl?" She
thought. "Oppa? How about you?" She asked him. "Hmm, funny
kind, optimistic, you know,.." He trailed off. She nodded.
Yuri stuck her pointer finger in the sand, and drew
a few circles in it. THen she drew a few lines and squares
along with them, until she realized what she was writing,
and her eyes widened. Kyuhyun said, "dongseng, what are
you...?" He asked, starting to peek over at what she
was writing. Yuri panicked and smudged out with the palm
of her hand. "N-Nothing." She said quickly. "Uh, okay.
Wanna go get ice-cream by the boarwalk?" He asked. She
nodded. They picked up their towels, shaking them off
and rolling them up, then placing them in the bags.
Then they started up the walkway to get back on
the boardwalk. The trail going up, was a little sandy,
and slippery. Yuri slipped, but Kyuhyun grabbed her
by the wrist, to steady her. "Woah." He said, helping
her stand upright again. "Thanks oppa." She said, slightly
embarrassed. "Hey, be careful, or better yet, hold my hand
okay?" He said. "What?" She said, turning slightly pink.
"Just till we get up to the boardwalk, so you won't fall."
He explained. "Oh, okay." She said, and took his hand.
They continued the walk up the boardwalk. She liked the
way it felt, with her hand, being enclosed by his. There
was a slight roughness to his palm, that was common among
guys, but also a warmth, and she felt an assurance in his
grasp also. He noticed how soft her hand was, and how
cool it was compared to the temperature of his own. He
liked being there like that, guiding her. They finally
got up to the boardwalk, and walked a few steps, still
holding hands, being that they got used to it. After
a few seconds they realized this and both became
embarrassed and let go. "Sorry." They both said.
"So, um ice cream right?" Kyuhyun spoke up. Yuri nodded
and they walked along the boarwalk to the icecream shop.
As they walked, they both noticed how empty it felt, their
hands, as the air ran through the spaces of their fingers.
They were both a little sad about it, but said nothing.
Soon they arrived at the ice cream shop. Kyuhyun opened
the door and let Yuri walk in first, and he followed.
It was cold inside, compared to the warm atmosphere
outside. There were a few people already lined up. Yuri
and Kyuhyun lined up behind the rest of the people. Soon
it was their turn to order. "I'll have a scoop of vanilla
in a cone please." Yuri ordered. "I'll have a scoop of
chocolate in a cup please." Kyuhyun ordered. The worker
nodded and scooped the ice cream for them, he handed them
their icecream, and they moved over to the cash register.
Yuri rummaged through her bag for her wallet, with one
hand while she held her ice cream cone in the other.
When she looked up again, Kyuhyun was handing over money
to the cashier. "Oppa, you don't have to pay for me."
She said. "It's okay." He said. "No really, I'm sure my
wallet is in here somewhere." She said, rummaging
through her bag, but Kyuhyun insisted. And she finally
relented and let him pay. The cashier handed him a receipt.
Yuri asked how much it was. "$2.56." He said. Yuri thought
for a moment. "Wait. That should be $2.46." She said and
told the cashier. The cashier rechecked his calculations
and apologized and gave Kyuhyun his change. "Wow. I would've
never caught that." Kyuhyun said. "Well, it could happen
to anyone, but I wish you'd have let me pay for my cone
oppa." She said. "I told you, I don't mind." He said again.
Yuri was about to say something again, when she felt
someone tug on the sleeve of her hoodie. She looked down
and saw a little girl. "Unni, just let him pay. They say
when they do that they like you." The little girl said in
a loud whisper. Yuri blushed slightly, but thanked the
little girl. The little girl nodded and skipped back to
her family. Kyuhyun had heard and laughed. "Yeah, listen
to her." He said. Yuri didn't know if he was joking or not,
but decided to play along. "Ah rah suh oppa." She said,
smiling and they left the ice cream shop. They sat down
on the outside tables of the shop, with a white metal
railing surrounding the perimeter of the shop, the shop
was atop a small cliff, that over looked horizon, while
the waves crashed in the ocean below them. They finished
their ice cream and watched as the sun set. Yuri looked
out at the sight, entranced as the sky turned to an orangey
color, contrasting with the blue of the sky. She didn't
hear the moving of a chair, and was surprised when she felt
an arm wrap around her shoulder, she turned to her left and
saw Kyuhyun looking out at the sunset. Her eyes widened,
and she wondered what was going on. "O--oppa?" She said.
"Hmm?" He said, still looking at the sunset. "Why are you.."
She trailed off. "I just thought you might be cold." He
said. Was that the lamest excuse ever? Oh well, she'd take
it. She leaned her head on his shoulder as they watched
the sun continue to set. Kyuhyun smiled. Then Yuri
sat upright again. "But seriously though oppa, why are
acting like this?" She asked, curious. He turned to look
at her. He smiled and got up from the chair, and went
around the table and pulled something out from his
bag, a box. He came back, sitting down and said.
"Okay, why did the guy put his arm around the girl's
shoulder?" He asked. "I don't know, why?" She asked him.
He paused for a second. "Because he wanted the girl
to be his girlfriend." He said. Yuri inhaled sharply at
this, in shock. "What?" She said to him. He smiled and
opened the box, where a jeweled hello kitty necklace
lay. "OMO..its.." She said, remembering.
[Flashback]
Kyuhyun and Yuri were walking around the mall, when Yuri
stopped at a window display. She glanced at a hello kitty
necklaced that sparkled in the display light. "Wow." She
said, admiring the jeweled piece. "You like it huh?" He
said. Yuri nodded. "I'm sure some guy will get it for
you someday. If he really likes you." Kyuhyun said.
Yuri nodded and they continued walking around the mall.
[end of flashback]
She was still shocked and somewhat speechless. So
Kyuhyun started to speak. "Yuri ah, I guess you're still
in shock right now, since I guess I wasn't very obvious
with my feelings before, but I decided to take this chance,
because I saw what you wrote in the sand, and it gave me
some confidence. [Note: she had written in the sand, before
she quickly tried to erase it, "can i love you?"]
Yuri blushed slightly, knowing he had seen what she'd
written earlier. "Oh, you did?" She said. He nodded and
continued speaking. "I bought this necklace, the day you
commented on it at the mall. But I wasn't sure if I should
give it to you or not. But I want to give it to you now.
Yuri ah, I like you, more than just a dongseng. Will you
be my girlfriend?" He asked her. Yuri was touched by his
words. She nodded, and then said. "yes." He smiled and
moved forward and embraced her warmly. She felt so happy.
Then he let go and helped her put on the necklace. Yuri
held the hello kitty pendant in her hand, then looked up
at him again. She smiled at him and he smiled back, warmly.
"So, I guess you didn't mind holding my hand then?" She
joked. He laughed and helped her stand up. Then he leaned
in towards her face slowly. Yuri closed her eyes, wrapping
her arms around his neck. She soon felt his lips meet her
own, softly, as the sun set in the background, with
the sound of the ocean waves crashing against the rocks and
their hearts beating happily.
