Chapter 17

winter-choi eunmi & hankyung

"Ani. Ani. Ani. again." EunMi said to Junsu as they

sat on the steps outside of the high school playing rock

paper scissors, to decide who would have to tell

TaeYeon that there was no winter formal that year.

"Rock paper, scissors." "Rock, paper, scissors,"

"Rock, paper scissors." "Aha! I win!" Junsu said

proudly. "Awww, oppa, how can I tell TaeYeon unni?

She'll be devastated." EunMi said. Junsu smiled at

her dramaticness. "Tough luck dongseng." He said, patting

her on the head, which she seriously dislikes. She pouted.

"Oppa!" She said. Junsu sighed. "Fine. I'll tell her."

He said. "Phew thanks oppa!" EunMi said and hugged

him. Junsu hugged her back and said "Mhmm." Then she

let go. Hankyung, who was walking along the sidewalk

towards school saw this. He was surprised, and then turned

away from them, starting to walk into the school.

EunMi saw him walking and called to him. "Hankyung oppa!"

She called. Hankyung looked up and waved, no smile,

then headed into the school building. EunMi looked

at Junsu, confused. Junsu just shrugged. They walked

into the school building after him. Junsu went to go

find TaeYeon to tell her the bad news about the formal,

while EunMi went to find her other friends and head to

class. She found HyeRin and JiJae and they walked to class

together. Soon first through fourth period classes

went by fast. AP Calculus, Physics, AP Literature, French

II, and then finally EunMi went to the girl's locker

room, changing into her gymanstics suit. She headed out

to the floor mat spread out on the gym as she waited

her turn. Soon it was her turn. "I'm Just a Girl" by

No Doubt. played, and she immediately launched into

a series of forward somersaults, then when she reached

the edge of the floormat on the other side, she reversed

her stance, and did backward somersaults, her legs

slicing throught the air quickly and almost effortlessly,

she was still bothered by Hankyung's expression that

morning, and put all her strength into her routine.

She lunged backwards powerfully each time, she did

a somersault. Finally she reached her starting point

on the floor mat, and she was standing in an upright,

position, with her hands straight up in the air. Her

coach and fellow team mates clapped. She gasped slightly

at the exertion she had from her routine. She looked

to her right and saw Hankyung looking at her. He didn't

even blink, then looked away, walking out the gym

to basketball practice. EunMi was really confused.

"Why is oppa like that today?" She wondered. She shrugged

and tried to go back to her floor routines.

EunMi's class ended and she went back into the girl's

locker room and changed. She would shower when she got

home. She was walking home alone, when the image of

Hankyung's expressionless face, came into her mind.

She shook her head, and continued her walk home, looking

around at the frost on the plants, the snow on the ground.

[Flashback]

EunMi balled up snow from the ground, and threw it

at Hankyung, hitting him square in the back. He turned

around surprised. EunMi just laughed. "Yah!" He jokingly

yelled and ran after her with a snowball of his own, while

EunMi tried to run away laughing. Hankyung caught up

with her, grabbing her by the arm, and smashed the

snowball into her hair. "Ahh, oppa!" She said, a little

sad that her hair was now wet. "Woops." He said, laughing

and ran away while she attacked him with another snowball,

this went on for about half an hour until they grew tired

and called a truce. Then Hankyung walked her home,

and they said their goodbyes.

[End of Flashback]

EunMi sighed. "Oppa, weh guhrae?" She said softly into

the wind, then soon arrived at her house. She went to

the front closet and removed her scarf, hat and coat,

and boots, then she went up the stairs, to her room.

She opened the door of her room, and layed down on

her bed.

A few hours later, she woke up after having fallen

asleep. EunMi rubbed her eyes, stretching and got up

off of her bed. She decided she needed to go for a

coffee run. She went downstairs and put on her coat,

scarf, gloves and boots again. Then she headed out

the door, walking down to the local coffee shop.

"Um, I'd like a tall mocha latte." She ordered then

she gave the cashier her money and the cashier handed her

the receipt and her change. EunMi went to sit down at one

of the empty tables when she saw Hankyung at another

table. "Hankyung oppa!" EunMi said cheerfully, as she

walked to his table. Hankyung looked at her surprised.

"hey." He said. "Oppa, is something wrong?" She asked

him. "No. Shouldn't you be with Junsu or something?"

He said. EunMi was surprised at his cold tone, and at

his question. "Boh? Junsu oppa? No why?" She said.

"Just forget it." He said. "But is there something

wrong oppa? Did I do something?" She asked him.

"No. What? Does everyone have to be all happy go

lucky all the time?!" He snapped. EunMi looked at

him, wide eyed and somewhat hurt. "No. But. I was

just concerned." She said softly then her tone changed.

"But, I guess you're fine right? Why should I care right?"

She said coldly, her eyes starting to water, she picked

up her order from the counter, and left the coffee

shop abruptly, the door swinging behind her.

Hankyung sighed, placing his hands on his head

his elbows on the table. "Mianhae." He said softly.

EunMi walked home, sadly. Why was Hankyung so cruel

all of a sudden, a few tears had fallen down her face

she wiped them away. Then she headed back into the house,

hoping no one would ask questions. EunMi stayed in her

room, the rest of the night, when her mom called her

down for her dinner, she said she wasn't hungry.

EunMi changed out of her outside clothes, taking a

warm shower first, then slipped into her sleeping

clothes, she soon fell asleep.

A few hours later at around 12 midnight, she woke

to the sound of tapping on her window. She ignored it

at first, but after the third time, she got annoyed and

got up to see what it was. She sleepily went over to

her window and opened the curtains slightly, she looked

down and thought she was hallucinating. EunMi rubbed her

eyes and looked out the window again. Hankyung was throwing

rocks at her window. But why? She thought. She opened her

window, and called down to him in a loud whisper.

"What?" She said coldly, cause she was still mad at him.

"Can you come down for a minute?" He asked her.

"Can it wait? I was sleeping!" She called back to him.

"Please?" He begged. "Aish. Fine." She said. She

put on her jacket, and slipped on slippers and quietly

went down the stairs, and out the front door.

She saw Hankyung standing there, waiting at the front

porch. "What?"She said again. He motioned for her to sit

down. She sat down on the front porch swing, while he

stayed standing. "EunMi, I'm really sorry I was

so harsh this afternoon, it's just that, well I was

just upset about you and Junsu. And, I just wanted to

tell you that, I.. I like you. And I'm thinking

that you probably can't accept my feelings, but I

just had to tell you." Hankyung confessed. EunMi looked

at him surprised. "You like me? Wait. Upset about Junsu?

Why? Oppa. Junsu and I aren't together. We're just friends.

He likes TaeYeon unnie. And I don't like him, I like..

you." She confessed. "What? Oh. Really?" Hankyung

said going from surprised, to realization, to disbelief

again. EunMi nodded. Hankyung smiled and walked up the

steps of the porch and sat down beside her, then hugged

her tightly. EunMi hugged him back warmly, happily.

After a few seconds they let go. Hankyung then looked

into her eyes, pushing a strand of hair away from her

face, then leaned in, kissing her softly. EunMi closed

her eyes as their lips met, and her heart beat rapidly.
