bleachers, drawing in her sketchbook. "Hey, dongseng."
ChangMin said, smiling as he sat down next to her.
She looked up from her sketchbook, smiling back, slightly.
"Oh, hi oppa." She said. "New drawing?" He asked.
She nodded. He took something out of his jacket pocket,
and handed her a wrapped hershey bar. "I got it from
the vending machine on my way over." He explained.
"Oh, thanks oppa." She said, taking the candy bar.
"Sure." He said as he watched her continue to draw.
"How come you don't get BoRa unni anything?" She asked
him. "Cause you can't get a rice cake out of the
vending machine." He explained. She looked back up
from her sketchbook. "Unni likes rice cakes?" She
asked. He nodded. "Okay then." MinJa said, and went
back to her drawing. "Yeah. A little weird I know."
ChangMin said. MinJa nodded while adding the final
touches to her drawing. When she was done she held
up the drawing for him to see. "Wow. That's really
good dongseng." He said. She thanked him. "Oppa!"
A squeaky voice called to ChangMin. Both he and Minja
looked up to see BoRa, who was done with her cheerleading
practice. He waved to her. She walked over to them as
Minja groaned inside. "Minja, how are you?" BoRa said.
"I'm doing good unni, how about you?" MinJa asked.
"Good. Oppa we should go now." BoRa said, linking her
arm through ChangMin's who stood up abruptly and
stepped off of the bleachers. "Oh uh yeah." He said.
He waved goodbye to MinJa while BoRa flapped her fingertips
behind her, waving her version of goodbye to MinJa.
Minja waved back, really to ChangMin, but BoRa didn't
notice. MinJa got up from the bleachers, closing her
sketchbook. And then started walking to her class.
She went through her Calculus, Literature, Civics,
and Choir class, with what seemed to go by very slowly
for her. She slung her messenger bag over her shoulder,
walking down the hallway, and pushing through the front
doors of the school. She walked down the steps and
across the sidewalk. As she was about to turn the corner
to start walking to her house, she saw ChangMin and BoRa
arguing in the parking lot. She quickly, backed up,
and turned the corner, taking the long way home. She
didn't want them to see that she had seen them fighting.
She got home safely, but was very tired. She opened
the front door of her house, climbed up the stairs
and took a short nap, and then did her homework, ate
dinner, took a shower, brushed her teeth, and washed
her face, then went to bed.
The following morning, although somewhat reluctanly,
MinJa came back to sit down on the bleachers. This time
she was listening to her ipod, and singing along, softly.
"she wears high heels
i wear sneakers
she's cheer captain
i'm on the bleachers
dreaming about the day
when you wake up and find
that what you're looking for
has been here the whole time
if you could see
that i'm the one
who understands you
been here all along
so why can't you
see you belong with me
standing by and
waiting at your backdoor
all this time
how could you not know
you belong with me" You Belong With Me-Taylor Swift
Minja looked down as she sang, looking for the
next song she would listen to on the screen of her ipod,
so she didn't see ChangMin walking across the gym floor
towards her. BoRa saw this, and hurriedly ran towards
ChangMin, grabbing him and kissing him suddenly.
ChangMin pushed her away from him. MinJa saw none of this
but looked up when she heard the superintendent scold,
"Mr. Shim, Ms. Hwang, I do not allow people to make out
in this gym. Or any place at this school for any matter!."
Mr. Lee said. Minja was surprised, and saddened at this
announcement. She knew ChangMin had a girlfriend, but the
thought that they couldn't keep their hands off of each
other, really pained her. She saw ChangMin looking
at her, and she looked away, getting up from the bleachers,
forgetting her coat, and walked out of the gym, into
the cold of the outside. She walked along the pavement,
crossing her arms to try and keep herself warm. She heard
the doors of the gym swing open with a bang. She didn't
bother to turn around, and continued walking.
"Minja!" ChangMin called after her, walking quickly.
MinJa sighed and turned around. He brought her jacket
out of the gym handing it to her. She thanked him.
"About BoRa.." He started to say. "It's okay oppa,
I understand, I shouldn't have freaked out about you
guys like that. Uh, I mean..." She stammered, realizing
she let her feelings slip. "No. BoRa we, we broke up."
He said. MinJa looked back up at him. "What?" She said.
"We were having too many issues. She said, that I liked
someone else, and she was right." He said. "What?"
MinJa said again. ChangMin liked someone else?
"She was right, Minja. I heard your song. I was walking
to talk to you, when BoRa just came and kissed me.
I pushed her away. I like you." He confessed. "Oh, uh
me?" She said, in surprise. He nodded. She hadn't put
on her jacket, so he helped her put it on. "I..I..
this all so overwhelming. I like you too oppa." She said
softly, looking up at him. He smiled, and pulled her closer
to him. She helped him dust off the snow that had settled
on his hair, and he did the same. They stood there for
a moment, arms around each other, and he leaned down,
slowly. MinJa closed her eyees and soon his lips met
her own, softly, as more snow continued to fall down
on them.
