and an assortment of pastries for this event and all the
bakeries that are in our budget are booked!" HeeJin
said frantically to her friend, JiMin. She nodded,
understanding the situation. "It's okay Unni, we'll
figure something out." JiMin said reassuringly. But
she wasn't convinced. She frantically started dialing
up numbers on her cellphone, going in and out of the
office of their event planning company.
"Hello? Yes I know it's short notice but. Oh, I see.
Thank you bye." She said, then hung up and started punching
in another humber. "Hello? Yes this is Kim HeeJin of
Cater to You..oh really? Alright Thank you. bye." She
said with a sigh and hung up. "No luck?" JiMin asked her
as she sat at her assistant's desk. HeeJin shook her head.
She had graduated top of her class at Kyeongin University
and at 21, was the youngest person to ever be in charge
of a well known company in her city. "Well, we could
always make them ourselves?" JiMin suggested.
"As much as we like to bake, it won't look exactly
that professional." HeeJin reminded her. "Right." JiMin
said, seeing her point. "I'm going to go to the bakeries
in person and see if I can do anything." She told JiMin.
She nodded and Heejin walked out of their office and
drove to all the bakeries within their city but had
little luck in finding any baker within their budget. She
sighed and got back into her car. She was just starting
the engine, when her cellphone rang. She picked it up.
"Hello? Oh, SungMin oppa. Yeah. I just can't find a
a bakery that's within our budget. Oh, no that's okay.
Really. Okay bye." She said and hung up. He had offered
to cater for the event, "Lee's Sweet Delicacies" But
she knew his family's prices were way out of her budget.
She politetly declined and drove back to the office unsure
of what to do. When she went back inside the office,
pulling open the glass door, she saw loads of nicely
decorated boxes, on her office desk. "What's this?"
She asked JiMin. "Someone dropped it off, saying you
ordered it." JiMin told her. "Did they charge us?"
She asked her. JiMin shook her head. "They said someone
had already paid for it." She told her. "Who?" HeeJin
asked her glancing at the richly decorated pastries in
the boxes. "Uh, Lee something." She told her. HeeJin's
eyes widened. "I'll be back." She told her and started to
leave the office again. "Unni, we have a meeting at.."
JiMin trailed off. "I KNOW I'LL BE BACK!" HeeJin called
to her. She got into her car and drove downtown to
the Lee Bakery. It was 9 at night, and she knew they
closed at 8. But she saw the light was still on, she
walked inside and the little bell rang as she entered
the bakery. SungMin was the counter, still rolling out
some dough, his workspace covered in flour. "Sorry we're..
clo-..sed." He said, when he looked up and saw her.
"Hey." He said. HeeJin walked up to the counter where he
was working. "Oppa, how could you just give us all those
pastries? I really don't know how I'm going to pay you back
and plus your family is probably wondering why they
lost so much money with all the orders you gave me and
then you still have to consider how...." She trailed off
as he came around the counter and leaned in, pressing his
lips against her own softly for a few seconds. They
broke apart, and she looked up at him, wide eyed.
"It's okay. My family's not losing money. I paid for it
with my own money. And you don't owe me. I wanted to do
it. I like you HeeJin ah." He said. She blinked up at him.
"You do?" She said, surprised. He smiled and gave her
a small nod. "I.. I like you too oppa." She said.
He smiled and hugged her warmly, as the scent of sugar
cookies was in the air.
