sleeping clothes, and slipping under her bed covers,
she couldn't help but think of the young man who
was very considerate of her. The following morning,
she got ready to go out. She opened her apartment, door,
closing it, when a voice called to her. "Vanessa." A
familiar male voice said to her. She froze, but then
slowly turned around, to face Jeongkyu. "Jeongkyu.
What are you doing here?" She asked him coldly.
"I just wanted to say sorry about what happened yesterday."
He told her. She looked at him in disbelief, the
emotional pain, starting to throb in her heart again.
"Look. I hope you're not asking me to get back together
with you. I won't do that. And please understand that I
need time before I can see you again, without thinking
how you hurt me." She told him. He nodded. "I'm sorry."
He said softly this time, his head hung low, and turned
around, getting into the elevator. She gave him a curt
nod. The elevator doors closed, and as soon as it
started to lower, to the first floor, Vanessa leaned
against the wall in front of her apartment door,
and sank down, crying. She told herself to get a grip.
She took out some tissues from her bag and wiped
her eyes, then took the elevator down to the first
floor. Then she left the apartment complex, going to
the local noraebang, and got a karaoke room for
herself. She went inside and started singing a
empowering song, telling herself it would
get better in time.

Then she sang a few more songs, until she
was calm, then left eh noraebang, and drove back
to her apartment complex, after buying some Chinese
takeout. She went to take the elevator, and was surprised
to see Yunho there again. "Yunho shi." She said.
"Hey, how are you doing?" He asked her. "A little better.
What are you doing here?" She asked him. "Oh, I'm
actually staying with my cousin here for a few weeks."
He explained. "Oh, are you on vacation?" Sje asked him.
He nodded. "Yeah, I'm on break, from my singing for
awhile." He told her. "Oh, you sing?" She asked him.
He nodded. "Oh, I was just at the noraebang this morning."
She told him. "Really? We should duet some time." He
told her. She smiled slightly nodding. But a part of
her was wondering. "You just broke up with your
boyfriend. Shouldn't you be a bit more guarded?" She
asked herself. But she just had a feeling that he
was different. So it surprised her when she
said, what she said next. "Hey, have you eaten lunch
yet?" She asked him. "No. I think I'm just going to
cook up whatever my cousin has in the fridge, since he's
out for the day." He told her. "Oh, well if you want,
I just bought takeout. We could have lunch at my place."
She asked him. "Oh, if you don't mind. I'd really feel bad
to take up space though." He said. She shook her head.
"It's okay." She told him. "Well, sure. I'd be glad to
eat with you." He told her. She smiled and they
went up to her apartment. She opened the door, and
he helped her bring in the other bag of takeout,
as they walked into her kitchen, setting it out on
the counter. They sat down on the stools, and brought
out all the food on plates, then ate, making conversation.
"So what else do you like to do besides singing?" He
asked her, as he took a bite of orange chicken from his
plate. "Mm, I like dancing also, and uh.." She trailed off.
"Really? You like dancing? Me too." He said excitedly,
and couldn't help but laugh at his enthusiasm. He smiled
back, and then her landline phone was ringing, and she
let the answering machine take it. "Vanessa. It's me.
Look. I know you said you need time but I just think.."
Jeonkyu spoke. Vanessa froze and then smiled apologetically
at Yunho, then got up from the stool, and hung up the
landline phone. "He's really persistent isn't he?" Yunho
asked her. She nodded with a sigh, as she picked up
her chopsticks again, eating more chow mein.
"If he really didn't want to lose you, he shouldn't
have cheated on you." Yunhoh said. She nodded, a
sad smile on her face. "Yeah. But it's not a
complete loss. I should have ended it with him a long
time ago. There were so many signs. I was blind. But
he's just that kind of a guy, that doesn't want to
admit. He can't have everything. He really wanted
me to stay with him after what happened? Why would I
degrade myself like that?" She said, more to herself,
than to Yunho. "Hey, it's okay. I'm sure he regrets
losing you. But you deserve better." Yunho said to her,
gently. She glanced at him, a small smile on her face.
"Thanks." She told him. He nodded and they got up and
threw away the take out boxes. He thanked her for
having him over and she nodded with a small smile.
She walked him to her door, and just as he was leaving
he turned around and said. "Hey Vanessa." He said.
"Yeah?" She said to him. "I'm sure you'll find someone
better." He said sincerely, and gave her a smile that
made her heart flutter, then left. She closed the door
behind him, taken aback, but then shook her head.
Weeks passed by, and she was slowly recovering.
Jeonkyu finally stopped calling. She felt happy again,
especially that Yunho would come over now and then,
and they would talk, or go to the noraebang, or even
go to the dance studio together to give each other
pointers on choreography. He was a really good friend
to her. And she knew that she was falling for him.
But was afraid of telling him, fearing that history
might repeat itself. She was in the kitchen, putting
groceries away, when her cellphone on the counter,
started to vibrate, and then it beeped. She stopped
what she was doing, and went over to her phone, sliding
it open. It was a text from Yunho.

Hey V, wanna hang out today? Let me know.

She smiled and texted him back, asking him when.
He said in an hour. She agreed and he told her he'd
pick her up at the front of the building. She finished
putting away groceries, when she glanced at the calendar
on her fridge. It was his last day of staying with his
cousin. She felt slightly sad at this. Maybe it was his
way of saying goodbye to her before he left.
She took a shower, and got ready. She wore her usual
skinny jeans, and a white knit hoodie, since it was
a little chilly outside, and wore her hair down. She
looked at the time, and then grabbed her bag, taking
the elevator down to the first floor. Yunho had just pulled
up to the front of the sidewalk. She smiled at him and
got into the right passenger seat. "Hey. You look
nice." He told her. "Thanks. You look good too. Hey,
isn't that the shirt I told you to get?" She asked
him. He smiled nodding. Then they took off.
They first went to eat kalbi, rice, tofu soup, and
kimchi at Tofu House restsaurant. Then they walked around
the city's shopping center, looking around. "Oh, oppa,
look." Vanessa said as they saw people having a dance
off in the middle of the shopping center. "They're pretty
good." He said. "You should go." She told him. He smiled.
"I don't know." He said. "Aw, come on oppa. You can
do it." She said to him. "Okay." He said, then she
waited for him, as he walked over. A guy with
a cap turned backwards nodded, and started
the music. "Freeze" by T-Pain started to play. Yunho
started to dance, and motioned for Vanessa to join
him. She shook her head, slightly embarrased, so
he pulled her out from the crowd and she went
to middle with him, and they both danced well
together, as the crowd cheered and clapped.
The song ended and they both bowed, then left.
"Oppa, why did you drag me in there with you?"
She asked him, as they walked out of the shopping
center. "What? You did really well." He told her.
She shrugged. They went back to his car, and got in,
she thought he was driving her back home, but he
stopped up at a cliff, and parked the car. They got out,
and there was a picnic table there as well. They walked
over to it, and sat down on it, and she was amazed that
they could see practically all of Seoul, and the sun
was starting to set. "Wow." She said. "I come here
some times, to think." He told her. She nodded, then
spoke up. "Hey, oppa, isn't today your last day of
vacation?" She asked him. He turned to her. "Yeah."
He said, and she thought she could detect a hint
of sadness in his voice. "Oh, hey look at this."
He told her, as he got up off of the picnic table.
He extended his hand out to her. She took it and he
helped her down, then he led her to the edge of
the cliff, a wooden railing in front of them, and they
looked out at the sky. "What are we supposed to
be looking at?" She asked him.

He pointed up at the sky,
and a small plane flew by, with a banner attached to
it reading VANESSA LEE, WILL YOU BE MY GIRLFRIEND? ♥
It passed by, and Vanessa gasped in surprise. She looked
back at Yunho, who somehow had gone to back to his car
quickly, and came back with a bouquet of roses and
carnations. "O-oppa." She said, in disbelief. He smiled
at her, and started to speak. "Vanessa, I know that
you've been hurt not too long ago, but these past
few weeks, of getting to know you, and spending time
with you, I, I've fallen in love with you. I'm not
100% sure if you'll accept my feelings, but I wanted
to tell you how I felt anyway." He said, then got down
on one knee, extending the bouquet of flowers out to
her, as he closed his eyes, waiting. She was speechless.
But then gently took the flowers from him. "Oppa, I,
I'm in love with you too." She admitted. Yunho opened
his syes and stood back up. "Really?" He said, looking
down at her. "Really." She said with a smile. He smiled
back, embracing her warmly. She felt so happy, and
secure, she felt loved again. He pulled back from their
embrace. She looked up at him, and he slowly leaned in
towards her. She instinctively closed her eyes, as his
face inched closer to hers, until his lips met her own
softly. Heart pounding, she kissed him back, finally
being able to love again.
